Technical Area – The Man City Midfield

Through the first two months of the season, no side has scored more frequently than Manchester City.

In their second season under Pep Guardiola’s tutelage, City have averaged more than three goals per match to open this campaign and already look to be mounting the strongest title challenge on show.

With Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus as options in attack, we are blessed with two obvious routes to investment. However, reading Pep Guardiola’s intentions with the pair remains a test, made all the more difficult by the news of Aguero’s return to light training following his rib injury.

Just as Gabriel Jesus seemed cemented in the central attacking role, suddenly Aguero’s return seems more imminent, casting further doubts on the likely minutes of the pair over forthcoming Gameweeks.

So, instead, our attentions are drawn to City’s midfield in an effort to achieve coverage of this potent attacking unit while we wait for the striker situation to resolve.

In this article, we’ll be running the rule over three mid-priced Manchester City midfield options – David Silva, Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling – alongside the more expensive Kevin De Bruyne, in an effort to ascertain where best to seek value from this side over the coming Gameweeks.

Options were limited I guess, so they just went for a manager who has a decent record in MLS

Needed to look far more creatively than that. There's plenty of diamonds of managers in the rough. If you just want to think of MLS managers, Oscar Pareja and Patrick Viera both had the pedigree to be a worthy hire

imo it doesnt make sense to hold a player "since he is only gonna miss a game" what are the chances we have seen that he would miss another one when/if the injury doesnt heal as fast as expected? lots.

i think its better to push him out and do the needful. at least you wont be playing the waiting game. and start lookin for the best replacement you are most comfortable with.

Ok so I did Mhiki to Sterling as I was priced out of doing Firmino to Vardy. I can now afford to do that move, do I do it for a hit or play this team?

I decided to use my WC and have arrived at the following team:

    Mbemba/Ward/Azpilicueta/Naughton/Davies
    Hazard/Sterline/Sane/Carrol/Doucpure

    My team:
    Jones-Dawson-Naughton-Hunemeier-Bertrand
    Salah-Carrol-Brady-Ramsey-D.Silva
    Kane-Chicharito-Lukaku

I'm thinking of Dawson + Salah + Lukaku to Otamendi + Hazard + Jesus...
If I don't do Lukaku to Jesus, I would only have 5.4mil for a defender,
if not the above 3 changes, then who to bring in for Dawson?

Feels like a perfect time to gamble on Hazard V a Liverpool mid, easily reversed if it goes wrong.

Holds some of that Lukaku fund for GW12 too.

Was tempted by Sanchez but feel he's going to slump now, stuck at Arsenal, stuck on the wing, no World Cup to look forward to, just killing time.

        Hazard could be the one.

So Jesus just played 190min in South America for Brazil. Assuming he starts vs Napoli, that would make it 5 games in 17 days if he plays vs Stoke too.

Wouldn't surprise me if he is either subbed after 60min or benched with Sterling playing upfront this weekend.

Anyone think Jose night be so annoyed with Belgium injuring Fellaini and risking Lukaku that he might rest him at the weekend to prove a point?

Imagine he'll go there to kill the game so could save Lukaku for the last 20 and to nick it and prove his point, they also have Europe and Lukaku is carrying an injury.

Jose not one to be scared of making a big decision when it's needed, can't remember what game it was but he left Ibra out of a big game last season, imagine he's really annoyed with Belgium and Lukaku right now.

Lukaku plays for Belgium. They have every right to play their players. Ridiculous scenario if a player refused to play for his country because he wants to make sure he doesn't risk injury for his club. I would boot him off the national team if he tried that.

Clubs pressure players to try this shit. That's why national teams get them checked by their own doctors if they don't believe it. What you are saying is lukaku, having been cleared by doctors as fit to play and already with the national team should have refused to line up, and because he didn't Jose would be right to teach him a lesson.

      No.

Saving Lukaku for the last 20 to nick it? That's a ridiculous risk.

I think he'll try to kill the game only after they have like a 2 goal lead. A draw isn't a good result for United in this game. It's not like last season where they went into the game as underdogs. They are title favorites along with City and need to beat Liverpool who are certainly a level below them right now.

He could play with no striker & bring in Bernardo Silva, shifting KDB further forwards also, which would be another boost for both Sterling & Sane owners, something like:

          ------------back 4--------
          -------Fernandinho-----
          ---- BSilva---KDB-------
