The Weekend Team News

Arsene Wenger rules out Mathieu Debuchy for three months. Kieran Trippier is expected to shake off a hamstring problem for Burnley. Erik Pieters remains a doubt for Stoke, James McArthur has been passed fit for Palace, whilst Raheem Sterling is set to return for Liverpool this weekend.

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Mathieu Debuchy will be sidelined for up to three months after undergoing surgery on his dislocated shoulder. Mikel Arteta will also be out of action for three months, having successfully undergone ankle surgery. Elsewhere, Wenger has ruled out Danny Welbeck for the Etihad clash, while Kieran Gibbs will be monitored after returning to training later today.

Kieran Tripper was withdrawn with a tight hamstring in Wednesday evening’s cup tie against Spurs Sean Dyche alleviated any concerns by suggesting that the defender should be fit for the weekend. The Clarets are hopeful on club captain Jason Shackell, who missed the cup defeat to Spurs with a calf complaint.

Nigel Pearson could again be without Esteban Cambiasso for the visit of Stoke, with the midfielder yet to fully train following injury. Danny Drinkwater is in contention for the weekend, while Pearson has suggested that fellow midfielder Dean Hammond is a “unlikely to be available” for the Potters clash. The Foxes boss is also hopeful that the paperwork will be completed in time to allow new signing Andrej Kramaric to figure at the weekend.

Gaston Ramirez and Sone Aluko are both set to train today ahead of Hull’s trip to Upton Park. Steve Bruce is set for a reshuffle up front, though, with Nikica Jelavic and Abel Hernandez both ruled out for up to six weeks.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Raheem Sterling is available for selection once again, following the youngster’s short mid-season break. Rodgers has also gone on to reveal that Adam Lallana is ahead of schedule on his comeback from a thigh problem and will be monitored along with Steven Gerrard and Glen Johnson. Daniel Sturridge though, remains sidelined for the Aston Villa trip.

Mark Hughes is optimistic that Steven Nzonzi will be fit to face Leicester, though the Potters boss is sweating on the fitness of Erik Pieters, after the pair were withdrawn at the break in the loss to Arsenal. Furthermore, Victor Moses returned to the squad against the Gunners after recovering from injury, and Hughes has suggested that the winger now “looks sharp and is ready to go.”

Joe Cole could be set to miss the meeting with ex-club Liverpool at the weekend, after picking up a hamstring injury at Leicester. In more positive news, Nathan Baker is expected to return to the squad after injury, with Villa also welcoming back Fabian Delph from suspension.

Ahead of Palace’s trip to Burnley, Alan Pardew has revealed that James McArthur has recovered from the foot problem that forced him off in the win over Spurs last week.

Winston Reid and Guy Demel have both returned to light training and “have a chance” of making Sunday’s home clash with Hull, according to Sam Allardyce earlier this morning.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

Best one week punt on a defender? Not really convinced by anyone.

A: Cresswell (HUL) - Team just played 120 mins a couple of days ago
B: Vertonghen (SUN) - Spurs generally can't defend
C: Shawcross (lei) - Again, not been great defensively
D: Jones (qpr) - QPR quite decent at home
E: Clyne (new) - Would be a double up as I have Forster and NEW looked good against Chelsea.

Has to be Cresswell from that list, for one week only. Or Tomkins for goal threat, perhaps.

Cheers lads, just a bit worried by the 120 mins played. Team doesn't seem to have any issues and I'm ignoring Kun til GW 24 so think it's a 1 week punt on Cresswell, followed by a switch to Kosc next week.

He's not a threat at all though, minutes are always in question. Cresswell is probably the most sensible option.

Really like it. Very similar to mine. I've gone for ADM over Fabregas and gone for 3 rotating defenders rather than doubling up on Sounthampton. Looks really strong and has a good balance so as not to need too many transfers over the coming weeks 🙂

Which one of these pair to consider for my WC:

    a) Sanchez + Downing (or, Johnson)
    b) Cazorla (or, Sterling) + Silva (or, AdM)

Considering points for the last 10 matches that they started, Sanchez + Downing fetched 103 points, while Cazorla + Silva fetched 127 points. So, I was thinking I could gain some 20-30 points over Sanchez-teams if I could get in the right combination. What do you reckon?

    1. Wayne di Persie

"If I could get in the right combination" - That's what the game's about.
However, I personally would stay clear of Cazorla with Ozil returning to fitness

I've had Courtois and Hart at different times in the first half of the season, and it's hugely frustrating when they don't keep a CS and the cheapie goalkeepers do or outscore them because of saves. Forster is a great pick, but I think Foster + Myhill at only 8.6m is the stand out choice, saving 0.9m on their price now.

Thoughts on Filipe Luis. Does Mourinho not rate him now he's seen him up close and personal? He suits attacking raids down the left so should help Chelsea going forward.

I'd pick him on my WC with Chambers as an easy escape plan if I knew he was going to get a run of games.

Seems he uses him when need more attacking runs from defence.
So best time to bring him in is when they are 1-0 down with 20 min to go

There haven't been many price rises. Bertrand, Forster, Wasilewski after Aguero and ADM rose last weekend. Probably a couple of others.

    Any news on RVP?

Really wanted to pull the trigger on Roon > Kun, but i RVP is out I fear Roon may be pushed up top.

Duff won't play. Keane has his spot, I believe.

That was the worst week ever. Had 3 city, 2 everton and 2 palace. Dropped from 10k to 70k. Ended up with 9 points
