With a single goal in his last six league appearances, Alexis Sanchez’s debut season in the Premier League seems in danger of grinding to a halt. After serving up 12 strikes and seven assists in the opening 21 Gameweeks, the Chilean’s displays made him a must-have for Fantasy managers but, in spite of Arsenal’s late surge up the table, his recent output has been minimal.

There’s no disputing the fact that Sanchez’ downturn has coincided with the return to action of Mesut Ozil. The German has started each of the last seven Gameweeks and managed two goals and five assists over that period, whilst Olivier Giroud has developed a source of consistency which has harvested six strikes and a trio of assists in his previous eight outings.

Despite his price of 11.4 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, Sanchez is still the third most popular midfielder – only Eden Hazard and Raheem Sterling currently sit in more sides. With some of his 30% ownership starting to scour the market for alternatives, we delve into the data to asses his displays over the two time frames in order to ascertain just what has gone wrong.

      For the DGW sure if Aguero keeps stuttering but dont exactly see any advantages to owning Costa over him at the minute. He's also not firing like Aguero, just as expensive, and could still get a suspension. Fixtures look decent though

        'Twas considering that Rick. Aguero could be a superfreak on Saturday morning. I don't know, though. City have been ghastly as of late. Yaya is a mess, which affects whole team. Only player who looked half decent against Barca was Hart. That game could have easily been 7-0. Not feeling it right now for any of the City players.

            Sterling is a weird one. Could easily get a goal or two against Man U. Might actually hold, if not for just one more week. I would probs get Wanyama out. Maybe for Matty Phillips, especially with a QPR double coming up.

      Costa has 10 remaining games vs Aguero 9. 10% more game time + 2 starter points (x2 if c).

      DGW 34 obvious (c) choice for Costa.

      Costa outscoring Aguero last few game weeks.

      Costa is main striker. Aguero now shares with Dzeko/Bony (no chance of November's sole striker explosiveness)

        Worry about the possible failure has blocked me from making what would have been a great move before, many a times. I often find I don't listen to my gut, only to get burned. That is the only thing that really frustrates me with this game. If I over analyze, that's it. Shite starts hitting the fan.

      Hes not a bad shout. The thing with any of the double GW31 mids is who will you drop in favour?

      If you have a mid with Sanchez, Silva, Mane, Ozil, Erik Hazard etc would you play Sincliar/N Zogbia/ Phillips etc over one of these? Dont think i would

        Hmm I hadn't though of that. I have got Ozil, Silva, Hazard Erik and..Theo at the moment. Guess I should just be sensible and bring in Mane for Theo but he burnt me right at the beginning of his time there!

      Nope. But if chasing your MLs, any of the DGW mids will be a strong differential.

      If the big guns fire this GW though....you're going to be very nervous benching any of them in 31.

          I'm just basing it completely on his performance against Chelsea - very good. Southampton played fantastic as well. Will be confident.

          I can see Burnley being a tad overconfident and overstretch themselves this game.

      Other than Costa I dont see any other replacement for Aguero, so thats my reason of holding him. Since start of the season, I have decided that 1 spot is for Kun and Costa. If I take out Kun, it'll be for Costa.

      Probably just Giroud > Benteke/Austin for me if I make a transfer.

      Just too few options like in GW28. But those 2 will be popular. Might just have to get one of them in to keep up. Definitely not getting more than 1 player. Single week players have good fixtures that week.

      The more i go round and around as a non-wc owner it keeps coming back to one decision. Costa or Ivan for the 33 and 34 to go with Terry and Haz? I feel there is no right answer to this. I was so set on Ivan but wavering to Costa now

      If i could decide on that (plus know ARS double is 34) i think i would be pretty set

    For the first time in ages we have a serious conundrum for Captain with 4 realistic choices between Kane, Aguero, Giroud and Hazard. Prob 90% will opt for the first two (including me to defend my league position) but genuinely the way Arsenal are playing and what Chelsea might do to Hull, anyone brave enough to go with the latter could make some headway on ML deficits.

        Indeed. Have Phillips which is enough, really don't see the value in adjusting team when people should be preparing for 34. Not to mention it clashes with some good fixtures for many of the main players during 31 and the run up to 34 I think there may be some short term gain but when looking back I highly doubt it will be worth while. It's often a habit I see on here where people only look at their DGW score and ignore the opportunity cost of the GWs after. a great example is Benteke who has Spurs, blank, Man City in the following 3 game weeks,

            Currently looking at Hazard. I think Chelsea are due a blow out victory soon as I imagine Mou has given them an earful after last few games. I really think we could see them turn over Hull by 4 goals so just hope my decision is not a week too late!

        I'm fairly confident that we will see a much greater variation in scores this week compared to the last few solely because not everyone will be in the same captain boat. The last few weeks have been tame as even in cases when the captain has blanked something like 90% have picked the same player so it makes no difference. This week looking at the captain poll if either of Aguero or Kane blanked and the other say got a brace we could easily see point variations of 25-30 points which in most leagues would b significant
