The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 5

This Sergio Aguero chap looks a good option.

Twenty goals in 25 starts last season; he’s scored 24 and 26 goals in his two previous campaigns.

Priced at 11.4, cheaper than he’s ever been – he looks useful.

Of course, we all know this, it’s just that today’s devastating hat-trick at Watford has provided us with an almighty jolt and left us questioning our logic.

Seven days ago I wondered whether we will ever need look beyond the Harry Kane/Romelu Lukaku combination up front.

In true “knee-jerk” fashion, a week later, I’m now left asking if we can afford to overlook Aguero.

We can’t beat ourselves up; our reservations to this point were understandable.

Pep Guardiola’s plans with the Argentine, working in tandem with his apparent darling Gabriel Jesus, were shrouded in uncertainty.

Aguero has started up with Jesus in four of five Premier League matches. However, he was dropped to the bench at Bournemouth – a decision that appeared to confirm our fears that we could not rely on Aguero and Pep.

But today’s treble took Aguero to four goals since the south coast “rest” and the impact has been instant.

Over 74,000 have already moved to acquire Aguero, with Lukaku the major fall guy. The Manchester United striker has lost over 16,000 owners to his City rival before he’s even kicked a ball in Gameweek 5.

Some are clearly convinced, and the rest of us are left wondering if we should follow suit. City’s fixtures are more than enticing, and the prospect of watching Aguero run riot clutching FPL armbands is a petrifying thought.

Indeed, the only consolation today was that Aguero’s ownership remains relatively modest. He was part of just 502,000 squads ahead of Gameweek 5, and captained by 39% of those managers.

His 20-points will still make waves across mini-leagues and ranks, but it’s surely the least impactful hat-trick of Aguero’s illustrious FPL career.

But the haul hit even harder as a result of Kane’s bitterly disappointing blank.

Almost a million (20.1%) of FPL managers trusted Kane with the armband and were left frustrated by Spurs’ inability to breakdown a stubborn Swansea at Wembley.

Everything – the form, fixture and the statistics – all pointed to Kane being the Gameweek’s must-own, high-scoring option.

But there’s that logic again.

The same thought patterns that can perhaps persuade us that David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne or Gabriel Silva can cover Aguero’s future tallies.

Maybe, like a good few struggling Premier League managers, we just need to go back to basics.

Selecting Aguero in your Fantasy Football team used to be our rule number one. It was our basic instinct.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

So, looks like Dunk is falling tonight. Would you

    A) Go Dawson to Kolasinac, play Dunk at home to Newcastle, take his drop like a man

    B) Go Dunk to Kolasinac, Play Lowe away to Burnley, lose out on the nice Dunk fixture

Would want to keep Dawson over Dunk long term, don't think theres a huge gap in CS potential between the 2 fixtures, and really want to avoid price drops since team value is slow to build. That being said I'm keeping Suttner and playing him likely, but I've got other fires to put out

Best transfers to do this week? Have 2FT and 0.1ITB

    A) Richarlison + Suttner + Lossl (have Lowe as well) > Atsu B.Davies Elliot
    B) Richarlison + Chicharito + Firmino > Atsu A.Ayew Aguero
    C) Richarlison + Chicharito + Lossl > Atsu + Vardy + Elliot

Is it time to wave goodbye to Lukaku?

    Southampton A
    Palace H
    Liverpool A
    Huddersfield A
    Spurs H
    Chelsea A

Out of those games, how many would you Captain him in and how many of those do you think United will run riot in?

Are we approaching a perioid like last year where it was obvious to lose Ibra but held out of ownership fear?

In four gameweeks he's double digited once and got the same score as a clean sheet in two other games, is it time for a 'time out?

After the Palace game would seem like the ideal time to lose him as he's a very dangerous captain option for that game. Aiming for a wildcard sometime around then anyway so.....

They also have Shaktar and Chelsea immediately after Palace. Dangerous game in terms of potential rotation, whereas Lukaku is nailed on when he turns up.

Fair point but United are also in the CL which Jose will also rotate for, not saying Lukaku will miss mins but the impact of rotation will have an impact on United.

Spurs today looked leggy, United and Lukaku will also have that to deal with now.

Kane has much nicer fixtures than Lukaku in the next 3.

        West Ham A
        Huddersfield A
        Bournmouth H

Would be hard to sell him for those for Southampton, Palace and Liverpool.

          Form over fixtures, right?

Huddersfield been solid at home. Liverpool leaky.

Kane has blanked four in five and if Lukaku isn't deliering to his price tag, then I just wonder why Kane is so safe in evyerone's teams.

            • 6 Years

You say Kane has blanked four in five, I say Kane has scored three in his last three, I guess stats can be bent to suit whichever side of the fence you sit on.

United and Liverpool games are not the most exciting, Jose will set them up not to lose which lessens the attacking threat.

Fell asleep watching that game last year.

Let me just clarify that I definately see the merit in Kane, no doubt, but there's hardly any good arguments as to why Lukaku is the more natural fall guy other than simply fixtures.

My comeback to your statement would be that Lukaku har scored in five of his six competetive games this season, with a goal tally of six, including two in his last two.

True, he's also flopped as captain in two out of his four weeks.

6 points x 2 in easy fixtures doesn't represent a win, granted Kane blanked today but I'd be more confident captaining Kane in the next three than I would Lukaku which swings it back his way.

I think it's because Kane always looks like he's unlucky to get a haul, while Lukaku looks lucky to get the one goal he gets.

Poor Lukaku, not only does he have to score, he has to ensure Kane scores and Aguero stays quiet.

FPL wise, yes. In real footie terms, not so much. However, we all know what he's got in the locker

On the plus side you've kinda committed to losing him so unless he does something spectacular that's one key decision made. Ish.

Atsu to RLC or Alonso to Mendy to generate 0.5m for a Firmino to Kun move.

Any response would be greatly appreciated.

    How to get Kun?

    A) Kane to Kun
    B) Kaku to Kun
    C) Alonso and Firmino to Mbemba and Kun (for free)

    Cheers

I know it's to early. Just want to know what is the best option if no injury within this week:

    a. Chicharito Mkhi >> Aguero RLC
    b. Chicharito Lukaku >> Aguero Rooney/Welbeck
    c. Chicharito Lukaku Mkhi >> Jesus AlexisSanchez Ayew (-4)

    Elliot
    Bavies Jones Hegazi Cedric
    Eriksen Salah Mkhi
    Kane Lukaku Chicharito

    (Foster Mbemba Chalobah TCarrol)

B .. not to sure about welbz game time though..and if Rooney can live Up to his pricetag...

Maybe go option D) Lukaku + Cedric --> Aguero + Mustafi/Monreal/Otamendi/Williams/Keane? Or Hegazi --> Naughton as the 2nd transfer.. Hegazi is not nailed imo
