FFS UEFA Beach Soccer Tournament 2013

Gameweek 8 sees the launch of the latest team competition for the Fantasy Football Scout community organised by FFS UEFA. Following the success of last season’s ICC-themed cricket tournament, the group have created FFS Beach Soccer World Cup 2013, with 16 teams, each comprised of 11 players, competing for the crown.

If you’re new to the concept and are wondering just what all the chatter has been about, here’s a link to their site which will help explain matters in a little more detail.

Essentially, the scoring is based around the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game.

Each team started scouting for players (ie, FPL managers) on Sunday, October 6 and the recruitment period will come to a close on Wednesday, October 16, with the roster of team players announced on Thursday, October 17.

The teams are led by a captain and vice-captain and guided by a manager, who decide which seven of their 11 players to field each week – depending on the perceived prospects of their FPL line-ups -and which four to bench. Their overall FPL scores for the Gameweek, with hits taken into account, will form the team’s score that week – by outscoring their opponents, they chalk up a win.

The first match in Gameweek 8 will be no more than a friendly before the main event gets underway the following weekend. This sees the 16 teams compete in four groups of four between Gameweek 9 and 11 – the top two teams from each group will progress to the knockout stages, where sides square up in a head-to-head elimination process from Gameweek 12 until the final in Gameweek 15. Sorry for the repost, but I put too much work in the interview to have it lost at the end of an old thread. 🙁

Thanks to the Council for running this Competition. Netherlands gave it our best shot and in a closely fought group, but sadly it was not quite enough. Still, we've had a blast playing and made some new friends through it all.

Good luck to those still involved - especially Solomon Islands and El Salvador, who got through our group - I hope one of you can win it!!

i just got email from daniel talking about tahiti tactics dated 4th october!!!!
how slow is server in tahiti?
in an exclusive segment of my upcoming autobiography, walking in the pawsteps of camels.

....the email arrived asking for us all to vote on our last two recruits, bemba, breadbin or guy in last place who hasnt played his team since week one. I of course voted for the joy that is bemba like everyone else. So we all got a second vote and it came down to a deadlock vote from the captain, who chose breadbin over guy who is probably in coma now. Captains reason was he felt it would be hard for coma guy to take the mandatory triple hit required, plus ex coma guy who has died and is buried now didnt have michu. In hindsight ex coma guy who is dead and is buried now but i dug him back up for the bones scored better than breadbin. Think we have all learned a lesson here....

With much excitement and fanfare the gods of fantasy football announced the latest instalment of random and in no real way connected UEFA council events. The FFS Beach Soccer World Cup 2013.
After the marketing department recovered from the joy of having such a catchy title to work with we agreed for the benefit of this article and to reduce the amount of time I am wasting at work , to call it the BSWC.
The excitement to be part of this event amongst the scouts was the equivalent to Justin Bieber making a personal appearance at Chu’s house. Pretty soon it resembled the time the porn star decided to beat the world record and invited as many strangers as possible to join the queue. We formed a line of men who had no chance of being selected in real life but were happy to participate in this method.
This deluge of request proved almost impossible for the team managers to cope with, well those ones who hadn’t pre-selected their teams that is. How to narrow it down became a problem, do we base it on past history, do we look at their current position or their performance in the previous weeks, do we ask them conduct an interview and ask them what their plans are during the tourney, or do we just see who can drink the most and end up picking our friends anyway.
Of course this process didn’t come without its controversy, were people being bribed to join? , did some mangers contact players before official start date? , were people head hunting players who weren’t even interested and didn’t even know FFS existed? , did i mention contacting players before start date? Where people joining teams to find out tactics whilst knowing they would leave for another team? Have i forgotten my grammar during this paragraph? And of course who can forget the Holloway style recruitment from Tahiti, where Thomass was to recruitment what Roy Hodgson was to motivational speaking.

  After all the dust had settled and the teams had been selected and poor Sanka was only person in the world who didn’t get offered a place the official squads were announced, until Sporting resigned that was, and then the official squads were announced, well until JTD left Tahiti (that’s me by the way), and then the official squads were announced, what? Spain still to type up their team.... Ok talk amongst yourself............
  Still there?...... Did you hear the one about the pirate the monkey and the bridesmaid, well... oh hang on and then the official squads were announced.
  Much merriment was had amongst the group rivals as well as much boasting and cock measuring claims, particularly from Forca, but then what’ s new.
  In order to prepare for the actual tourney a weekend of friendly games were announced.
  The arab rising friendly iran v UAE
  The zulu friendly senegoal v ivory coast
  The conquistador friendly spain v el Salvador
  The not part of a mainland friendly Tahiti v Solomon
  The very unfriendly friendly Ukraine v Russia
  The north americanish friendly Argentina v USA
  The neighbours friendly Brazil v Paraguay
  The sometimes they go to each other on holiday friendly japan v Holland
  These friendy games gave the managers and players an early opportunity to perfect their in game slating of each other only to quickly realise that despite having the aid of Pratiks wonderful in game score calculating type thing , they still managed to get it wrong and claimed victories when non existed.

Have all forgotten to pressers for the KO rounds of the BSWC???

Has the International break killed off the Sun,Sea, Sand & Sex on offer at the Beach.....surely not us Spanish have not stopped our celebrations through the International break and the squad is quite sore, a lot of chaffing as making love on the beach, whilst romantic is much like masterbating with a cheese grater!!

Any way after careful consideration the squad has been whittled to a starting 7 in a 1-5-1 formation:

Benched stars are: MSred 0 Teddy - Andy Wait & Toonzie all of which are bitterly disappointed, and have refused to give up their sun loungers to the opposition as they intend to support their team mates completely naked albeit painted as the Spanish Flag.

Tickets are like hot cakes......dont miss out on this festival of fun.
