Metro Tips From The Scout

If you missed my star-studded debut – read: nervous – with Mark and Granville on the Scoutcast back in episode 37 (you can find the latest episode here) then you will also have missed out on a nugget of news that we feel deserves a sneaky mention.

We decided to take on the much derided FPL pundit this season, as myself and Fantasy Football Scout adopted a similar role over at the Metro game. Mauro Boselli probably didn’t provide the most illustrious start to this new branch in our career, but we quickly bounced back in Gameweek Two tipping Andy Carroll and Gareth Bale ahead of their big returns.

However, that was then and this is now and with Gameweek Eight about to kick-off, our next set of options are on the table over on the Metro website…

These are but six of the players on the radar this time around – three weekly bankers we feel are more assured some returns, two punts that may be off the beaten track and one player who’s past performances merit a shout-out – with many players close to consideration just falling short.

Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas was earmarked for a spot as a banker, but Arsene Wenger’s recent comments put the kybosh on that; team-mate Andrei Arshavin ran him close as a frequent point scorer in the Metro game and Dimitar Berbatov also falls just an inch short this week. While on the punt front, the midfield triumvirate of Matt Jarvis (with a potentially interesting game at home to West Ham), Charles N’Zogbia (making a visit to his old stomping ground of St. James Park) and Mikel Arteta (in a hotly contested derby that cries out for one of his dazzling free-kicks) were all pushing for a place but, ultimately, were just sneaked out.

    Well it's that time of the week again, yes that's right - Lawro's predictions. This week i've decided to try and predict Lawro's predictions though doubtless this is an uphill struggle trying to tap into the thinking of the peerless fotballing expert.

      I'd sooner have Berbatov than Rooney. Obviously he's in the better form but it also leaves you money to play around with in the following weeks such as getting Fabregas in a fortnight.

    anyone close to the albrighton situation? I have to find a sub for drogba and the only other 2 i have is Dann at Arsenal or Jara at ManU. dont want to have to play one of those guys. So if albrighton is not playing, i gotta make a move.

    The choice between Nani and Tevez for captain is so, so difficult. I really think I might just end up flipping a coin:

    On the one hand:
    - Nani got 2 goals and an assist against Denmark, and looked amazing
    - Tevez had a long flight to Japan, and more of the "Oh I'm wrecked" comments midweek.

    BUT:
    - Nani has been annoyingly inconsistant, and West Brom or not a total pushover.
    - Blackpool are going to go for City at home, and I think City will score because of this. Tevez will be involved if they score.

      Nani has provided at least an assist in all but two of his games, notched a pair of goals and got some bp's.

      Explain to me how this is inconsistent?

      I'm in the same boat except i've got Berbatov added to the equation. I'd worry about Nani only playing 70 mins tops.
      Go Nani if you're greedy but Tevez should be a solid choice.

        I cant decide either, my biggest opponent in my league has Nani and no Tevez in his team.
        So if i go with Tevez and he gains a hattrick i will be a happy man on Sunday.

        With Drogba and Fabregas out of action this GW, it's really put my team under pressure to get a decent points score for GW8.

        1) Can anyone tell me if Albrighton is out? and if anyone would play him over Dann in my team?

        balls with Drogba out, this leaves my mrs’s team with all 3 subs – Etuhu, Sagna, Baptiste and now Drogba on the bench!

        Already made a sub this week so gonna have to take a 4 point hit, so
        I’m thinking Etuhu to either Barton, Albrighton or De Jong. I only have 4.7 in the bank.

        What do you reckon?

        Has anyone put up the odds on clean sheets this weekend?

        I'm looking at playing 1 from the following 3 -

        Konchesky (away to Everton)
        Enrique (home to Wigan)
        Foley (home to West Ham)

        I already have Krul in goal so will probably not double up on Newcastle defenders seeing as I'm playing N'Zogbia in midfield against them.

        Hmm, of my crippled injury riddled side I was fully prepared to give the (c) to Nani - but now as I am facing up to Routledge, Van Damme and Dann coming in, maybe I should gamble and give the (c) Berbatov to compensate for the dross.           Cheer up- I've thought for the last few gameweeks that I'd do amazingly- then ended up with mediocre scores...

          The berbatov one's an interesting idea, but I just don't think you can risk it with nani in this form. It's like trying to double or nothing when you're about to have you're legs broken in a game of high stakes poker...
