Scout Notes – Vardy Subdued In Stalemate

Friday’s early kick-off is a predictably sparse affair for Fantasy managers, with modest returns on offer as West Ham and Leicester City play out a 1-1 stalemate.

Vardy stifled once again

Jamie Vardy went into the London Stadium encounter as the top owned asset on show, part of 14% of squads. He had produced just a single return – a goal in Gameweek 10 against Everton – in his previous six outings.

Tonight’s assist for Marc Albrighton’s opener provided little compensation for his owners. The striker mustered just one shot on goal and has now totalled only five efforts from his last four appearances since the arrival of manager Claude Puel.

Those statistics will do little to slow further sales, with Vardy’s ownership dropping by 118,000+ over those previous four Gameweeks. More than 59,000 moved Vardy on ahead of tonight’s deadline.

Riyad Mahrez also disappointed. The Algerian had produced two goals and three assists from his previous five outings. While he sparkled in the early stages, he cut a disgruntled figure when withdrawn on 69 minutes by Puel.

It perhaps gives an indication of Demarai Gray‘s progress under Puel that he remained on the pitch while Mahrez was hooked. Gray was eventually replaced in stoppage time. The 5.3 option has played 90 minutes in three of his four matches under Puel, while Mahrez has been replaced early in three of four.

At the back, it’s now just one clean sheet in six for Leicester, with Spurs their next opponent in Gameweek 14 on Tuesday.

Lanzini the stand-out Hammer

Manuel Lanzini was perhaps the most notable Fantasy performer for the home side.

He created five chances on the night and, along with left-back Aaron Cresswell, monopolised many of West Ham’s set-pieces.

Lanzini provided the crossed corner for Cheikhou Kouyate’s equaliser, having previously supplied a string of free-kick deliveries.

The Argentine picked up two bonus points along with his assist to score eight on the night.

However, priced at 6.8, Fantasy interest in the playmaker is likely to remain muted unless the Hammers can be transformed as an attacking force.

Interestingly, David Moyes deployed 4.4 defender Arthur Masuaku on the left-flank in front of Cresswell. But for all his pace and industry, the Frenchman’s final ball lacked quality.

With Michail Antonio back in training, Moyes will surely shake up his attack to accommodate the powerful winger, and Masuaku is the most likely to make way. That change could even be in place for the Gameweek 14 trip to Everton.

Marko Arnautovic is an early doubt for that encounter. He suffered a knock to his knee and was finally withdrawn on 69 minutes. Moyes brought us this on the setback post-match…

“He complained before, if you noticed he got a kick – or an injury – just before half time, and I was annoyed he kept limping around. You need a foghorn here on the touchline to hear anybody, but i wanted him to keep going and he did. He seemed okay at half time but I think at the end it’s just caught up on him, hopefully it’s not too severe I think he should be okay.”

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Even Silva could get a rest with Gundogan to be fair. And Ota has had a rest but if Pep wants to give him another he has Kompany and Mangala currently fit. I have Ota but I wouldn't be shocked beyond belief if he misses one game

Not sure any team will offer it over Christmas tbh. As long as you have a squad of 15, having one or 2 rotation risks is very manageable.

Sané is my only risk but he's more nailed than Aguerro Sterling and Jesus so I'll take my chances. Ward 1st off the bench next week away to Bournemouth (or Duffy CPL) aint so bad

Thanks this caught me out yestday...I thought Abraham 6.0 wud be a straight swap for Wilson at 6.0

But because he had only risen 0.2 that gave me an actual 0.1 gain so really I was having a Sale Value of 5.9 on Abraham which priced me out against Wilson at 6.0

Whenever the Son plays, he cannibalize on Kane's chances. To say that he reduces Kane's probability to score is good way to put it. The guy is a striker and he seldom provides. Good for me. Sane cap here.

Depends on the ownership and captaincy stats within whichever league you deem to Be important. Overall you are better off if he scores, however within a mini-league you have an improved position if he does n"t. That is of course assuming that the player you captain as an alternative scores you some points.

Surprised to see that I moved up in most of my leagues despite not having any players playing yet. What's that about?

GW14 captain isn't an easy one
Will have to see how GW13 plays out first but Morata (SWA) or Sane (SOT) or Kane (lei) is a tough call.

Agree. Don't forget Salah and throw Hazard into the mix and you've got my conundrum.

Be Kane Morata or Haz for me, see how today goes

You need to consider who will be rested IMO. Swansea at home is a good time to give Hazard or Morata a rest IMO.

Liverpool and Chelsea can't afford to rest players in the CL as they have not won their groups and they won't all play 5 games in 2 weeks. Different to Arsenal, Spurs, City and Utd. All of them are cruising in Europe. Could see them putting out second teams in the CL / EL and therefore giving big players a week rest between GW15 and GW16.

Leaving out rotation risk lads, who's the best Man City FPL asset - still Aguero rather than Sane?

    1. Jebiga
      • 12 Years

sane was better asset last year than aguero, this season you dont need to ask

    2. diesel001
      • 7 Years

Sane. Cheaper, gets more points per goal and CS points.

I have Jesus though - think he is a quality player who could eclipse Aguero's goal scoring record if he hangs around. He goes unnoticed because he is not Aguero or KDB.

Is it really worth having Aguero or Jesus given that neither are nailed on and starting births are a toss of a coin, especially when you got options that are nailed on like Kane Morata Lukaku for similar price. Maybe our best option for attacking City cover would be a Midfield double up of De Bruyne and Sane?

Personally think worth going heavy in midfield. Salah, Hazard, Sane, Richarlison, RLC. Get Morata up front and then one other (probably Kane / Lukaku)

Yep if Aguero plays tomorrow I'll get rid, if not he should play on Wed so I'll get rid for next weekend then.

    Spurs v West Brom
3 min. Kane hits the post
17 min Kane header cleared of the line
36 min Kane shot saved by the keeper.
    Second half
Spurs one up.Erik goal . No assist
    72 min West Brom equaliser.
Streaker runs onto the pitch to delay match by 5 mins.(couldn't catch him)
84 min Kane booked for kicking ball away in frustration.
    96 +7 min . West Brom winner

    I know I shouldn't have captained him.

    Davies jones* ward mee naughton
    Salah sane richarlison RLC tcarroll*
    Kane* aguero* morata

Depending on what happens in this gw matches I'll be making 1 of these 2 moves

    A. Aguero Carroll Jones to niasse hazard otamendi -4

    B. Kane Carroll Jones to niasse hazard azpi -4

Thoughts on both.. I know most will prefer A
