Scout Notes

Scout Notes- Gameweek Two- Sunday

David Silva continues to dazzle as the main dangerman for Roberto Mancini’s stylish Man City in a 3-2 win over battling Bolton. A Matt Jarvis inspired Wolves keep up their 100% league record with a comfortable win over Fulham, while Stoke grab a last-gasp equaliser to deny Norwich a dream home start. Here’s the round-up of yesterday’s matches:

Solid Wolves
With Kevin Doyle partnered by Steven Fletcher up top and Roger Johnson marshalling the back-four, Wolves are looking a steelier proposition this season. The strike duo rarely played together last term due to injuries but have already shown that, if they can keep match-fit, will be a handful for any side. Mick McCarthy’s side swept Fulham aside in their opening home fixture of the season and with a wiser, more experienced look to the first XI, look unlikely to suffer a repeat of last season’s battle with relegation. Matt Jarvis was the stand-out player, with a goal and an assist in the 2-0 win. Roger Johnson appeared to grab an assist in the win but with all assists under review this weekend, we’re anticipating this to be addressed.

Jol Has Work to Do
Fulham have been impressive in their Europa League qualifiers so far but yesterday’s loss at Molineux means they’ve taken just one point from two league games and have failed to find the net. Martin Jol made four changes from the side that beat Dnipro in midweek but Fulham looked lethargic in this, their ninth game of the season, and will need to pick themselves up for next week’s trip to Newcastle. Clint Dempsey started up front again, partnering Andy Johnson as Bobby Zamora missed out with an ankle knock.

Bolton Up for the Battle
Owen Coyle’s side may have been beaten in the end but their willingness to scrap every inch of the way was encouraging for the Trotters boss. Ivan Klasnic scored again, Martin Petrov looked the part on the left wing and picked up two assists and with Kevin Davies also netting, Coyle’s side are in fine form going forward right now. The only problem for Bolton is that their fixture list doesn’t get any easier- the City game was the first in a run of matches that will see them face five of last season’s top six between Gameweeks 2-7.

Silva Continues to Shine
Man City have now scored seven goals in their opening two games and despite Sergio Aguero’s brilliant debut last Monday, it’s David Silva who has been the consistent stand-out. The playmaker was immense at the Reebok, passing and probing for openings in a porous Bolton back-four that was lucky to concede just the three goals. Silva has now scored in the opening two games, though there’s no denying his goal was somewhat fortuitous. With Carlos Tevez getting game time at Aguero’s expense and Yaya Toure dropping deeper now that 4-4-2 is a viable formation for Roberto Mancini, Silva looks the most assured Fantasy option of any City player. Mancini left out Gael Clichy, Nigel de Jong and Adam Johnson for this one, with Aleksander Kolarov, James Milner and Sergio Aguero starting.

Tinkerman Lambert
Paul Lambert demonstrated that he will shuffle his pack in attempt to counter the threat of opponents. He made no less than five changes to the Norwich starting XI that earned a draw at Wigan, dropping the likes of Andrew Surman, Russell Martin and Wes Hoolahan to the bench. Steve Morison missed out with a groin injury meaning that Chris Martin came in alongside Grant Holt. Turning his back on the midfield diamond in favour of a traditional 4-4-2 with wingers, Lambert emphasised the need to adapt in his post-match comments . From a Fantasy perspective then, the early signs are that we can take nothing for granted with the Canaries line-up. Ritchie De Laet at the back and Grant Holt in attack would seem the most reliable targets – De Laet was again impressive and his goal will have earned him further attention which is likely to tempt investment.

Potters Spot-Kick Dilemma
Stoke’s persistence eventually paid off against ten man Norwich, with Kenwyne Jones’ late equaliser denying the Canaries all three points. Jonathan Woodgate returned at centre-half after being rested in midweek, though a knee injury to Jermaine Pennant will cause Tony Pulis some concern- the winger was withdrawn just after the half hour mark. Jonathan Walters seemed to have jumped to the head of the queue for spot-kick duties- he stepped up and subsequently missed a penalty with previous first-choice Matt Etherington on the field. It’s perhaps doubtful as to whether Walters takes the next one.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

How come Suarez got 2 BP's for 19 minutes of play?

It seems wrong that a player can get a huge amount of PPI for a tap-in and a few good EA PPI related things, in just 19 minutes compared to others that played the full 90 minutes.

Yeah, feel bad for Meireles - had a great last season and now he's an also-ran because of the largely unproven new boys. Liverpool should bleed them in gently and have a stable squad rather than this rapid change - I don't think Dalgleish is the greatest manager and Liverpool don't look worthy of a top 4 finish the way they're playing.

Reckon it'll be City's season if they can get some of Man U's grit and determination in.

Stuck with a lot of the same players as many on here. Here's my thoughts, dilemmas and potential solutions.
    Yaya
Thoughts: played too deep, may continue to play too deep bs Spurs but could be given a freer role vs Wigan.
Dilemma: I'd swap him if there was anybody in that price bracket that I could see tearing it up this week but there isn't imo. Solution: stick til after GW4/Wildcarding.

    Torres
Thoughts: Played quite well from all accounts (I was on a train) but still can't score.
Dilemma: has one of the best fixtures coming up but could be dropped.
Solution: stick but don't risk captaining again. I already have Bent and Suarez and switching to Aguero or taking a 4pt hit to get Rooney is madness given the fixtures.

    Jagielka
Thoughts: Everton may start badly but I only have him a) to rotate with Enrique or b) to hop on Arsenals good fixtures when they start.
Dilemma: Everton may start slow and he may not move. Could do a straight swap for Bosingwa.
Solution: Actually don't know here - do Jagielka to Bosingwa and then bench Yaya or just play Yaya?

Torres - Give him one more GW.
Jagielka - Keep for a while.
Yaya - Remove. I think he's overpriced and wont be getting on the bandwagon as much this season.

Baring a random match 2nite il be wildcarding.

This year i want to build some budget up, Want to get in the value players early and want a total overhaul of my squad despite and ok /average start -103 and rooney left.
My midfield for example is as follows -Lampard, Moses,Sinclair, Hoolahan, Ferguson.
I think with the new system, new players showing good potential and certain teams creating chances at will (City ) a shake up of my initial team is needed

This is what im looking at

    Vorm Ruddy
    Baines, Kompany ,Bosingwa,Enrique, Taylor S
    Silva,Malouda,Brunt,Dyer, Buzaky,
    Suarez,Bent, Dzeko

Young or Nani to replace Malouda.

      Very strong.

Don't think I'd like having Dyer and Buzsaky in midfield though.

Does everyone think Bosingwa is a season keeper now?

Bit drastic imo. I'd just wait a week and swap Lamps and another out for Silva and another.

Ferguson was a blunder tho', but the rest have at least potential to score.

Just wanted to say that I am extremely frustrated with my decision to put Torres as a captain for this weekend! So far, considering the price and strength of each team, everyone else have done significantly better that him (this weekend and overall performance so far). As a manager, I am giving him one last chance to captain my team this coming weekend against Norwich. Hopefully, he will start firing and if he doesn't deliver, he is out. Suarez is much cheaper and ... yeah, unlike Torres, he actually scores!

That's will also save me some money for future transfers. For instance, Lampard is not worth the money (just like Torres, picked him up because of the Chelsea's relatively easy fixtures), so at one point I will be changing him with De Silva/Bale/Dempsey. That'll also free up additional money to purchase another Point-scoring midfielder.

And finally, that's my team for Gameweek 2 (In week 3, at the back, it will be all Newcastle line up):

    Vorm
    De Leat, S Taylor, Tierney
Sinclair, Hoolahan, Lampard, Van deer Vard
    Torres Bent Rooney

    Subs:

    Mucha, Mikel, Simpson, R Taylor

If there's one trend I remember from 2010-11 it was:

Nani + Old Trafford - Valencia = points fest

Please let that hold true tonight.

Newcastle defender to Newcastle defender seems silly, I know he scored, but it is a little wasteful.

Sinclair has a nice home game next week. Get Brunt in for someone else, he looks good.

Well I had Sinclair, for two days last week - took a really serious look at him, U 21's and all - and then decided I was deluding myself. Jarvis was the satisfying result.

Yeah I'm not saying I would transfer him in but if he is already there don't waste a transfer getting rid of him. Good call on Jarvis, I thought that would be a boring 0-0. Wolves looked very lively.

Again you are doing a transfer for the sake of, N'Zogbia is at home to Wolves if you aren't going to play him in a game like that then you shouldn't have bought him. If I was to pick one it would be Sessegnon, Sunderland will struggle for goals.

i think one more week and we'll know enough about this year's fpl to make some major decision(even wildcard)
we got one more game to know
1.If Sinclair/Taraabt are worth the money or if dyer a better option
2.Whether Dzeko, Tevez and Aguero are rotated and who;s a better option
3.If bosingwa really is nailed on
4.If nzogbia has any potential whatsoever at villa
    5. If VDV is worth the outlay
    6. Torres home to norwich
Gonna save my transfer this week and go into next week armed with some decisions to make.. may just make 3 transfers for a hit after this week and salvage my team or use my wildcard.. gonna stay off the transfers page this week

though i'm probably losing 0.3 if i do so as bosingwa and silva will go up and torres will go down.. currently have a.cole nzog and torres instead of those 3.. should be worth it in the long run though to hold onto my wildcard
