This Much We Know – Gameweek 31

There’s plenty for us to ponder this Monday evening as we assess the lessons learned over the weekend’s ten fixtures. Riyad Mahrez and Harry Kane have the form to punish any potential sellers with one eye on the double Gameweeks, City’s malaise shows no signs of ending, Everton’s lack of consistency is a real concern, whilst Arsenal’s young wide man may have played his way into wildcard consideration.

Selling Mahrez could prove costly….
It’s 16 goals and 11 assists for the season now for Leicester’s wide man after he bagged the weekend winner at Palace. Although many are looking to bring in 15 players with a pair of fixtures in time for double Gameweek 24, can we really risk selling a player that’s averaged 7.2 points per game so far? With a trip to Sunderland in Gameweek 33 and home clash against Swansea in Gameweek 35 – at a time where six sides are without a fixture – Mahrez’ current form may well retain his place in our wildcard teams as the Foxes look to cement their spot at the summit.

…and Kane looks undroppable….
The Tottenham frontman is also stepping up his output as Mauricio Pochettino’s men remain in the race for the crown. Kane’s two goals and assist against Bournemouth helped him to a 16-point haul and, allied with a double at Villa, served up back-to-back double-figure returns for the first time this term. Granted, the fixtures are hardly straightforward (liv, MUN, sto, WBA, che) but Kane’s red-hot streak is clearly making many think twice over parting company.

Everton’s inconsistency remains an issue….
With nine matches still to play in the final seven Gameweeks, Everton’s home clash against Arsenal afforded us an early opportunity to scout their main men ahead of the double Gameweeks. The Toffees failed to convince, though – a 2-0 Goodison loss was the second time in three they’ve been unable to score in front of their own fans, whilst Roberto Martinez’ men have now failed to keep a clean sheet in each of the last four. Whilst Romelu Lukaku remains a key target for most, his team-mates are struggling to show they are worthy of our consideration.

Iwobi’s on the radar….
Handed a start against Barcelona in midweek, the youngster kept his place as Arsene Wenger’s side made their way to Goodison. Iwobi vindicated his manager’s decision by netting the second in a 2-0 win to strengthen his claim for a run of first-team outings from this point onwards. Priced at just 4.5 and listed as a midfielder, the teenager is bound to spark a bandwagon if he can hold off the challenge of Theo Walcott and Joel Campbell for double Gameweek 34.

The Hammers lone striker role remains up for grabs….
Rewarded for his goal and assist off the bench at Everton with a first start since Gameweek 14, Diafra Sakho was unable to take his chance in West Ham’s stalemate at Stamford Bridge. Just one minute after replacing the Senegal striker, Andy Carroll was amongst the goals as Slaven Bilic’s “Plan B” immediately reaped reward against the champions. Although the Hammers’ assets will surely play a part in our wildcards as a result of their pair of doubles, the competition for minutes up front looks set to steer our attentions away from their strikers.

The Canaries are building momentum….
It’s back-to-back clean sheets for Alex Neil’s men, with a 1-0 win at West Brom helping them clamber two points clear of the drop zone. Norwich’s triumph over Tony Pulis’ men came without the likes of Nathan Redmond and Steven Naismith, with a 4-4-2 set-up proving decisive at the Hawthorns. With three vital fixtures to follow (NEW, cpl, SUN) and a double in Gameweek 35 (MUN, WAT), the Carrow Road club may yet prove an unlikely source of Fantasy returns as they look to save their top-flight status.

Mitrovic could be Rafa’s main man….
The Serbian has now started both matches since the appointment of Rafa Benitez and fired a precious equaliser at home to Sunderland to salvage a derby draw. Analysing the numbers, Mitrovic clearly looks key to their survival bid – he sits second amongst forwards for touches in the box and joint-top for efforts in the opposition box in the last two Gameweeks. Having also found the net against the likes of United, City and Spurs, the 6.2-priced striker may well prove a canny differential for those willing to gamble with their three-man frontlines.

The Saints still have plenty to play for….
A stunning 3-2 comeback win over Liverpool took the St Mary’s side to just four points off fourth spot yesterday. Granted, their lack of a double Gameweeks will ensure than few, if any, will be tempted by weekend scorers Graziano Pelle (three goals and two assists in two Gameweeks) or Sadio Mane but with their dreams of Champions League football still very much alive, the Saints clearly have the form to play a part in the run-in. Those holding Leicester defenders will be hoping the Foxes can curtail Koeman’s charges as they head to the King Power next time out.

Our Liverpool options are on the up….
With Roberto Firmino sidelined through a hamstring injury, Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge served a timely reminder of their capabilities by bagging a goal apiece at Southampton. Although Firmino remains the standout option for many ahead of Liverpool’s two doubles, yesterday’s teamsheet – where Coutinho and Sturridge started for the second time in three days – also suggests that rotation may not be quite as rife as we anticipated over the run-in. With Adam Lallana now sitting on three goals and as many assists in his last six league outings, the case for looking beyond Firmino is gathering pace.

Pep’s arrival can’t come soon enough for City….
A 1-0 home reverse to United means that the Etihad side have won just three of 11 matches in all competitions since confirming the Spaniard’s summer arrival. In terms of league outings, City have played seven times and scored more than a single goal on one occasion over that period – a 4-0 thrashing of basement-dwellers Villa in Gameweek 29. With Joe Hart and Raheem Sterling adding to Manuel Pellegrini’s injury concerns, City’s worrying lack of form may well see many opt against loading up on their main men ahead of the double.

United’s defence may be the way to go….
Whilst Marcus Rashford hogged the headlines with a derby winner over City, United’s lack of impact in the final third – two goals in the last three Gameweeks – allied with the imminent return of Wayne Rooney, dents the youngster’s Fantasy prospects. Instead, yesterday’s 1-0 win earned the Red Devils a fourteenth clean sheet of the season and strengthened the case for considering their defenders in our wildcard plans. With back-to-back home clashes against Villa and Palace in Gameweek 34, the appeal of Chris Smalling and David de Gea is gaining momentum after another resilient rearguard display.

Probably to raise money to get Smalling. But if you don't use WC to get this team, it is worth the Rojo risk.

Funnily after tinkering about on my WC drafts, I am looking at getting a Spurs defender in. My opinion is, the goals will not come as easily for Spurs and they will look to tighten up to eke out CSs once they get near Leicester. Although, this premise rests on Leicester losing the next game at home to Saints. Would love for that to happen.

On that note, if it occurs, Rose/Walker nailed to start every game now that they don't have other distractions?

I don’t have a WC or any chips left. Oops.

This is a potential plan for my GW34 team

    GW32
    Targett > Flanno
    Bunn > Elliot

    GW33
    Siggy > Lallana/Firmino/Coutinho
    Alli > Antonio -4

    GW34

    Vardy > Martial/Rashford
    Wiliams > Dawson/Evans

    Gives me

    Elliot
Otamendi / Flanno / Dawson or Evans
    Ozil / Firmino / Payet / Antonio
Kane / Kun / Martial or Rashford

Subs: Butland / Mahrez / Daniels / Toby

    Thoughts?

    tl:dr

      • 10 Years
      8 years, 2 months ago

•Targett -> Flanno is out of the frying pan into the fire type stuff
•If you want a Butland rotator get Mignolet or don't bother
      • GW33 transfers look solid, maybe look at Lanzini over Antonio
      • United forward will be good
      • Go for Watford D over West Brom

Targett > Flanno has already happened lol. Wanted to try something a little different.

Mignolet is a good shout too.

I was debating Lanzini, cheaper and great player. Guess i'll keep an eye on him until then.

I went WBA because they play in 35 and Watford don't

Do you need WBA to get 11 out in GW35? Thier fixture (tot) is horrible stuff.

Don't have BB. Keeping Mahrez and Simpson on the bench GW34 (might end up playing Mahrez). GW35 I'll play Rose, Mahrez, Simpson, Arsenal...etc. who all have beautiful fixtures.
No point getting an 11th who has ARS or liv.

I've got Toby and Kompany in but need to make up some cash if i want a strong midfield and strong forward line for the DGW. So i have to sacrifice someone in my defense for a cheaper option. If not, i have to take a punt on Welbeck instead of Lukaku for the DGW.

GW36 wildcarder here. How do my plans for GW34 look? Any suggestions? (Those I currently don't own are marked by an asterisk)

    ROBLES (Butland)
    SMALLING*, BELLERIN*, DAWSON (Alderweireld, Simpson)
    SILVA, ANTONIO, OZIL, MILNER*, Mahrez
    AGUERO, LUKAKU (Kane)

Lukaku -> Pelle or another in-form striker would leave me with a pretty strong team for GW35.

I think he should slot back in. Their second half performance against Southampton helps with that.

Avg of 5.6 points and 83 minutes in the 8 matches before he was suspended, and that includes the dismissal vs Palace. At 6.5 mil that screams investment to me.

So what are disadvantages of just WC now?
Getting in who we would be next GW anyway with an extra week to make any switches for GW 35..

My side has mainly difficult fixtures this week..
Wondering is it really worth waiting the extra GW?

I suppose injuries might scupper your team. Clarity on United's strikers, are City on the beach ?

For me the key issue is Aguero. If you take him out you have a great squad.

Do you go with 3 other DGW strikers ? City look awful and disinterested.
You need players with something to play for.

All your rivals seeing your plans two weeks early, and being able to copy them.

They may not have been aware of the DGWs. They may not have considered the possibiltiy of a full squad of DGWers. They may not knnow that if they WC in GW34 they can't use their chip too.

I'm keeping my plans secret till the last minute to maximise the advantage.

Im pretty happy with my team apart from the last couple of spots. I can get 11 DGW in 34 without any hits. I might take a hit for hennessy to someone good!

My dilemma is that I really want sanchez, but if I do that, I have to play someone like Rondon or Deeney. Other option is to go Wijnaldum and Lukaku.

    Really cant decide! Any thoughts?

      Agreed.

      Kane too.

In fact, you could make a case for a LEI defender, a Spuds defender, Alli possibly too.

I'm not bothered if I only have 10 dgw players. Need to look beyond one single gwk imo.

Looking at early options for siggy and Silva replacements. Silva worth keeping for Bournemouth though right? Although its away and city seem garbage right now lol.

Mata - has set pieces and anything United do would come from him, United not really doing enough. Has a great double in 34 though.

Firmino - Probably a must get although current injury doubt. Possible rotation risk with Europe but strong fixtures.

Coutinho - Back from injury, scored a cracker against united in the cup. We know what he can do. Potential double up with Firmino, rotation risk?

Erikson - Spurs in form but no double weeks.

Ozil - Arsenal have a good double week and he is the one to create things, has dropped off a bit though to be fair and might be injured?

Sanchez - Expensive but maybe better than Ozil, has started to get some returns now.

    Did i miss anyone? haha

Current mid is Siggy - Silva - Payet - Mahrez - King

I think you have to look at hammers. I know there is no DGW in 34 but easy to manipulate. My run in will include:

W Ham, Arsenal, Pool, Man U, Everton Spurs and Mahrez in the front 8 for sure.

Only ARS and Man U have a decent two games. Man U are kak so you wouldn't go with anyone from them.

ARS hardly appeal either. Ozil is firing blanks, Sanchez is too risky, the forwards get rotated, the defence concedes goals, etc, etc.

    DDG, Adrian
    Bellerin, Sagna, Smalling, Clyne, Simpson

Leaves me with 10 for 35, will take out Liverpool mid for Mahrez.

      Likeable.

Like the gks - although do they blank in 35?

The defence appeals too although Clyne is a little pricy for Liverpud.

Mids look great too bar Lingard. I'd be keeping Mahrez. Even Alli.

Bit risky with Welbeck. Igloo appeals.

Unless the Palace v Everton match is scheduled for GW35, I am absolutely set on saving my wildcard until GW36 and getting 15 DGWers for a final blitz in GW37.

Can get this team together for GW34 with just a single hit.(players to be brought in with an asterisk)

    MIGNOLET*, (Hennessey)
    BELLERIN, ROJO*, GABRIEL*, OTAMENDI (Simpson)
OZIL (TC), PAYET, FIRMINO*, Mahrez (Alli)
    MARTIAL*, AGUERO, (Kane)

Allows me to keep two each of Spurs/Leicester for 3 more weeks.

    1) Anyone want to try and convince me I should Wildcard in GW33 with the rest of the FFS herd?
    2) Is it too risky to go without Lukaku?
    3) Are my players selected to bring in the right ones?
