The Weekend Team News

Arsene Wenger rules out Mathieu Debuchy for three months. Kieran Trippier is expected to shake off a hamstring problem for Burnley. Erik Pieters remains a doubt for Stoke, James McArthur has been passed fit for Palace, whilst Raheem Sterling is set to return for Liverpool this weekend.

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Mathieu Debuchy will be sidelined for up to three months after undergoing surgery on his dislocated shoulder. Mikel Arteta will also be out of action for three months, having successfully undergone ankle surgery. Elsewhere, Wenger has ruled out Danny Welbeck for the Etihad clash, while Kieran Gibbs will be monitored after returning to training later today.

Kieran Tripper was withdrawn with a tight hamstring in Wednesday evening’s cup tie against Spurs Sean Dyche alleviated any concerns by suggesting that the defender should be fit for the weekend. The Clarets are hopeful on club captain Jason Shackell, who missed the cup defeat to Spurs with a calf complaint.

Nigel Pearson could again be without Esteban Cambiasso for the visit of Stoke, with the midfielder yet to fully train following injury. Danny Drinkwater is in contention for the weekend, while Pearson has suggested that fellow midfielder Dean Hammond is a “unlikely to be available” for the Potters clash. The Foxes boss is also hopeful that the paperwork will be completed in time to allow new signing Andrej Kramaric to figure at the weekend.

Gaston Ramirez and Sone Aluko are both set to train today ahead of Hull’s trip to Upton Park. Steve Bruce is set for a reshuffle up front, though, with Nikica Jelavic and Abel Hernandez both ruled out for up to six weeks.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Raheem Sterling is available for selection once again, following the youngster’s short mid-season break. Rodgers has also gone on to reveal that Adam Lallana is ahead of schedule on his comeback from a thigh problem and will be monitored along with Steven Gerrard and Glen Johnson. Daniel Sturridge though, remains sidelined for the Aston Villa trip.

Mark Hughes is optimistic that Steven Nzonzi will be fit to face Leicester, though the Potters boss is sweating on the fitness of Erik Pieters, after the pair were withdrawn at the break in the loss to Arsenal. Furthermore, Victor Moses returned to the squad against the Gunners after recovering from injury, and Hughes has suggested that the winger now “looks sharp and is ready to go.”

Joe Cole could be set to miss the meeting with ex-club Liverpool at the weekend, after picking up a hamstring injury at Leicester. In more positive news, Nathan Baker is expected to return to the squad after injury, with Villa also welcoming back Fabian Delph from suspension.

Ahead of Palace’s trip to Burnley, Alan Pardew has revealed that James McArthur has recovered from the foot problem that forced him off in the win over Spurs last week.

Winston Reid and Guy Demel have both returned to light training and “have a chance” of making Sunday’s home clash with Hull, according to Sam Allardyce earlier this morning.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

Only thing holding me back on a United defender is we have been sloppy as of late, and Austin at home could provide some problems.. I also have Austin, so don't know whether I'd want him to score or for United to keep a cleanie 😉 was considering though!

    Aguero | Costa | Kane

Pretty much set on this WC team, besides the one defender. But which one? Options are:

Chief Iron Doos.. Or Captain Team News himself..

With Reid back in training, would you expect Tomkins or Collins to drop out? (That is who expect to drop out, not who you want to drop out Doos!)

I know Demel wouldn't threaten Jenks this weekend.

I think its very hard to call, the last game that they were all fit for, Allardyce played all three of them.

The usual first choice pairing is Tomkins and Reid, but Collins has been brilliant recently.

None of this helps making a choice 😆 , but personally I wouldn't bank on any one of them starting. If pushed, I would say Tomkins is the safest choice.

Not sure Reid will play this weekend - also don't think Sam minds him being out of the limelight with the transfer window well and truly open!

If Reid is fit, Collins will make way, not Tomkins

Current WC Draft. Thoughts would be much appreciated lads.

    Forster - Gilks
    Terry - Clyne - Bertrand - Wisdom - PVA
    Hazard - Fabregas - Sanchez - Downing - Boyd
    Aguero - Austin - Kane

    £1.2m in the bank.

Massive risk on the Souhampton triple up. The reason for this is that there are no stand out candidates for the 3rd playing Defender spot, £6.9m to spend.
    Or possibly worth downgrading Forster?

I'm fairly set on risking it for a couple of weeks. Plenty of money to rectify the situation if need be. Was just curious on others opinions. I can't see any obvious advantage to the rest of the team by downgrading.

The only time I may not consider Soton defense are GW's 29, 34 and 38.
Leicester fixtures for these GW's are Hull, Burnley, QPR.
They are also perfect rotation pairs, so I thought it would be a good combination at 9.0(Forster and Schmeichel).

      --- B --- in my opinion

Silva is staying in my team till end of season because he steps up and in the center of everything good that man city produces --- in hopes of claiming the league.

Pleasee any help with this decision would be appreciated
Not too sure about southampton defence now that a lot of their defensive key players are out. (Wanyama, Schneiderlin, Alderweireld)

    1)Panti, Heaton, Sterling, Clyne
    or
    2)Panti, Hamer, ADM, Trippier/Jones

I like B but I don't like Trippier/Jones. How much money do you have for that last spot?

For me there are two options this week. Not getting Kun in until post Chelsea match. Or getting him in now and making him captain.

Why? Because there is no other obvious stand out this week (Kane against the well drilled Sunderland? Give over) and when are you ever going to get the chance to captain a differential with this much potential. Kun could score 20 points against Arsenal. He is one of the few players in the game capable of doing that on ANY given week. If he’s in, for me, he has to be captain. Why get him in now if you’re not prepared to seize the day…

Why are people shipping Rooney before a plum tie against the worst defence in the league?

Because he a) could be playing CM and b) will be playing for the team with the worst formation in the league.

QPR aren't great but they really try to put it to the big teams, with that awful formation United might not smash them the way you think.

Thoughts please gents!! I have Bertrand on my WC and bought at 5.7. He is now 5.8. However, Mr Cresswell is absolutely screaming at me to put him in for this game and I am very tempted! Could sell Cresswell next week but would probably go Clyne/Fonte instead of Bertrand then.

Is there some form of plan in there, or would you ignore the one week Cresswell punt altogether? In a world of similar WC teams, trying to grab some form of differential, even if only for a week.

I have Downing at present as well if that influences.

West Ham have a good fixture in 27 as well, reluctant to get Chadli in as Spurs have loads of fixtures in next few weeks. Plus I’d have to ditch for 27 anyway.

I believe that your thinking is confused.

Buy your defence to last until 38, if possible.

      TOT: SUN 267 wba 228 ARS 18 liv -178 WHM 153 qpr 167 SWA 185 574 mun -119 LEI 293 bur 210 AVL 262

I would say that both Chadli and Kane are reasonable bets. I will get Rose too.
