The Gameweek Team News

Tammy Abraham is rated 50:50 for Swansea City’s home clash against Bournemouth. Eric Bailly and Phil Jones are both ruled out for Manchester United. West Ham pair Marko Arnautovic and Andre Ayew are in contention for the visit of Leicester, while Patrick van Aanholt is back in the frame for Palace’s Selhurst Park meeting with Stoke City.

Here’s our summary of the key team news so far, with an array of big press conferences still to come this afternoon.

Jose Mourinho has been the latest Premier League manager to reveal his hand this morning, confirming that both Phil Jones and Eric Bailly miss the Old Trafford encounter with Brighton. Chris Smalling therefore looks assured of his start, with Marcos Rojo perhaps deployed alongside him having impressed on his return to the starting XI on Wednesday. Mourinho also revealed that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will again feature from the bench, while Paul Pogba will start but “cannot go more than 65 to 70 minutes” before being withdrawn.

Steve Sidwell remains the only absentee for the visitors.

Marko Arnautovic and Andre Ayew are both available for West Ham United’s home meeting with Leicester City tonight, but Michail Antonio and James Collins remain out of the picture, despite a return to training this week. Manager David Moyes is preserving that pair for a possible return at Everton in midweek.

Meanwhile, Foxes boss Claude Puel has no fresh injury concerns ahead of the trip to the London Stadium, with Robert Huth and Matty James the only absentees.

Patrick van Aanholt has recovered from a hamstring injury, and is available for Crystal Palace’s home encounter against Stoke City. But Lee Chung-yong and Connor Wickham remain out.

Jack Butland and Geoff Cameron are still sidelined for the Potters, while Mark Hughes revealed Xherdan Shaqiri is “okay”, having only been substituted during Monday night’s 2-2 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion as a precaution due some tightness he felt before the match.

Rafa Benitez will be without the suspended Isaac Hayden for the visit of Watford to St James’ Park but could risk Mikel Merino as his replacement. The Spaniard is back in training after a back problem, though he could be protected for the trip to West Brom on Tuesday. Left-back Paul Dummett is another who is close to a return and could feature against the Hornets.

For Watford, Kiko Femenia has trained fully this week following the leg problem that forced him over during the 2-0 win over West Ham United, and is available. Troy Deeney serves outs his three-match ban at St James’ Park.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has no fresh injury concerns ahead of the home clash against West Bromwich Albion. Erik Lamela is close to a first-team return, and could feature among the substitutes.

Baggies interim boss Gary Megson has also escaped any added injuries ahead of the trip to Wembley, with James Morrison and Nacer Chadli his only absentees.

Swansea City head coach Paul Clement has revealed that Tammy Abraham has been unable to train prior to today due to a back injury, and is rated as “50/50” for the home fixture with Bournemouth. Wilfried Bony is set to earn a recall should the Chelsea loanee miss out.

Junior Stanislas and Jermain Defoe will both miss the trip to south Wales, while Simon Francis is suspended.

Southampton have their own suspension to contend with, as Oriol Romeu misses the home meeting against Everton. Mario Lemina is back in training and will face a late assessment with Mauricio Pellegrino hopeful that he can step in.

Meanwhile Toffees duo Tom Davies and Oumar Niasse miss Sunday’s trip to St Mary’s with their own bans. Niasse begins a two-match suspension having been charged with the “Successful Deception of a Match Official” following the penalty award at Palace in Gameweek 12.

Huddersfield Town head coach David Wagner welcomes back Christopher Schindler for the visit of Manchester City to the John Smith’s Stadium, following the defender’s one-match ban. Jonathan Hogg is also available again after missing the 4-0 defeat to Bournemouth due to the birth of his son.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tonight’s 7.00pm deadline, which includes our predicted line-ups. Keep an eye on our official Twitter account for breaking news – as the day unfolds, we will issue updates from the remaining press conferences and refresh our Team News tab accordingly.

Ahhh, can't decide what to do here:

    A) Aguero and Carroll -> Wilson and Sane
    B) Aguero and Carroll -> Niasse / DCL and Sane

If I went B, I could afford Jones -> Alonso, or Silva -> Hazard next week.

I like A, but B could be great if you have other options while waiting on Niasse.

Can't see him being pushed back to face Watford with Arsenal at the weekend. Jose will want him him for both of the big but only 1 may he possible.

Thoughts on this WC team would be appreciated:

    DDG (Elliot)
    Daniels Davies Mustafi (Moreno Mee)
    Salah Sane Pogba Richarlison (RLC)
    Kane Morata Wilson

In 2 weeks Davies/Wilson > Azpi/Niasse (for free) for the Chelsea run.

    Final thoughts?!

I think it's not good planning on wildcard if you need to have a plan to oust defenders just after wildcard. Get Azpi in now if you want him. Not sure what you want to hear as you ask this so many times.

    1. MANGE TOUT RODNEY

I still have him. In fact I've had him from GW1! He will be rotated with Rose. So Rose may start midweek.

If you have decent options coming off the bench then it's not a big worry.

I have pressing options elsewhere so have left him in for now.

I have him but I'm concerned about his minutes with Rose back and Aurier playing there before. I have more pressing matters to deal with but will be looking to move him on in the next few weeks. The fixtures are great but you can't predict how many games he will play compared to an Azpi or Valencia etc.

I'll preface by saying that I'm not some Pogba/Utd fanboy, the opposite even tbh. Rich has 4 bad attacking fixtures coming up, Pogba has at least 2 very good ones. Pog makes Utd tick and when they do well, they can score 3 or 4. It only makes sense for me to make the transfer pre-Brighton, to make sure I get those 2 good Utd fixtures, or not at all. Rich out is the only way for me to get Pogba in; I don't wanna lose Salah/Sane/Sterling, and my other mid is a 4.5.

My tactic was keep the armband on him and his explosions would make up for his blanks. What you don't want to do is captain for blanks and loose nerve for the hauls. So I'm captaining again. If he blanks again, then he isn't worth keeping at 12.8, because the hauls won't make up for the blanks

      1. Cok3y5murf
        • 7 Years
        6 years, 5 months ago

Even if he hauls this weekend, I doubt it'll make up for past blanks because every week he blanked, another player like Salah, Lukaku, Morata or Sane hauled. And many people captained them. And those people would have breezed past you.

    5. My Name Is Prince
      • 11 Years
      6 years, 5 months ago

This! So simplified logic... I'm keeping but not captaining and it's totally logical, Kane is human after all, and he might not be there yet so to speak, but he will score a brace soon and if it comes this week I'd rather have him for a brace even if I don't cap him, and if the brace comes a bit later, then I already have him whereas if you sell you suddenly have the opposite dilemma, should I buy? It's ridiculous to sell only because you're not capping him!!

I'm just laughing at this logic because it's ridiculous. People could be keeping him for various reasons. Maybe they have other fires to put out in their teams this week, maybe they want to captain him next week, or maybe they think they have a better captain option for this week.

Only tough fixtures are united, spurs and chelsea up untill new years.. I can see him easily on the scoresheet in all other games, given of course that brighton scores

    Bailly replacement:
    A) Kola
    B) Bellerin
    C) Monreal
    D) Otamendi (have Walker)
    E) Kompany (have Walker)

Aguero (c) Sane (vc) - that way you've got them both covered.

That's my setup at the moment, worry is an Aguero cameo

That's true, but I fancy Aguero to start this week. If he starts on the bench he'd probably only come on if ManC were struggling, and I can't see that happening.

Sane. However, it is tempting to captain Kun. I also own. I don’t think it is so obvious that he won’t play. That conclusion is way too categorical for 5 days rest and unpredictable Pep.

    fabianski

    naughton - valencia - vvd

    rich - salah - choupo - dele

    vardy - luk(C) - aguero

    elliot - rlc - mee - simpson

1 FT and 0.3 in the bank .

would you save FT , kinda scared with not much if any city cover or would you

    aguero + choupo -> firmino + sane (-4) .

guradiola is gona give me a heart attack

Big ask but can you fix this midfield? (Was playing a 5-2-3 but need to sort it out)

    Fabianski,Elliot

    Kola, Maguire, Daniels, Naughton, Otamendi,

    Ramsey, Fernandinho, Salah, RLC, King

    Morata, Kane, Kaku

    0.0ITB, 1FT
    Happy to take a hit.

I think you're okay this week. I'd roll transfer then next week downgrade Kane or Kaku based on one more weeks info.

Use money to get in Sane, Pogba, Richarlison, Gross, Hazard, etc.

I'd downgrade Kane or Kaku to Niasse or similar price

Needs Sane and Richarlison, for Ramsey & Fernandinho...
only way is dropping one of your big hitters up front...for Wilson/Niasse

      Cost a -8

    Hi folks,

Can you please rate my wildcard team:

    Speroni

    Kenny - Daniels - Smalling

    Salah - Sterling - Pogba - Hazard

    Wilson - kane - Morata

    Bench: Elliot RLC Klavan Tarkowski

I m only concerned about my defence which is obviously cheap as hell. Is klavan nailed ? and Kenny ?

    Thanks !

    1 FT and 1.0 ITB

    A) Sterling to Sane
    B) Jones to Daniels
    C) Save and use 2 FT to bring in Hazard or Alonso next week at the expense of Lukaku
