UFPL Transfer Window Discussion

With four Gameweeks having now passed in Ultimate Fantasy Premier League (UFPL) we are at the point where any remaining transfers have to be used by 12:30pm on the 12th September before they are lost forever. I wanted to use this article as a follow up to Djenzio’s previous surgery article to discuss who you might be bringing in to tide you over until the next transfer window opens up.

As my recent hot topic showed there are currently a couple of teams that have a lot of Match Day 2 (MD2) and Match Day 3 (MD3) games coming up before the transfer window – Tottenham  with eight and Liverpool with five. There are likely to be more teams added to this as European football takes place but for now will you be looking at adding some Spurs/Liverpool players to your squad?

Who is must have? Will you be going without big hitters that have failed to deliver so far like Eden Hazard, Wayne Rooney, Diego Costa and Harry Kane or are you confident they will come good? What strategies have been working for you? Have you found that taking risks works or is playing the game safe the best option?

    Thanks for starting this up.

I've got seven transfers left and will be looking to freshen up my cheep options and take a look at defence.

An everton defender (Jagielka) looks key. Williams has already shown the value of underlying stats with some solid returns even when conceding.

I lack a chelsea option so will probably go for the value of Pedro. I like his combination of point sources too.

I'll stick with Aguero but will consider switching Benteke out.

I thought I only had 6 transfers but turns out I have 9!

I'm considering downgrading Hazard to Pedro and getting Walker in somewhere else. Any remaining transfers will be used to sort out my 4.5m defenders. Might try and upgrade some cheap midfelders too.

      Anyone going for Costa/Rooney ?

I'm glad I've got 9 left, cos I'm shocked by how few of my original 25 I still want!

My advice would be to look beyond which teams rotate Sat / Sun well, to which ones have good fixtures whilst rotating well! Next level thinking.

He's first choice - think Trippier will get European games and Yedlin I'm not sure about at all.

I like Walker's attacking potential although I may spend the extra 0,5 and just get Rose

I wouldn't. If you do have to keep him though I'd have two very nailed on keepers to go with him. Also I think a goalkeeper from one of the top teams is vital because they'll play a lot of their games on Sunday which enables you to have two goalies in most weeks.

Wildcarded and kept Chadli. Really like him as a player and FPL prospect.

Due to the new signings and state of Spurs, not sure he'll do well. Should I transfer him out? £0.0m ITB

In interesting spot in my ML (5 teams, no duplicate players). This is my team:

    Rutland
    Cedric / Bellerin / Huth / Martin / Oxford
    Mata / Silva / Redmond / Chadli / Payet
    Pele / Aguero / Wilson
    2.5 ITB

Q1: I have the chance to pick up KDB, do it and how? (always got to pick up early or miss out!)
Q2: Been offered Sanchez for Silva - would you consider it if you got KDB?

Thanks for rebooting Djenzio's surgery Andy. What are people's thoughts on Sanchez? He's below 30% ownership atm, slightly lower than Silva, and way below that of Haz or Kun. He's surely bound to explode a few times before Jan. Then again, the way this season is going then maybe not

I think he is one of the best Arsenal options in UFPL, you avoid the gambling on who will play.

As a punt maybe Oxlade-Chamberlain could be a interesting choice, it's great that the format allows you get a couple of players who tend to play but are not necessarily nailed.

better ufpl prospect than fpl in my eyes cos u can sub out his no shows and take in his hauls. thats said midfield has lot of big hitters who arent performing so maybe cant tqke em all. i am keeping haz but still unsure about keeping sanchez

I think it's very important to pick players who have had quite a poor start to the season but have the potential to do well. Due to their low ownership you'll reap significant benefits if you get it correct. I'm looking at bringing in Ritchie with one of my transfers for example.

I agree about the low ownership factor, could really help jump up the ranks with a couple of low owned but potenitally large scoring players, especially in the UFPL format that allows you to take a few punts.

In midfield for example, players under 10% ownership include Ramsey, Sigurdsson, Chadli, Ozil, Mata, Bolasie, Mane, Eriksen, Walcott, Shaqiri, Tadic, Lens, Sako........ (Ok maybe not Wally)

    2. Camp No No
      • 10 Years

Ritchie's on my radar as well. Nailed on, involved, low ownership, getting cheaper although still a tad expensive for my taste.

Many of these players rely on somebody scoring the goals. So, it depends on how Son and N'Jie work how much Eriksen's got appeal, Tadic's appeal is significantly reduced by Pellè.

thanks for getting the ball rolling again Andy

I think some very good points have been made about getting low % players who have yet to perform.

Sanchez is defo one but its hard to fit him Aguero and Haz so for me I might try get Pedro Aguero and Sanchez and see where it leaves me.

Ritchie is a good shout too, esp with Gradle out he could be more productive.

Not sure to stick with Kane and Benteke though, might go for Chadli/Ericksen and a Rose and use the money from a Kane d/g to do so.

I also went with Hennessy as my 3rd keeper so think ill spend the 0.5 and get 3 playing keepers,

WIlliams def looking a good pick again like last season, getting points even when no clean sheet.

Ayew has been great and will be keeping but not sure to hold onto Sakho and Payet, hmmm.

    any new signings worth getting?

got alot of wasted money in my team including him and hazard to name but 2 but so many cheap options overperforming its not hard to keep em there as not short of cash.. the thing i am short of is transfers have 5 left wish i had 7 or 9 would be perfect.

how do we feel about players like Sinclair and Sako, who seem explosive but unreliable. I had Sinclair for the first 3 games and thought he had lost his place so switched him out to Mahrez (!) last week and lost Sinclairs haul and got nothing for Mahrez who came off injured!

Last season I went for two kind of bench fillers in my midfield who rarely played but this year there seems to be good value in the 5.5m range so maybe it's wiser to go with 2/3 of those and hope you get it right with them and play them for their big hauls.

I think to survive until the next transfer window, it's better to go for sure starters. The loan system itself doesn't really work well (you usually end up loosing more points than you gain).

I'd definitely get players like Mahrez/Albrighton, who are nailed and cheap and it's valid to play them.

I had the same last season, with non-playing cheapies and fully agree there are nice options now. I'd still get someone like Wanayama as a budget enabler.

Would you go top light (e.g. no Aguero, Rooney, Costa) with players like Wilson, Gomis, Lukaku , Giroud, etc. and go heavy in the midfield (Pedro, Silva,Yaya, etc.)?

Seriously considering it , as it allows you to have a really strong midfield, and I find the appeal of some attackers lessened in UFPL , as they get - points for chances wasted.

    1. djenzio

hmm maybe, but think you need a big hitter up top too, especially as points for goals have no effect on position.

Midfielders generally do relatively better in UFPL as, although they get the same points per goal as forwards, they are much more likely to pick up the extra points for things like recoveries, key passes etc. as a result I think it's a good strategy to not spend too much in attack. However going without Kun for 4 months is very risky in my opinion. I'm going with him then 3 mid range players (7 - 9m) and 2 budget

      1. djenzio
        • 9 Years
        8 years, 7 months ago

yeah that;s what I am doing,

had Kane from week 1 but don't think he is worth the price tag

Aguero is gonna be my big striker then will keep Hooper as 4.5 non playing bencher and then Wilson and a few mid rangers, maybe keep Tekkers and Sakho, might get Vardy or Gomis too, Deeney could be good too but maybe risky as he hasn't done much yet and Watford don't look likely to score many goals

I'm going Aguero and then probably Benteke/Gomis/Wilson/Sakho or something similar.

Nice I ended doing moreless the same, Vardy instead of Sakho and decided to gamble on Lukaku, in regular fpl he's more of a troll but could be really worth it here

What is the best downgrade option?

    Ruddy > McCarthy
    Puncheon > Sako
    Sinclair > Westwood

Probably the first option, assuming your other 2 keepers are nailed

Hmm...think I'd keep Targett. He has done well and although Bertie is nearing a return Koeman may feel he won't need to rush him back and he may get another chance if there's another full back injury. However there now seems to be a lot of competition in West Hams midfield after their flurry of transfer activity. Although the new midfielders are wide men, it may mean others like Kouyate and Payet being pushed back into the middle where Oxford got his games earlier on

This is the list of teams who have a match on the second or third match day for as long as the fixture list has been planned.. Should be helpful for picking what players will be good for bench options to bring in for players that have played badly on a Saturday?

    Spurs 8
    Liverpool 5
    Crystal Palace 4
    Sunderland 4
    Arsenal 3
    Aston Villa 3
    Everton 3
    Man Utd 3
    Newcastle 3
    Norwich 3
    Southampton 3
    Swansea 3
    West Ham 3
    Bournemouth 2
    Man City 2
    West Brom 2
    Chelsea 1
    Leicester 1
    Stoke 1
    Watford 1

so now its a question of working out what these later mds are actually worth... at first i thought ok they are the equivalent of an extra player but i soon realised its a lot more complicated than that. and no need to stuff myself with spurs after all..

Apologies for not being around on this article enough - been a busy week! Hopefully there's a few others in the same boat as me where they have a bunch of transfers left but have left it until the last minute

The main questions I have right now are:

Can we afford to drop Hazard for the long term and bring in someone like Pedro instead?
    Is Sanchez a must have?
Which Spurs players are you getting?

For you guys, who are the absolute must haves running up until January?

Yeah me too. Still have 9 transfers to go!

There's not a huge amount of players I feel I need that I don't already have. I think I might end up using free transfers to make sideways moves - Darmian to Shaw for example.

-yes. having 2 solid 8.5-10 options *may* be stronger than haz and a mid-range player
-i think he's worth the price but not a must have
-just chadli. my sunday options should still be fine. its gw 7 and 9 that will have people splashing out on loans if they're not prepared
-no must haves in this game, it's the beauty of the larger squad/substitutions

I've left Hazard in. We know he's too good not to bounce back sooner or later. you don;t go from Premier League player of the year to chopped liver in a few GW's!

Gone with Ozil over Sanchez. Wanted the later just couldn't afford him! Figured that Ozil will provide a steady run of pts for key passes, big chances created, etc even when he doesn't provide assists or goals. Think I might live to regret that one but it's the usual result of poor planning with my first 11 transfers leaving me no way out of the while I dug for myself with my final 5 😆

I have Kane as my lone Spurs coverage. He's the gal scorer in the team and watching him at Wembley on Tuesday night and sitting high up it's clear he knows how to make space for himself.

      Must haves?

For me it was Jags, Williams, Hazard, Silva, Aguero & Kane

i have sanchez but personally i'd go for cazorla (or ramsey) over özil. cazorla still creates plenty of chances, takes penalties, and seems to get a recovery point most games from his midfield position

I just realised I have no Everton in my team and made my transfers last night in case I forgot to do it this morning!

this is what I have ended up with...

      Kasper Migs Gomes

Kolorov Williams Cedric Dawson Martin Morgan Francis Saylor

Sanchez Pedro Coutinho Silva Ayew Chadli Mahrez Morrison

Aguero Benteke Gomis Sakho Wilson Hooper

Doesn't look too bad that! Coutinho is someone I've just put in but it's for Mane so I'm not sure.

Lukaku and Jagielka currently in too.

having a bit of trouble deciding whether to go pedro+ramsey or de bruyne and mane. the former strikes me as a better combination (especially considering i'd be going without chelsea otherwise) but i'm a bit low in the ranks and i'd be hoping that kdb and mane would be my difs to gain some ground. any help on offer !?

Difficult, i'd say Pedro,as you want some Chelsea cover.
I suppose it would have to be Ramsey if that's your only Arsenal midfielder.
Personally I've decided to keep Mane aftere last GW though and also went for the
      slightly cheaper YYT option

Think i'm going in with Sanchez, went ballistic in Oct/Nov last season so i'm gambling he can do something similar. To afford this though i've gone Pedro over Hazard and YYT over Silva.
Going in with Kane, those late (c) options look too good to miss out on and currently deciding whether to go Alderweireld or Naughton for my last defensive spot

Yeah I'm looking at bringing in Kane for that exact reason and I'll probably get a defender too - probably Walker.

I can only afford Alderweireld, but i just think his later appearances may just outway
Swansea's more solid defence, going to have to hope some of my 4.5 saturday guys
can put a score or 2 in here and there.

    a) Sanchez
    b) Ayew
    c) Pedro
    d) Play Westwood and save.

    Schmeichel

    Kolarov Darmian Gomez Muniesa Richards

    Ozil Depay Silva Payet Westwood

    Aguero Gomis Wilson
