FIFFSA – Five-a-side World Cup Update

Welcome to the latest update on the FIFFSA Five-A-Side World Cup. We are delighted to announce we already have 41 complete teams and nine more managers actively recruiting. This is a really impressive turn out already considering there are still two more weeks to sign up. We want to thank all of you for your participation and especially those who have already got in to the spirit of the tournament and have been making press conferences in the articles and making new gravatars for the occasion. The Tournament Format

As some of you have already been asking, we’d like to elaborate a bit on the tournament format, which we have previously said would follow a World Cup Format as closely as possible.

This means we want to stage a final 32 team World Cup in Thailand, staying true to this years amateur five-a-side World Cup’s location. To get to Thailand there will be a qualifying format not dissimilar to the FIFA World Cup’s qualifying process with qualifying groups and playoffs for best losers. The qualifying process will last between five and eight weeks to ensure that no teams leave the competition too early.

The exact format of the qualifying is yet to be worked out as the number of teams is still growing but we will finalise the process shortly after the registration deadline on November 11th.

How do the matches work?

The Five-A-Side World Cup is a tournament open to squads of six players, who will field a team of five players each week, with one player on the substitute’s bench. A team’s score each week will be the sum of the FPL scores of the five players the team fields.

Each week, teams will go head to head against another team and the team with the highest aggregate score will win that match.

Can I still join?

Anybody in the FFScout community with an official FPL team is eligible to join,Whether this is your first season or your tenth.

IF you want to join a team that is still recruiting, please check this spreadsheet to see which captains still have space and  then contact them either here on FFS or via email should you wish to join their nation.

For individuals who wish to participate in the tournament but not are unsure who you want to join, you can fill out this form for players looking for a team. Your details will then be included on our unaffiliated players list that will be passed to the team captains to recruit from. A post on this article may also attract the interest of a captain.

If you are interested in captaining your own nation, please email fiffsa.exec@gmail.com to confirm the nation’s availability and allow us to track team numbers. The countries to be represented will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis as captains volunteer themselves.

Once you have a team together, with at least five players but preferably six, you should fill out this form to register your squad.

For the new managers amongst us, FIFFSA have put together a brief guide on the captaincy role and what the job entails.

If you have any further queries, feel free to ask below in the comments or email us at: fiffsa.exec@gmail.com

As a final request, please do try and keep FIFFSA 5-A-Side chat to the comment sections of our articles.

Enjoy the tournament; this is the FIFFSA 5-A-Side World Cup. Accept no imitations.

The FIFFSA Executive Committee – President Sepp Balders, VP BabyB,  VP Jaffalicious!, VP Diva, VP Blue Lion and Secretary General Jerome Cheeseoid.

FPL is a simple game made complicated by double gameweek planners.

Honestly, I think there is a rule here about images created by piecing various characters together (there is a word for it, but I don't know it). Unreal got nailed for it several times. I think maybe Mull's face (made of characters) was what did it--I doubt Thomass even saw it.

      O flower of Scotland
When will we see your like again
      That fought and died for
Your wee bit hill and glen
      And stood against him
      Proud Edward's army
      And sent him homeward
      Tae think again

      The hills are bare now
And autumn leaves lie thick and still
O'er land that is lost now
      Which those so dearly held
      And stood against him
      Proud Edward's army
      And sent him homeward
      Tae think again

      Those days are passed now
And in the past they must remain
But we can still rise now
      And be the nation again
      That stood against him
      Proud Edward's army
      And sent him homeward
      Tae think again

    Breaking :- reuters/: World 5 a side. Sports update.. Fri 31 Oct 06.35 (Gmt)

► _______________ NORTH KOREA ARRIVE IN BRAZIL. ____________◄

It wasn't so much the journey that caused the uneasy feeling within me, the crossing had been pleasant enough, the bananas had made quite a comfortable bed and Kim Wild Rover, rumoured to be 162, was waxing lyrical on countless stories of adventure from his fantasy eclectic life; It was the fact I'd left Kim Nam Navas behind that plagued me, and as Christ the Redeemer came majestically into view as we sailed into Rio de Janeiro, I knew in my heart, I had personally crucified Jesus.

As we disembarked our trusty clipper the Wing Wong Winehouse, Megatron proved to be a burden, still singing his rock songs from deep dark places and clutching his rum in a death vice grip, we managed to carry him ashore. Akeem Jong Il and Kim Rolls Reus ran excitedly up the beach looking for bum bums and haven't been seen since.____Van Kim Kert Delorosa then led the way to find men selling jelly and dogs wearing kilts.

Scores to be settled,_____ Honour to be won.

    Good Luck Everyone! 🙂

Most of the teams for the friendly competition have touched down and are currently warming up on the white sandy beaches of Rio de Janeiro. We are still waiting on a number of nations, including Jamaica who are reportedly hot-boxing their hotel room.

We are awaiting Sepp Balders' arrival after he gave his blessing for the tournament to go ahead. A half dozen of our Miss. BumBums have been issued to give mister Balders a nice surprise upon his arrival.

Fixtures will be announced at noon.

Couldn't find a fair way of deciding who the benched player was going to be and felt it was too much to ask of captains since the tournament hasn't begun yet.

It's a bit like an actually friendly, whereby teams aren't limited to 3 substitutes.

I'm going to score them off just their 5 players, however I will also post the average, player score for each team, say, in brackets next to the actual score.

            E.g Team X 250 (50) v Team Y 360 (60)

Whereby team X has 5 players and team Y 6. Will probably put an asterisk next to the team's name so it's more visible.

Don't think there's too many teams who have 5 players, maybe just 1 or 2.

Half Time Report: UAE v England

So at half-time in the UAE v England match, it’s apparent that team England have frivolously used up their captaincy resource on Saturday. The tie is delicately poised going into Sunday’s crucial fixtures, with England holding a 3 point lead (259 v 262), once automatic substitutions are included and hits are accounted for.

Both teams are going into the second half holding 13 players each across their respective teams, but the key factor could be the fact that 3 UAE players are still awaiting the introduction of their captains to proceedings. All eyes will be on the Southampton v Bournemouth game today, due to significant recent investment in the former, and fans of the UAE will no doubt be watching on, hopeful of a positive result when the week is out.

Well the national anthems are out of the way, so let the battle commence. I would say good luck for this 6 a side game but seeing JTD propping up the bar with his face stuck in his own vomit I guess your down to 5.

I thought this was a friendly tournament. And yet you insult all the people of San Marino. We're not a large country but we are proud of it and our traditions. Now, why don't we invite you Scots to a half-time snack. We've brought tomatoes, mozzarella, pesto sauce, bread, olive oil and a few bottles of our local wine.

***** Sri Lanka vs Djibouti half time report *****

    Sri Lanka - 259

    Djibouti - 263

Djibouti lead Sri Lanka by 4 points at the end of the first half of the friendly. It was a very closely fought half with barely anything splitting the sides. The players were focused on getting minutes under there belt and gaining fitness so the players were more reserved and it wasn't the most pleasing half of football you would see. Hopefully there will be more action in the next half.

As the Sri Lankan captain I think this was a great half of football for our guys. We took in the atmosphere and got a good feel of our opponents. We hope to come out with more energy. We were not committed to our tackling and marking so we hope to improve on that and slow down their scoring. Our forwards are fresh and raring to go so goals are definitely coming. At the end of the game we will sit down and break down our plays.

I'm surprised at the turnout of supporters. I hope to put on a show for them and give them something to cheer about and make it worth their time and money.

Get hyped for an exciting half of football!!

*** Scores are raw. Hits for transfers were not subtracted and auto-subs also have to go in to affect. Many captains are yet to play too.

It's not over yet. If it happens you do win, then congrats. But remember it's a pre season friendly. To put it in perspective many people said City would struggle for the top four after their iffy pre season. Currently sit top of the table. Expect something similar with Spain

Portugal Vs. Columbia (as it stands after bonus and hits)...

    Points:
    Portugal - 372
    Columbia - 359

In Lisbon Team Portugal have a slender lead of 13 (thirteen) points going into added on time (Spurs VS Villa MNF). There have been no stand out performers for Portugal with all players scoring within a seven point range. This is thanks in part to the selection of the Leicester duo of Mahrez and Vardy by all players. Team Columbia meanwhile have been buoyed by 6th player Pochecinno who has scored a very respectable 73 points in the tie.

A closer look at the state of the players on the pitch though reveals the Portuguese are now firm favourites to win the tie.

    Players Remaining:
Portugal - Kane (c), Kane, Kane, Alderweireld
    Columbia - Kane, Eriksen

Failing something abysmal from Kane and Alderweireld (to achieve negative scores) combined with something heroic from Eriksen, it's looking like all the pre-match bravado didn't pay off for Team Columbia this time.
