From the Physio – Gameweek 15

Reports emanating from Goodison Park this week could well serve as the final tree shake for frustrated owners of Leighton Baines. David Moyes, in his post-match press conference following the battling comeback against Arsenal, suggested that the Toffee’s talismanic left-back had sustained a hamstring injury…

“I think Leighton Baines has got a bit of a hamstring injury. He felt it in the game and he played on for the last 10 or 15 minutes.”

Taking a look at the first 30 minutes of the second half in isolation, we witness Baines involved throughout, his marauding forays down the wing allied to a burgeoning vision and awareness established an assuredness in the versatile fullback that allowed him to orchestrate the left channel at will. The George Harrison, 70’s style ‘Movember Tash’ that Baine’s can be seen sporting, seemingly not putting him off in the slightest.

During this initial period in the half, we witness Baines moving with fluid ease and agility, performing football specific, high intensity movements that test the integrity of the hip and knee joints fully, actions that would isolate any injuries and from a physio perspective, there were no visible injury indicators.

A subsequent observational kinesthetic analysis of the final 15 minutes of the match adds further credibility to the initial assessment. Here, again, we witness the England International performing a full array of high intensity movements around the hip and knee and joints, leaping, tackling, taking corners and uni-lateral movements including accelerating and decelerating whilst changing direction. These are important indicators as they are some of the most mechanically demanding match actions and broken down form part of a battery of tests utilised to confirm match fitness.

The intensity and range of actions Baine’s exhibits in the last 15 minutes plus injury time mirrored that of the first 30 minutes, again, without reaction, impediment or abnormal gait patterns evident. Additionally, Hamstring muscles usually injure by either a forceful contraction or a direct blow and the full-back appeared to navigate the half without any significant incidents of note, indeed, David Moyes still had a substitution to use if an injury was feared.

In summary, I suspect that Baine’s felt some soreness or tightness as the match closed out, indicating a very minor muscle injury that treated immediately and nursed subsequently should well resolve within 7 days and although the Manchester City match this weekend is a possibility, it perhaps comes too soon, indicating December 9 when the Toffee’s entertain Tottenham as the most likely return date.

I'm very worried about not giving RVP the armband. I also have triple pool so captaining Suarez is effectively like going quadruple pool.

Should I transfer out Mata for a hit?

Reasons for: RAFAtation, poor form (1assist in 5 games), poor fixtures up until a blank and playing in team under a new defensive manager
Reasons against: Good fixtures after blank, still a good FPL player and not many good options

If I do ship him out, who should I get? (Already have Bale, Fellaini, Sess and Puncheon)
    Thinking Walcott or Morrison...

    Regarding Enrique:

Has no one else thought that with Lucas back Liverpool could line up with a variation of 4-4-1-1 with Gerard pushed up with Suarez.

If that were to happen then both Enrique and sterling potential would take somewhat if a drop especially as Enrique would be put back in defence.

After downings comical attempt at marking Lennon last game it must surely be rattling through the managers mind that downing ain't gonna cut it at left back either.

I think we might just see a change for Southampton.

Remember press conference after the first game?

Rodgers said he like playing 1 - 2 in midfield, but because we didn't have the right personnel he had to bring Allen back and play 2 - 1.

Once Lucas is back, Allen will be able to play further forward with Gerrard.

Obviously, I hope it's more fluid than that, but younger the idea.

Again though, that's skewed by the Swansea game, where Enrique had to drop to LB. We're expecting that Wisdom will be back to free him from that role.

      Last 4 games:

      GJ: 7, 5
      JE: 8, 5

      Swansea game only:

      GJ: 4,4
      JE: 2,1

Almost all GJ's recent shots came in the Swansea game. Of course, this highlights the fact that at LB, Enrique is worthless to us. If he continues to drop back there then he's out. But Wisdom is back and there's no reason at all to believe that Enrique is preferred to Wisdom at LB - Downing is preferred to Enrique at LB for crying out loud!

He probably will steal his striker spot back and Enrique will be out. But last I heard it was going to be well into the new year. Loads of time to rack up some OOP Enrique points.

Sorry, yes. But the point stands. With Wisdom and Johnson fit, Enrique gets no time in defence. Whether he keeps the forward position is a different matter but he certainly won't return to defensive duties if Rodgers has a choice.

I fully agree that GJ is the better player. But I'm taking a punt on Enrique getting some more time as a forward. If he does then he has a big chance of some big points. If he doesn't, he's out!

Looking at exactly the same transfers Jonty. It leaves me with 4.5 million in bank. The options I have is to replace a cheapie with Enrique and keep Baines, but it seems too much in defence. Alternatively upgrade Sterling to Walcott and keep Mata, but I dont want to lose Sterling. Not sure getting rid of Mata is the right thing just yet, so havent pressed the button on it. Still trying to weigh up the odds.

Its keeping Mata one more week that's vexing me...but long term he has to leave due to the Benitez regime. Three goal attempts in two games is pitiful for a team like Chelsea.

It was like my Tevez move the other week, hurt to miss out on his pts, but long term I didn't want a rotation threat and the move has been justified.

Another issues is whether I really want Suarez. I feel he's a must, but surely Enrique and Sterling more than covers the goal threat...for every goal there's an assist.

People on here are very fickle.

Mata is suddenly sh*t and not worth his weight in salt.
Walcott is player of the year
Suarez, despite not scoring over 2 games...is a must have because he's going to score more than anyone in the universe ever for 10 weeks straight...(once you get him in for an 8 point hit tonight before the rise)
Enrique is now a guaranteed goalscorer despite scoring one goal in his career.

problem with mata is not his quality, it is the negative tactics of the team which is stopping him from flourishing. 3 shots on target in 2 home games is enough for anyone to think about taking out a chelsea creative player.

Also mata may have great class but you can't continue good form if you are played then rested the next game then play a bit the next game after that. It's near enough impossible, you need to have a good run of games.

Mata is not suddenly shit. Mata has a new manager and Chelsea have a blank soon coupled with 2 very important CL games. Cue rotation.

Walcott is not the player of the year. He's a cheaper alternative to Santi for non owners.

Suarez is the top scorer in the league.

Enrique is potentially OOP x 2.

It's not well said at all. This guy is a complete bore. I've only realised it this morning after reading his 100,000th boring post.

Mata is great, his manager isn't. That devalues him markedly.

No one outs saying Mata is sh1t, the manager is simply changing the way he plays. This is having a negative impact on the team and ultimately Mata, simply by the fact that be dropped him and will continue to rotate him.

Southampton away from home have conceded the most goals in the league.

Sterling looks good too. He's only scored double digits twice, but both times were at home against weak opposition.

The question is, who is more secure; Rio or Evans?

I think his return means that you have to get rid of Evans.

Really? I think it's a tough one... I've been more impressed with Evans than Rio this season but that said, I haven't seen as much of Man Utd as you probably have.

It's tough, very tough. I still think Fergie would want to pair Rio and Vidic again while he can. That partnership will expire this season I think. May as well give it a good send off.

Not the same player anymore, lots of players struggle after long-term injuries.

Cheers. Yeah almost certain to play cuellar. Fellani/sterling is buggin me though. Fellani obviously more goal threat but last time I benched sterling at home against easy opposition, he bagged 2 assists.
