Introducing – Yahoo Daily Fantasy Football

Fantasy Football Scout are delighted to announce Yahoo Daily Fantasy Football as our brand new partner game for the 2017/18 season.

While this may be a new game to many of you, Yahoo is, of course, a hugely well-known and trusted name. They were also one of the first to pioneer an online Fantasy Football game, with their season-long game one of the most engaging around.

Now Yahoo have returned with a daily Fantasy sports offering that we will be covering throughout the season.

That also means we will be able to present you with some fantastic offers, including a huge free-to-play half-season tournament with over £40,000 in prizes and perhaps even the chance to win £1 million. No, really. More on that later this week.

Yahoo are also providing a superb introductory offer for our visitors whereby, if you deposit £5, you’ll get a free £50 credited to your account. See the foot of this article for details on how to sign up and get started.

What is Yahoo Daily Fantasy Football?

If you’ve played any daily Fantasy Football or “DFS” games before, you will be instantly familiar with the concept of the Yahoo game.

You have £200 million to build a team of 11 players that you can enter in a variety of contests that are either free to play or have an entry fee with cash prizes on offer.

Each player has a value assigned which changes week-to-week based on their performance and popularity in the previous Gameweek.

The scoring system is more detailed than both Fantasy Premier League and Sky Sports – but that’s a good thing. Based on Opta data, the scoring brings a wider range of players into the mix, including those often-neglected defensive midfielders.

We will have an in-depth article, examining the nuances of the scoring system, very soon.

Yahoo’s contests allow you to tinker with your line-ups right up until kick-off, so you can monitor teamsheets and use the “late swap” feature to swoop for bargains and remove absent players.

Week to week, we will be bringing you our Yahoo Focus articles to help steer the nucleus of your XI for the weekend contests.

Why Should I play?

While so much of the Yahoo game is familiar and easy to grasp, it’s very different in a number of key ways – not least because it is very friendly for new players.

The game operates a “Fair Play” policy, with many of their contests allowing just a single-team entry, while others allow only up to ten teams per user. This levels the playing field and increases the chances that new players can compete for prizes.

There are also “no veterans” or “rookie only” contests which allow you to play and learn the game before taking on experienced managers in bigger contests. However, if you become a seasoned player, you can, of course, take part in contests that allow 50+ teams.

As mentioned, the scoring system is also finely balanced and perfectly suited to our visitors.

We are all familiar with Opta data and, if you’ve got yourself a Fantasy Football scout membership, you already have access to statistics and tools to help you select teams in the Yahoo game. We’re even building custom tables and will be implementing player prices into those tables in the coming weeks.

The Yahoo game is also fully localised for a UK audience. That may sound like a small thing but, with other daily games talking in dollars and asking you to build “rosters”, it’s nonetheless a welcome touch.

The other main reason to play is that the game has a huge range of contests for all players. There are free-to-play games, contests with entry fees as small as 25p right up to £1,000 for the high rollers.

You can register now and compete in the Gameweek 1 £10k contest that offers a £2k top prize for a £5 entry fee.

How Do I Start?

Yahoo’s Gameweek 1 contests are up and running so you can register an account and get started immediately.

As mentioned, if you register and deposit £5 or more, Yahoo will also give you a £50 bonus to be used in-game.

  • Register here
  • Deposit £5 or more and use the code FANTASY50 to claim your £50 credit
  • Choose a contest and start selecting your first Yahoo squad.

Later this week we will bring you news of the huge Fantasy Football Scout Yahoo Cup contest, which is free to play and with £50k in prizes.

Look out for details of that and further articles on the Yahoo Daily Fantasy Football game to come before August 11.

You must be over 18 years of age, resident in the UK, and of legal capacity to register with Yahoo Daily Sports and open an Account. If you sign up, please always play responsibly.

If they are all in your starting XI each week, I guess B, but I wouldn't fee comfortable. 5.0 def or 5.5 mid could outscore Abraham, and would be safer anyway.

      Gros (5.5) > Ritchie / Phillips (6.0)

      Jesus (10.5) > Benteke (8.0)

      Austin (6.5) > Rooney (7.5)]

    Hegazi kompany bailly
    Willian pogba Ali Salah
    Jesus lacazette Abraham

Bench : hart Ritchie lascelles suttner

Looks good. I would get DDG and get rid of Bailly.

Also, will Lacazette start? Giroud been in decent pre season form and with Wenger you never know. He will probably start LAca on the left...

      1. RiskyBusiness
        • 7 Years
        6 years, 9 months ago

And get who instead of bailly? Think hart is cheap route into a half decent defence?

I'm not sure on laca he might play wide left but I think he has more chance of starting central then morata who's the other option at that price, can definitely see morata playing wide agaisnt Burnley

Morata still lacking fitness apparently. Expect him to be eased into it. Stay clear of him for now.

As an Arsenal fan I am tempted on Lacazette but I know Wenger too well.... Let's see what he goes with on Sunday in the Community Shield.

I've already multiple times before that Alexandre Lacazette is essential for many reasons. However people seem to think however that the transfer from ligue 1 to the premier league means that lacazette may struggle to adapt and won't be as prolifc as he was against France's 'weaker teams'.

In this first essay, let's analyse how other players who have taken such a jump have fared in terms of goals

    1) Koscielny - Lorient to Arsenal

    2009/10 - 3 goals (ligue 1)
    2001/11 - 2 goals (Premier League)

As you can see by this stat koscielny only managed one less goal albeit playing 5 less games. Lacazette will be joining the same team Koscielny himself joined meaning we can expect similar results in terms of goals. Lacazette who scored 28 league goals last season may score 25/26 this time round. However he will be playing up front which is certainly advantageous

    2) Cabaye - Lillie to Newcastle united

    2010/11 - 2 goals (ligue 1)
    2011/12 - 4 goals (Premier league)
    2012/13 - 6 goals (Premier league)

As you can see Cabaye who usually struggled for goals doubled his no. of goals after moving to the prem and TRIPLED it the season after. it's unlikely to expect lacazette to score 56 goals but lacazette may achieve 30+ based on this.

    3) Lloris - Lyon to Tottenham Hotspur

    2012/13 - 0 goals (ligue 1)
    2013/14 - 0 goals (Premier league)

With lloris, movement to prem had no impact on number of goals.

Based off this evidence i fully expect Lacazette to match or exceed his 28 goals scored in ligue 1 last season. Any questions?

Is anyone else starting to hate all the forward options under 8.0 (except for Chicharito, whose early fixtures aren't great)?

I'm finding myself either wanting to go 3-5-2 and go with fodder for the third striker, or feeling the need to go up to Benteke/Defoe/Firmino range to feel good about a 3-4-3. I'm currently on the below, but don't feel great about my 3rd and 4th midfielders (aside from Chadli and Ritchie being on pens). Any thoughts?

    Foster - Elliot
    Trippier - Ake - Yoshida - Suttner - Rosenoir
    KDB - Salah - Ritchie - Chadli - Carroll
    Kane - Lukaku - Benteke

Yeah that's my issue but I expect I'll wildcard failt early and I don't think I'll play him too much, I do expect him to shock a few people though, such a talented forward can't wait to see him in the PL

      Chadli to Phillips for me.

Ake could be inspired. I'd rather wait and see before taking a punt though.

Yoshida and the two cheapos equate to a car crash waiting to happening. Soz

Thanks, CD. I'd like to see Phillips get healthy before relying on him. But, when healthy, he's probably more nailed than Chadli; I'll give you that.

Ake might be Daniels instead; Yoshida might be Cedric if he seems ready. And I sort of like Suttner among all of the 4.5 options. Do you see a better one?

I have calculated PPM last year divided by price this year to see where I can find the most value (simple analysis). I included only players that played at least 2000 minutes last year. Players changed position like King is also not included in my analysis.

From my calculations I clearly see the most value in goalkeepers and defenders. The difference between the keepers are quite small compared to the differences between the defenders. The value was bigger in the midfield compared to the forwards (in general). Therefore you could argue for a 5-4-1, but for flexibility I have chosen 4-4-2.

Based on my calculations I tried to find the team that gives me the highest PPM (last year) based on this year's prices in a 4-4-2-formation (bench: 4.0, 4.0, 4.5, 4.5). I haven't used any specific excel-formula to maximize the PPM, but tried many different combinations.

This is the team I came up with (PPM in () )

    Grant (3.8)
    Alonso (5.7)/Coleman (5.1)/Bertrand (4.4)/Daniels (3.9)
    Alli (6.1)/Eriksen (6.1)/Mane (5.8)/Phillips (4.3)
    Kane (C) (2*7.5)/Llorente (4.4)

    Sum: 64.6

My conclusions based on my findings:
    - No need to invest in premium keepers
    - Premium defenders is good value
    - The last year's Spurs and Liverpool-midfielders still good value

Sorry for long post, but maybe Interesting for some of you 🙂

I'll tell you now, no one will ever win this game with a 5-4-1.

Played for over 10 years and the midfielders are always the strongest point scorers across the board. 3-5-2 is, for me, the best option.

I wouldn't choose 5-4-1, but definetely not 3-5-2 based on what I found from last year. 4 at the back for sure based on the clearly better PPM for defenders than midlfielders in the 5.5-6.5-bracket.

So you'll have five 9.0+ mil midfielders this season? You can't possibly know for sure, regardless of experience or history, if the highest scoring players (let's say they are mids) are going to be the best value players this year. And if they are, then the higher cost means you can't have 5 anyway.

In a 5-4-1 there are 4 midfielders. That's potentially 4 premium mids. Are you really arguing that the only way to win is to have 5 premium mids? Let us see your team!? 😀

          browse his OR history,

          then look at your own.

there's a chance he is speaking some wisdom

Um. I think you're trying a bit hard with that one. I finished over 1 million places ahead of him in the last two seasons.

But that doesn't matter. There are plenty of factors that looking at someone's OR doesn't take into account. One of those factors is the new information from the new season, including player prices and the points that they will score, which is one of my points.

The other point is that Mr Davis seems to be claiming that five 9.0+m midfielders is essential for winning FPL 2017/18. It would be nice if you could address my points, because I'm now more confuse that there are two people who believe this! I feel like you just didn't like my tone, or my username, or something, and you wanted to make a jibe or 'school' me.

            Any clarification is welcome 🙂

There's a reason Ben Crabtree won last season playing 343.

That's true. This analysis is only based on players that played above 2000 minutes and PPM is just on average. During the season it's you could of course get more points by stifting back and forth between players in form and not in form and you can obtain better team with hugger value. This team is 100.0 and the numbers is just on average. IMO this could be a good benchmark for what kind of team to start with.

But Ben Cratree didn't win this new season playing 343 already did he? 😮 Besides Ben Crabtree is only one of 100,000+ players who finished above me hahaha

Is this a reasonable 4-4-2 outfit?

    De Gea
    Kolasinac, Trippier, Cedric, Alonso
    Zaha, Chadli, Eriksen, De Bruyne
    Lukaku, Austin

    Elliott, Gayle, Carroll, Long

    £1.5 itb

Looks good. Why not use the 1.5 in the bank to get Willian over Chadli though? Although, West Brom's fixtures do look kinder.

      It's a strong team.

      But I would go 3-5-2...

De Gea (5.5) > Pickford (5.0) - he'll get more saves for Everton. (+2m ITB)
Cedric (5.0) > Mee (4.5) - only need 3 strong defenders at the most (+2.5m ITB)
Chadli (6.0 > Phillips (6.0) - strongest West Brom midfielder
      Gayle (6.5) > Abraham (5.5) - save yourself 1m (+3.5m ITB)
Carroll (4.5) > Ritchie (6.0) - on penalties, set pieces, great fixtures (+2m ITB)
Austin (6.0) > Benteke (8.0) - open games. Huddersfield first team to be promoted with negative goal difference. Benteke scored 7 in 6 games against Liverpool.

How's this looking, think I'm finally settling on a team.

    Forster
    Ake / Bailly / Trippier
Fraser / De Bruyne / Willian / Salah
    Lukaku / Lacazette / Benteke

    Elliot / Suttner / 4.5 / Carroll

    Any advice appreciated. Thanks

Nice... Although I'd rather wait and see on Lacazette before taking the plunge.

      Lacazette (10.5) > Abraham (5.5) - bench abraham
      Carroll (4.5) > Alli (9.5) - play 3-5-2
      Bailly (6.0) > Kompany (6.0) - more of a goal threat

Thanks. Was swaying on Kompany, but the Man U fixtures look really enticing. Will mull that one over.

Lacazette is probably heart over head, plus I'm one of those guys who think Spurs might struggle a little this year.

Planning an early WC, so maybe Laca can wait til then.

Not done any research so feel free to disagree with this, but did lukaku score a lot of foals late last season when it didn't necessarily matter?
If United are 2-0 up wit 10 to go, is it not possible he will be taken off to save him with the huge number of games they have to play next season? Could massively dent his point haul

Same. DDG for two days, but at the beginning, it makes more fiscal sense to go with a 4.5m keeper.
