Our weekly analysis of the Captaincy contenders arrives once again this Thursday evening. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.
The Captain Poll
This week’s Captain Poll is a two-way tussle for our attentions between Diego Costa and Sergio Aguero. With 41% of the votes cast so far, the Chelsea striker slightly edges it ahead of a home encounter against West Brom – he’s scored six times in five appearances at the Bridge, failing to net just once, and faces a defence that has conceded twice in all but one of the last five Gameweeks.
Aguero has been selected by 38% as Man City prepare for the visit of Swansea. The Argentine has failed to score in two of five appearances in front of his own fans this term, though with nine goals and 57 points in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game in the last six, he’s the man in form. The Swans have been decent on their travels at the back, though, earning a clean sheet in two of their last three away matches.
Eden Hazard and Alexis Sanchez could be real differential armband options for the Gameweek ahead. The Chelsea midfielder is seeking his third straight double-figure haul at the Bridge, whilst six goals in his last four underline Sanchez’s form as United’s patched-up rearguard limp into the Emirates.
The avalanche of votes for Costa and Aguero leaves little interest elsewhere. Cesc Fabregas has mustered 1% of votes – mirrored by Southampton’s Graziano Pelle for Monday evening’s trip to Villa. The Italian has failed to score in his last three now, but with the Midlands outfit sweating on the fitness of a number of defenders, Pelle’s owners will be giving him one last chance before the fixtures turn nasty. There’s no doubt he’s better in front of his own fans, though – the summer signing has mustered just one goal and a single assist on the road compared to five goals and three assists at St Mary’s.
