Dugout Discussion – Brighton vs Newcastle

Sunday’s solitary fixture gets underway at 4pm as promoted pair Brighton and Hove Albion and Newcastle United square up at the Amex Stadium.

With many now filling their forward lines with premium frontman, we get the chance to run the rule over a trio of budget midfielders today.

The Seagulls’ Pascal Gross has played a part in all four of his side’s goals so far, serving up two goals and a pair of assists in his last two outings.

He was the second top transfer target for Gameweek 6, with over 381,000 transfers in.

For the Magpies, Matt Ritchie has bagged four assists in his previous three, while Christian Atsu’s goal and assist over his last two starts has also turned heads.

Indeed Ritchie and Atsu, along with team-mates Jamaal Lascelles and Chancel Mbemba have been subject to heavy investment over the last week, with a combined 783,000+ transfers in.

Newcastle number one Rob Elliot is the most owned player for Sunday’s clash, sitting in 23.7% of squads after conceding just once in his previous three. Yet he is the most benched player in the Gameweek, with over 808,000 naming him among their subs.

    Should be GTG for GW7?

    Foster
    Davies/Jones/Cedric
    Salah/Miki/Ritchie/TC
    Kane/Kaku(c)/Kun

    Elliot/Chalobah/Mbemba/Lowe

and before GW8 I plan to do, with 2FT, Kaku Miki to Morata Silva?

I'd just do Mkhi to Silva. No need to get rid of Lukaku.

He keeps scoring so confidence must be high. I'd keep him till his streak is over.

I'm doing the same. So many options, Lukaku isn't a must have with those fixtures. Morata or Aguero, I haven't decided yet.

City total goals 21, Kun scored 6
United total goals 17, Kaku scored 6
Chelsea total goals 12, Morata scored 6
Spurs total goals 10, Kane scored 4

    it means
    Kun 29%
    Kaku 35%
    Morata 50%
    Kane 40%

I don't count assist because for me assist is not suitable for top scorer. For those non-Kun-owner or who is planning to bring in Kun, keep your team without Kun. Kaku/Morata/Kane are more important to their team and less rotation risk.

    thoughts welcome...

You can't just dismiss assists when they are worth almost the same points as goals.

      But interesting analysis.

This is fpl, literally the only thing I care about is points.

If Aguero got 2 assists every single game and therefore between 8-11 points, are you telling me you wouldn't want him because he's not scoring goals?

Does the percentage matter? If City score 5 in each match, does it matter if Aguero is only getting two goals a match? They are by far the most attacking team and as long as they're doing the business why does Aguero's total involvement matter?

Kun has more assist just because City won like a beast, Kun only made assist when City won against 5-0 or more, we can't count assist from premium striker

He put one on a plate for Sane who hit the keeper, could have had 1 goal and 2 assists at the weekend which is what captains should produce.

You can't dismiss assists, assist potential is just as important as goals for premium players because they contribute to multiple scoring gameweeks.

What kind of logic is this? goals for strikers are 4, an assist is 3, picking a striker who does both rather than one is the most important factor so your results are wrong, Aguero should be the number one pick.

People forget how Kun sunk many a FPL team last season so he is certainly not an essential.

Plus you have the Peprot to contend with which is the biggest issue.

    7. justmatt
      • 8 Years

Seems flawed when you dismiss assists - this is FPL it's all about the points.

Kun has been involved in 9 of Cities 21 goals (43%), where as Kane has only been involved in 4 out of 10 (40%).

Not including assists makes this approach unreliable and skews it.

This approach punished any player that gives back to the team with assists as well as scores.

              6 years, 7 months ago

I'm hoping for both, points are what count. 3 or 4, doesn't matter, just get me the points.

Also Kun has scored more than kane, but Spurs have scored less than half of City's total so the idea of Kane being a better pick due to scoring a higher percentage of a lesser number is also flawed.

Thanks. Makes Morata a great choice, since you can captain him if he keeps up the goal involvement.

Goal involvement seems to be underrated here as a predictor for captaincy.

Hmmm...tricky one. What this week showed was the weakness of going top heavy with defenders esp when the forwards rack up the points.

I would boot Kola as he is the most expensive. I am beginning to think this might be the season of the uber defender when we need all our cash upfront.

I think so too that he will be the one who should make way. But Arsenal defense looked solid in decent games with 3 big CBs.

I would hold for now but fear there isn't much difference in price between by the time their fixtures are turning again.
