Dugout Discussion – Wednesday

The penultimate fixture of the packed festive schedule gets underway at 7.45pm as Arsenal and Chelsea go head-to-head at the Emirates.

For the hosts, Alexis Sanchez has upped his output in recent weeks – after a slow start to the season, last term’s top scoring player in Fantasy Premier League has delivered points in seven of his last 10 league appearances.

That form suggest that the Chilean is likely to pose the main danger to a defence that’s conceded just four times in their previous 11.

Nonetheless, it’s Alexandre Lacazette who is the Gunners’ most captained player for Gameweek 22, handed the armband by 2.02%.

The Frenchman has been a consistent source of points at home, producing a goal or assist in seven of his 10 appearances, but he’s struggled for a cutting edge of late and failed to find the net since Gameweek 15.

A return to form could reignite interest in Lacazette ahead of four kind fixtures (bou CRY swa EVE) in as many Gameweeks.

Despite a run of two goals in the last nine Gameweeks, Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata (3.7%) is the top armband pick for this fixture.

That lack of form means that the Spaniard and team-mate Eden Hazard were among the top five most transferred out players for Gameweek 22, sent packing by 243,000+ and 207,000+ respectively.

Hazard has mustered just a single assist in five yet both he and Morata also have some decent fixtures ahead to arrest their recent declines – over the next five Gameweeks, Antonio Conte’s side host Leicester, Bournemouth and West Brom and also make their way to Brighton and Watford.

Encouragingly for Hazard’s owners, he looks set to return to a central role with the visitors rolling out a 3-5-1-1 formation.

The Gunners, meanwhile, welcome back Mesut Ozil from a minor knee problem, though injuries in defence means that Arsene Wenger is forced to field the likes of Calum Chambers, Rob Holding and Ainsley Maitland-Niles in his starting line-up.

what hazard did against Arsenal last night to win a pen and what Niasse and Lanzini got banned for.

can anybody explain the difference? if Niasse and Lanzini got charged why not Haz?

the whole process is such a mess. nobody has a clue what simulation actually is.

fa aren't gonna ban everybody who doesn't stay vertical. There was contact before he went down so thats enough to rule out action

there was contact before Niasse went down- a hand across the chest. yet that was deemed as simulation by the panel. the meekest of kicks on the sole of hazards foot would not lead to a tumble like that (if thats the logic they used for niasse)

That's the way I see it, if a player receives contact and then falls to the fall it's nigh on impossible to prove that it was a dive, if Lanzini had just accepted the contact before falling to the ground then that also would have been a stone wall penalty with no retrospective action.

they both exaggerated the intensity of the contact but Niasse was more theatrical

I agree to a certain extent, and it is definitely a gray area. But I would say that the situations differ because Niasse and Lanzini initiated the contact - without doing what they did there wouldn't have been a coming together. But I think that Hazard was going for the ball and couldn't really avoid being touched by Bellerin if he got there first.

niasse didn't initiate the contact, a hand came out as he ran between two players and hit his chest and he went down.

Just watched it again and I have to say I agree with you - I don't think Niasse could have avoided contact. I think they both chose to go down, so there's not a great deal of difference to me - although I still think that Bellerin's was a foul but Dann's wasn't.

People seem to be forgetting Son doesn't tend to start in Spurs best 11, so with Wanyama back, I see him benched tonight (not for resting reasons as some have mocked my opinion for)

You seem to be forgetting that Pochettino has come out in heavy praise of Son just a couple of days back, so he may well have played his way into the best 11.

    Otamendi Ogbonna Jones

Good moves? Alonso and Aguero are the only differentials my ML rival has that I'm worries about

Nervous for tonight! My cup tie this week is tense!

He was 20 points ahead yesterday then Alonso scored for me, we both have Kane but I captained him and I have Alli & Eriksen...so I'm wanting 3/4 goals at least for Spurs!

Pros and cons about Wildcarding in January? Should you save your WC until the DGW's or can it pay off to use it this month?

    Things to consider:

    - If you WC'd now, would you spend the next gameweeks preparing for a DGW team anyway (So wouldn't get maximum benefit from WC'ing early, as you could end up taking out the players you've put in)

    - For me personally I have a lot of fires to put out (Elliot, Kabasele, Mbemba, Mee, Masuaku) so I'm trying to decide whether a quick WC fix could be as valuable as a WC just before the DGW (and then activating bench boost).

Just wanted your opinions at to whether an early WC could ever outdo a WC just before the DGWs?
