Dugout Discussion

Dugout Discussion – Southampton vs Man United

After Alexis Sanchez ended Double Gameweek 37 with a season-high 27 points, Wednesday night’s meeting at St Mary’s has a lot to live up to.

Southampton entertain Manchester United in the penultimate showdown of a seven-day round of fixtures, and it’s fair to say that Claude Puel and Jose Mourinho both owe us a favour after their recent penchant for rotation scuppered many best-laid wildcard plans.

The Saints’ boss reinstalls a number of regulars after the 2-1 win at Middlesbrough on Saturday. Snapped up by 40,000+ and 27,000+ respectively for their second successive Double Gameweek, Jack Stephens and Manolo Gabbiadini return to the first XI along with the likes of Dusan Tadic, Nathan Redmond and Cedric Soares.

Despite mustering just a single assist in his last six league outings, Gabbiadini is his side’s most captained player, with 15,000+ handing him the armband for the Double.

Fantasy faith in United is at a low as Mourinho looks to keep his main men fresh with one eye on next week’s Europa League final against Ajax.

Marcus Rashford continues to be used sparingly on the domestic stage and is handed a third successive appearance on the bench, though Wayne Rooney is named in the first XI for the fourth successive league outing.

Having found the net in three of his last four Gameweek appearances, the Red Devils’ skipper is the most captained FPL asset among Mourinho’s starting line-up, with almost 28,000 affording him the armband.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    A general question for the DZ.. From a general perspective (non fpl) who do you think is a better footballer and why ? Hazard or Sanchez?

      Sanchez, because he plays like a streetfighter who always cares. Hazard can go missing for long periods of time (like last season) when he doesn't feel pampered and special enough. I don't like Hazard's psychological unsteadiness. Sanchez has some of the doggedness of a player like Tevez -- always running hard and not taking his millions for granted. I'd buy Sanchez for my real team long before I'd buy Hazard, even though it seems there's some chance Hazard will break a transfer record if he's sold over the summer.

      i have to say hazard because he is more succesful trophywise. he has also won the player of the year and should win it again this year.

      Sanchez, without debate. His work rate is much better than Eden's, better offensive player and he really showed this season that his playmaking is just as good as his goalscoring. More versatile and 'disappears' much less frequently than Hazard.

      Sanchez. He has carried Arsenal all season. Involved in more goals, works hard for the team.

      Hazard has hidden away for a good portion of the season and really hasn't been as good as people have made out. I couldn't tell you one standout performance by him all season. Not as highly involved in goals and doesn't work hard enough for the team.

      I am a Chelsea fan but I have to say Sanchez on this one..
      Both are highly skilled but Alexis is a real fighter and I like his competitive attitude...

      Has to be Hazard. I disagree with the ones saying Hazard doesn't work hard enough. The title under Mourinho was when he carried Chelsea much like Alexis is carrying Arsenal now. The only difference is he won us the Premier league. Perhaps I'm biased but hey, who isn't? !

      I love Alexis as a player myself. I can't ever point a finger at him for the lack of trying. But when on form, Hazard is streets ahead of Alexis. It's not only about scoring or assisting more is it? The way he has evolved his game despite constant change of managers and various tactical inputs from different managers is splendid. Let's also not forget that he is younger, has significantly altered courses of the Premier league and his best is yet to come. Perhaps, Sanchez is at his very peak right now. But Eden is yet to reach it and without getting there's he has done what he has.

      Sanchez. He's a team player whereas Hazard has a tendency to go missing at times e.g remember Mourinho berating him for not tracking back in one game.

      Sanchez scores more goals than Hazard too which is a slightly important point.

      It's a bit like the Ronald/Messi argument. Both top quality footballers but, if I had to pick one to play for Coventry, I'd pick Sanchez (and Ronaldo over Messi). Harder work and less reliance on there being quality around him

      im a chelsea fan but i have to say sanchez.... that physics & never give up attitude buy me in... plus i think he's more skillful than hazard...

      Alexis has a beast mode and is a winner where he can (2 copa Americas with Chile; God in his country, and to some of us here). I think Eriksen is better than Hazard.

      Sanchez is so much better. People aren't talking about him because of his mid-season paddy and the dive from Fuchs' throw in. Other than that, he has been loads better than Hazard this season.

      You could argue that Haz is naturally more talented but Sanchez's work ethic makes him the better player.

        could hazard do for arsenal what sanchez has done? I don't think so, he has an attitude similar to ozil, goes missing when the team arnt playing perfectly

    What's the best option out of these, i have 2 free transfers:
    A) Hazard, Yoshida to Coutinho, Terry
    B) Hazard, King to Coutinho, Siggurdson
    C) Hazard, Anichebe to Coutinho, Llorente (bench King)
    D) Keep Hazard and do Alli to Coutinho
    E) Something different

    My team:
    Willy, Pick
    Alonso, Monreal, Vert, Stephens, Yoshida
    Sanchez, Hazard, Alli, Sane, King
    Kane, Jesus, Anichebe
    2FT, 0.0 ITB

    Thanks in advance.

        I kind of doubt that Alonso would be benched 2 games in a row, i like option A because double Chelsea defenders would be great, but even if Alonso ends up getting benched, i'll have Vertonghen coming in from the bench.

        And i doubt Origi will play with Sturridge and (probably) Firmino fit.

      There's some doubt around Alonso and Hazard because of the FA cup and doubt around Stephens because of rotation. Anichebe has a hamstring injury, so I doubt he'll play. I'd do E) Hazard to someone from Liverpool or Hazard and Alli to Coutinho and Origi.

      'why should he be rested?' If he is, it would be because Conte is cautious before the FA cup final. The league position won't change and playing Hazard will only put him at risk of an injury. In the same situation as Conte, I would play a seconds/youth team. I believe he did this previously with Juvtenus in the last couple of matches of the season and we know from last week that Conte doesn't mind resting players. Mourinho has said he's resting almost everyone and bringing in players who have never played for the senior team before.

    Haz --> Cout
    Haz and Benteke --> Cout and Jesus (Would cost -4)

    6300 overall if that matters. Aiming to both protect mostly, but also catch a 20 point lead to get the 1k money instead of just 500 quid.. Thinking of capping Cout if I bring him in as a small punt.

    Morning!

    Caballero Pickford
    Alonso Vert Monreal Stephens
    Hazard Sanchez Sane Albrighton JWP
    Kane Jesus Gabbi

    1 FT 0.1 ITB

    Got a 20 point lead in my cash league.

    Thinking of doing Haz and Gabbi => Coutinho and Giroud for a hit.

    Rival has Costa and KdB who I worry a little bit about.

    Also reckon I'll just bench JWP and play Vert instead and leave the AOA chip unused.

    Any comments or tips?

    Please choose one transfer:

    A. Hazard -> KDB
    B. Hazard -> Coutinho
    C. Alli -> Coutinho

    My other MID are Sanchez & Eriksen.

    Thx you.

    willian (SUN) or tekkers (mun)?

    Willy : motivation to show his ability, playing SUN at home, seems to play very well with fabregas, not in conte's 1st eleven...

    tekkers : playing vs ManU youth
