Technical Area – The Man City Midfield

Through the first two months of the season, no side has scored more frequently than Manchester City.

In their second season under Pep Guardiola’s tutelage, City have averaged more than three goals per match to open this campaign and already look to be mounting the strongest title challenge on show.

With Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus as options in attack, we are blessed with two obvious routes to investment. However, reading Pep Guardiola’s intentions with the pair remains a test, made all the more difficult by the news of Aguero’s return to light training following his rib injury.

Just as Gabriel Jesus seemed cemented in the central attacking role, suddenly Aguero’s return seems more imminent, casting further doubts on the likely minutes of the pair over forthcoming Gameweeks.

So, instead, our attentions are drawn to City’s midfield in an effort to achieve coverage of this potent attacking unit while we wait for the striker situation to resolve.

In this article, we’ll be running the rule over three mid-priced Manchester City midfield options – David Silva, Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling – alongside the more expensive Kevin De Bruyne, in an effort to ascertain where best to seek value from this side over the coming Gameweeks.

Question of the day : -

will i regret picking Pedro over sterling for the coming GWs? Plan to sell miki for pedro.

    a) Pedro ( differential )
    b) sterling ( play safe )

It depends what your definition of differential means. On here it seems like everyone has Sterling in their team, however his FPL ownership is 6.3%, anything under 10% is a differential for me.

I've gone with Sterling and Hazard. I have concerns how Chelsea's attackers will do without Moratta, however I think that Hazard is capable of doing more by himself than Pedro is.

The thing that shows club football isn't as competitive as it should be (due to rules allowing a handful of teams to own all the top players) is Messi and Ronaldo goal rates

In club game, both have a goal a game rates for years now.
    In international, they're about 1 in 2.
Modern club game (especially la liga) needs sorting out

    1. ★Kuntheman★

ronaldo and messi play with the same players all year round, developing an understanidng. not to mention they're superior to their team mates that play for arg and portugal

if ronaldo played in la liga with the portugese side he would have nowhere near the same goal game ratio

      1. Sánchez
        • 11 Years
        6 years, 6 months ago

        That's what i mean.
They let 4 into CL giving them unlimited funds and appeal.
They remove 3 foreigners rule meaning big clubs have no reason not to sign all the best players.
        Result is competitiveness suffers.
Instead of Messi in one side, Suarez in another, Neymar in a third like S.American qualifiers, they just team up together to beat rubbish

yep... 200 odd national teams and some are garbage... how many pro local teams are there? most of them are garbage...

there are more crap teams to come up against locally than internationally, even if there are restrictions the talent is so diluted that it wouldn't make much difference.. internationals are best of the best.

You go and make Madrid 'weaker' just means messi scores more goals against them anyway

Had a goal and assist in 2 international games too, not like his mojo is broken...

Just the United fixtures I'm worrying about, his form is fine but one thing that does stick in my mind is him scoring vs Spurs last season and the fact he scored a ton of goals on the counter in the Europa league also last season.

Honduras qualify without a playoff while Chile don't even make a playoff. They really need to cut a CONCACAF qualification place and add a CONMEBOL place?

You might as well get the top 32 in the rankings then.

Terrible idea, teams manipulate the rankings by not playing friendlies. No way Wales and Switzerland would be that high otherwise

Taking the armband off Jesus. Quick poll please gents:
    A. Lukaku (liv)
    B. Vardy (WBA)
    C. Eriksen (BOU)
    D. Leave it on Jesus for crying out loud, he has just scored a brace, he's young, and we can trust Pep won't play Sterling as a false 9.

      D.

People need to relax with the Brazil flight and Jesus playing a lot, he's young and has already been well rested during the start of the PL.

US has been awful for a while...I'm glad they didn't qualify this WC, spares the embarrassment of getting trounced by real competition.
