The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 28

Eleven goals from the three matches – a hat-trick from a midfield differential and another double-digit return from Romelu Lukaku – with Liverpool’s attack yet to feature, Gameweek 28 looks destined to punch well above its weight.

Brought in by more than 143,000 ahead of Gameweek 28, second only to Swansea City’s Gylfi Sigurdsson among midfielders, Bournemouth’s Josh King is clearly the headline act so far.

It all started disastrously for King’s legion of new owners, with the Norwegian calmly side-footing his early spot-kick wide to register a -2 deficit.

However, he was to recover spectacularly, notching only the second hat-trick by an FPL midfielder this season, only falling short of matching Alexis Sanchez’ Gameweek 14 tally of 23-points due to his early penalty miss.

Deployed in a central striker role in recent matches, King was again played in the No 10 position behind Benik Afobe but found his route to goal nonetheless.

Incredibly, he has now produced eight goals in his last seven Gameweeks and looks an assured starter and vital source of goals for the Cherries for the remainder of the season.

The fixture list may stiffen, but King’s potential to go on providing points for a price tag of just 5.5 will surely drive an instant boom in ownership.

Already more than 10,000 have made the move ahead of the Gameweek 29 home meeting with Swansea City – only Spurs’ Harry Kane has seen more transfers since today’s 2pm deadline.

The availability such a budget midfield option, potentially playing in a striker’s role, could now raise further doubts on relying on a three-man forward line.

Southampton’s Manolo Gabbiadini will be targeted by many once he returns to action but, arguably, with such value available in midfield, there remains a strong case for the 3-5-2.

Certainly, Lukaku looks destined to remain part of our strike force, regardless of formation. He also played a key role in ensuring that the Gameweek 28 tallies will be higher than perhaps expected.

The top captain pick, with 767,000 trusting the striker with the armband, he once again proved his new reassuring level of consistency, particularly at Goodison Park.

Scoring for the fifth consecutive home outing, Lukaku produced a seventh double-figure return and, regardless of the frenzied clamour for Kane ahead of Gameweek 29, his role in our squads surely cannot be questioned.

With three of the next five at home – against Hull City, Leicester City and Burnley – Lukaku will remain locked in and will likely challenge as a captaincy contender over those matches.

While there was disappointment, with Swansea City’s Fernando Llorente failing to provide for his 378,000 new owners having limped off with a dead leg, it seems likely that Gameweek 28 could yet supply some significant scores – particularly if the Liverpool midfield can sparkle at Anfield on Sunday.

Having been flattened by the paltry returns from Manchester City’s midweek failings, Gameweek 28 has already provided unexpected fireworks with Messrs Mane, Coutinho, and perhaps Firmino, yet to take the stage to follow King’s lead.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Jonty, Mark and Andy all got Josh King.

Can't understand why TM didn't. There was only a small pool of standout players to choose from this week. Why was he overlooked?

Not having a pop. I'm genuinely interested because TM is one of the best FPL managers on here.

Each team has a certain amount of transfers that fit it.
Mark was short lots of players so could pick whoever he wanted.
I already had 9 so got rid of Ibra and Sterling for Llorente and Coutinho.
FPL is about timing and luck. If I still had Phillips this week then it would have been a no brainer.

Serious question: why was king a no-brainer? I looked at it and worked out it was a -4 to get him in and probably. -4 to get him out. So I'd need at least a goal and bonus to breakeven Couldn't see a fixture I'd want him in after this.week.i ended up with Grosicki as he had 3 decent home games coming which I'd probably play him on.
        King wasn't even OOP today!!

Depends on whether you wanted to take a hit on Phillips or not
. Considering Coutinho, West Ham options, Llorente over king would have been the reason and it could have easily swung that way. Bmouth haven't won a game in ages, it was a huge upset.

I obviously can't comment for the man himself but I would not have included King as a standout transfer this week(hindsight excluding!)

Maybe king didnt fit into his team!
My main reason for buying buying king was because it lets me do carroll >kane next week.
So i did eriksen >king to have enough money ITB.
If money wasnt an issue i would've got coutinho or barkley

    Current Team:

    Grant - Foster
    Walker - Coleman - Mee - Smith - Amat
    Alli - King - Lallana - Siggy - Antonio
    Kaku - Kane - Rondon

Dropping either Lallana or Rondon. If I drop Rondon for a good enough striker I'll play A.O.A.

    Lallana for:
A)Sanchez (empty bank, two weeks with Rondon 🙁 )

To sum up what Ruth said about WCs:

The WC is the best chip by far, not BB or TC. It's the best because of it's LONG-TERM impact. So saving it for GW36 where you get 1 or 2 weeks benefit is madness.

You can WC now then use FTs wisely and load up on DGW players. It's not rocket science

WC in 36 gives you 15 double gameweekers for GW37 and you don't have to deal with thcleaning up afterwards as only 1 week left.

Also if you try and get there with FTs you will have to sell players in advance who may have better fixtures/form.

Have to agree here. Used mine back in january when my team was shambles and was totally worth it. Really changed the course of my season and now Iv seen green arrows for the past few months. Next up is loading DGW players in with FTs 🙂

        Bang on

It's not hard to load up on players who don't blank/have a DGW. Especially now it's near the end of the season

        1. CABAYE4
          • 12 Years
          7 years, 2 months ago

Problem with that is you're basing your decisions on who to bring in now on the fact they have or don't have a double.

For instance Liverpool and Everton don't have a double but Lukaku and Mane look good picks over the next 4-6 so you'd be selling form players.

Also run the risk of doing a Phillips and bringing in duds weeks ahead.

A GW36 WC allows you to target the next few weeks normally rather than having one eye on the DGW.

Was planning on using it this week myself, but think I'll hold it for GW29 and then use it. Most of the players with a game this week have decent fixtures next week. Then there's a two week break for internationals during which we might know a bit more about DGWs

Its not madness, using it in wk36 is the easiest way to be reasonably certain of the results, to reduce the unknowns.

Doesn't mean its the best option though, but wildcarding earlier may be riskier/harder but possibly with a higher points ceiling upside.

People are stupid. Same as all the ones selling Llorente, Mane, etc when they were due to rise tonight if they just held on.

just a bit of confusion.. so want to confirm..
I am 0.1 short of sanchez...
bought kaku at 10.1, currently he is 10.2, if he rises tonight will my ITB amount rises by 0.1 ?

No you'd get an extra 0.1 if you sell Lukaku, i.e. you could sell him for 10.2. Doesn't go directly into your bank

      Early thoughts on this lot.

Players I am looking to sort are:
      a) Baines (back injury, never good) b) Brunt (unsure of position in team and fixtures turning sour)
      c) Snodgrass (taking valuable space up in my team with little to no return in weeks and lost starting position.

      OR

Save FT and worry about the above next week.

        Valdes
        Alonso Baines Walker
        Mane Pedro Siggy Firmino
        Lukaku Llorente Kane

        Jaku Brunt Snodgrass Olson

Looks pretty good. Subs should plug gaps. I'd spend longer thinking it over or waiting for injury/line up info.

Ouch. I bought Carroll :-/ too many potential goal scorers and Assist makers at West Ham. Hard to get it right.

True there, was sound logic. ML rival has Antonio so was looking for a differential and Lanzini leaves me enough flexibility for Sanchez, still sucks right now though

            This
West ham is Lpool 2.0 right now.
Went Carroll to avoid the midfield, still got it wrong.

          Firmino ?

Does that make you feel any better

Took a chance on Carroll and lost two points as I see it but am going to the game next saturday. Any chance Big Andy will be dropped? Or will he always start as long as He doesn't get injured.

Think he will start for sure. Was disappointed he couldn't find a way today. Thought he'd find Bournemouth's defense very obliging. Kinda doubting the decision but I will save the transfer and swap him when I have 2 frees given he has a good fixture this week also.

I am worried. Back injury never sounds good and not like the man is a spring chicken or anything.

Prepare for the worst. I was planning on offloading him anyway after next weekend and may just stick with that plan

        My Team:

        Pickford

        Baines Alonso Brunt

        Mane Mirallas King Sigurddson

        Kane Costa Lukaku

        Jakupovic Pieters Amat Phillips

I already did a transfer of Aguero out - Kane in. Should I do any other transfer taking a hit? Or is this team good?
