Crabtree Clinches FPL Crown

In yet another tense final day, Ben Crabtree has been crowned the Fantasy Premier League champion for 2016/17.

Nestled in the top ten since Gameweek 28, Ben – who made just a single four-point hit in the final 11 Gameweeks –
claimed top spot for the first time in the very final round of fixtures.

Trailing Uwais Ahmed by two points heading into today’s deadline, Ben went ahead before kick-off following Uwais’ four-point transfer hit.

That saw Liverpool pair Adam Lallana and Philippe Coutinho swapped in for Spurs’ Dele Alli and Leroy Sane of Manchester City – trades that would eventually prove decisive in the battle at the top.

Ben – with two free transfers – made equally radical transfer moves, shifting out Eden Hazard and Victor Anichebe for Bournemouth’s Junior Stanislas and Chelsea’s Diego Costa.

Starting on Ben’s bench, the Cherries midfielder was the makeweight for the gutsy signing of Costa, although, on the day, it was Stanislas who was to prove the unlikely hero.

He scored the opening goal of the day and, with Josh King in Ben’s starting XI but missing out through injury, those points from the bench helped him extend an early lead.

The Stanislas strike, together with assists from Christian Eriksen and Leroy Sane, saw Ben seize a 12-point advantage heading into half-time.

While Uwais quickly countered with early second-half goals from his signings Lallana and Coutinho, Ben edged further ahead with an assist from his own Gameweek 38 capture, Costa.

The tide looked to be turning back in Uwais’ favour when Cesc Fabregas produced one of two assists in the second period. However, Ben Davies’ strike for Spurs on 84 minutes in their 7-1 rout of Hull City was to deal the killer blow.

While Uwais edged the bonus points on the final whistle, the two awarded to Stanislas on Ben’s bench, introduced as the auto-sub for King, were to take him to a final tally of 97. That surpassed Uwais final tally by three points on the day, and by a five-point margin in the overall ranks.

A proven FPL manager of some pedigree, Ben bettered his previous best rank of 353rd back in the 2011/12 season to become the FPL’s latest champion.

Huge congratulations go to Ben from all at Fantasy Football Scout, and also to Uwais who fought a valiant battle to give us a dramatic final day.

Elsewhere, Bibek Thapa from Nepal stormed to a 99 – 68 victory over Polish manager Peter B to claim the FPL cup.

Many congratulations go to Bibek.

We will have further post-season coverage coming up in the next 24-hours, as we round up the winners of this season’s Scout Leagues and Cups.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

GW33: Kane starts his first game after injury. On 19 goals. Lukaku on 23 goals.

GW38: Kane finishes the season on 29 goals, 4 clear of Lukaku.

Maybe with no summer tournament it will be different? In 2015 he had the U21 Euros, last year senior Euros. Full rest for him this time around.

Burnout is underestimated in sports. I don't think it is a coincidence England always fail in major competitions. Look at the structure of English football, it's non-stop between August-May, August-June for the NT players. It's both mentally and psychically draining. A mid-season break is essential imo.

Yeah I was 598th overall. I dropped away fairly heavily in Sportsdeck. I enjoyed it but I have found keeping all the balls in the air this season quite hard work and I think it has hindered my FPL.

So I think I will drop Sportsdeck next year. The Sky planning was interesting though I can do better at it I am sure. This was my first season

Completely off topic but i'd like to ask it whilst we still have some posters on before recess (apologies to the mods)

Just posted this on my FB site.

"Sammy has started his GCSE'S and has two tomorrow, English and Geography...WHY ?

Why the hell do we in this country Insist on cramming together all the kids exams into a really short period of time. IT'S PIGGIN STUPID !!. One GCSE a month is the right amount for our kids to cope with and what's more it will...and I guarantee you this...lead to higher grades for the kids if we spread them out to a reasonable level. Eleven exams in three weeks is just daft. Show me one single adult anywhere who would think that was a reasonable demand of them and then ask yourself why the hell do we think it's ok to do it to our kids."

So a question from me to some of our younger posters around the globe.

Do you take so many exams crammed into such a short space of time as 16 year olds...and if not what sort of time frame do you get ?

Why the hell do they insist on doing that. Can they not see how much pressure it puts on young kids and that it can only mean they do less well than they might have if they spread them out.

To me it's the single biggest flaw in the exam system and grades by miles and miles..

Leaving Cert (Irish A-Levels) were crazy. I think continuous assessment is the way forward. Keeps students on their toes the whole year round rather than panicking for a short, but intense burst. I think students would be more motivated to study than they are for these short time frames after a long period of not having to study.

Same in Ireland in school, and same for the college exams I've recently finished. I really doubt it's anywhere different anywhere else in the world - it's a matter of timetabling really. The teaching period for all subjects ends at the same time almost anywhere, and the exams can't be held before the teaching ends.

Some schools in this country let students take a couple of exams a year earlier by loading their schooling towards them. There's no difference in grades even though they take them a year early. The reason being they can do intensive study and revision aimed at just one or two subjects.

I have semester based subjects. Each semester consists of 6 subjects.

At the moment i have my end semester exams going on, and have an exam every 6th or 7th day. Earlier it used to be 6 days 6 exam and boom many used to get low grades and even some used to fail.

6-7 days for a subject at my level is too much i feel. 3-4 days between each subject is perfect gap . Lets you be mentally ready and fresh to prepare for the next one .

I maybe wrong, correct me if i am, it also is different to parent to parent. Some parents want their child to win the race, to be ahead of let's say X's son. This puts a lot of pressure on the child and usually doesn't end well. Sadly education is becoming one race and getting good grades is the price

It's far less about learning a subject and much more about regurgitating information under intense pressure. I think that it's not just the frequency of exams that's flawed its the system of examination itself. We teach kids how to pass exams, (whilst putting them under a great amount of stress) but not much more.

I'm glad you agree, though I have no qualms with theoretical or arts subjects, only the method of quantifying aptitude. I've done well academically because I learned how to jump through the hoops in the right way, but the moment I stepped out of an exam (sometimes with only a couple hours before the next) almost all I learned for that exam was lost. I find it scary how little knowledge I've retained from my respective courses.

I suppose it was partly my own fault because I was taking extra modules - but at A-Level I'd have not only multiple exams scheduled on the same day but actually scheduled for the same time, in my final year this happened on three occasions! It's not like these were different exam boards and different subjects... this is the same subject with exactly the same board! I'd have to do one and then be escorted out separately to do the other straight after. Clashes don't just happen at GCSE level, they are even crammed together at Uni 🙁

It's all a bit mad Lawro...but it's never been challenged as to why..well not as far as I can see.

It seems to be done for the convenience of the exam boards and schools/uni and not the welfare or grades of the kids.

Generally the course i am doing takes 4 minimum years to complete. But his parents want him to complete it in 2-3 years. Every semester he gives 3-4 more exams than the regular ones just to finish uni a year earlier..

I typed a reply but it got moderated ffs, this place has no chill

I coped pretty well with my A-Levels as I was quite prepared but I did have 4 entrance type exams the following week that I didn't do amazingly in. I really kind of gave up on them, I was just burned out at that point I think... I recall just binge watching Game of Thrones instead of studying. I'll always put in the maximum amount effort that'll keep me sane - which isn't the cliched 100%, more like 60-70% 😉

Speaking of busy schedules I have 4 exams in the next 6 days including one in less than 9hrs...

Well done to him. I have three sons. One is very academic and does well, the youngest is just a run of the mill ordinary sort of student. It's those type that suffer with this mad cramming of exams. I feel sorry for them, it's too much.

I totally understand. M we have one of each. The arty one does get stressed and I think my lad gets stressed inwardly, which is possibly worse as we don't always know when try and support the best we can. Best of luck to yours. Treat em afterwards and put it all in context. Not everyone has to sit the same life exam is what's important to understand.

The school system could do with a complete overhaul, but no government would risk doing it in the current climate unfortunately.

That's the way the world works.

If you do a degree three modules will be squeezed into a semester with pot luck as to the time that in between.

If you do the work your grand.

Plenty don't and everything is then is an excuse.

If it makes anybody feel better I lost my mini-league because the person I drew on overall points with had made less transfers than me!

Punished for being brave and absorbing hits!!

....and it should be team value that decides it!!

I'm not bitter though! honestly! 😉

Less transfers is a joke, so many better ways to decide. Most points on bench, most goals, best team value etc

Team value is as biased towards taking risks as fewest transfers is against it. Most points on bench seems like the fairest way IMHO as it judges overall squad performance.

Ohhh mate that suck ballz big time.
I'm not sure we should be rewarded for taking hits or having a higher team value.
Thing is high TV in itself is an advantage so why double reward it??
Still I'm sorry you lost that way
It least it wasn't 26 wankiminute Terry. What a douch!!

Keeping up with price changes and building team value takes more effort so should be rewarded if anything imo.

We had the same bench points too so that wouldn't have settled it unfortunately.

            Xhaka, Holgate = 3

            Morrow, Davies = 3

My other sub was Josh King that I got for a 4pt hit which is probably where I went wrong.

That and getting Pedro'd in the last minute!

King could have been MY Pedro ahhhhhhhh!!!!!

Cheers though guys I appreciate the replies 🙂

My best buddy got pedro'd too. That was tough as if I had realised king was krocked I could of warned him to take a hit for fab or Pedro.
Much of an anticlimax I'm afraid.

I do agree that it's a hard pill to swallow. I'm sure the fantasy gods will Leominster you next time.

Heard the King news before deadline but had already done a 8pt hit! Was replaced with 2pt Luiz 🙁

Brought in Lovren & Matip as well plus I already had Mignolet.

All I needed was 1 bonus point from any of those three but they all went to the goalscorers.

Would have won if Costa never got booked too.

Would have won if Pedro never got that 1 bonus point.

                That's FPL for you tho!

You gotta take the ups with the downs!

Don't think so. There will be a lot more premium players next season. Eriksen, Alli, Jesus, Mane, Coutinho will all be part of the 9.5+ bracket. So I don't think they'll push the premium strikers above 12.5.

The fact I finished inside the top 10K without them is nothing short of a miracle.

Top 10k or better. 75 points off 10k this year, and had started the year terribly and with a last-minute rubbish team (think I had Hart and Robinson in goal for first 3 weeks as was on holiday with no internet for 2 weeks!)

"David Moyes reveals #SAFC agree to put the ball out in the 26th minute so John Terry could have his send off."

Yoshida & Davies both brought in on GW30 Wildcard and were fantastic.

There was a lot of debate at the time about saving Wildcards etc but it turns out it was 100% the right decision for me. Only had one red arrow from then until the end of the season and finished top 20k.

We're the total points scored higher than usual this season?

I scored more than ever but not my highest rank

                    3rd best season then.
                    12/13 was my shocker.

                  That's what I'm talking about.
I had a very high scoring season with Suarez.
That was the first time I got into the 10k club 2k I think I did. Very boring, just captained Suarez 90% of the time.

Chips are free points compared to the past. 1 WC made the game harder if you started poorly.

My highest season was 2400 and something points, mostly capping Suarez. I finished mid 2k

I've never screenshotted my GW history before, I won't make that mistake this year. I'd love to be able to look back at my past seasons

Rather than screenshot I'm just gonna right a review/report type thing of where I went wrong and how I can improve.

Yes saying get King won't help much.

But basically spot trends quicker, get ahead of the curve, be braver on transfers. Don't lose players you will regret. Don't put too emphasis on DGW over SGW especially in the smaller doubles. Identify why certain players do better on one flank than team mate on other, very important in wing back era. Identify change in style and tactics quicker. Identify why player output has suddenly increased or decreased.

Basic stuff I know but when you read the frenzied plans on here you can get sucked in and lose perspective.
