Set-Piece Takers Updated

One of the benefits of the international break is that it allows us to pause and take stock and perhaps refresh some neglected areas of the site.

We’ve been able to update our set-piece takers based on the evidence of the season so far and, of course, last season’s records – you can now view the updated table – listing the penalty, direct free-kick and corner and indirect free-kick takers for every side – right here.

Mikel Arteta’s shift to Arsene Wenger’s squad has undoubtedly had the biggest impact on the current set-piece landscape. Having relieved Leighton Baines of free-kick and spot-kick duties for Everton at Blackburn in Gameweek three, his deadline day transfer to the Emirates has put Baines back in control, proving a major boost to the left-back’s appeal for the remainder of the season. We’re yet to see what kind of impression Arteta can make at Arsenal but, there’s little doubt he arrives with the reputation of one of the league’s primary set-piece experts and Wenger could well look to relieve Robin Van Persie of some of his responsibilities in this area.

Revisting that Blackburn vs Everton clash in the previous Gameweek – it’s worth noting that Junior Hoilett took on spot-kick duties with both David Dunn and Morten Gamst-Pedersen on the pitch. Jason Roberts was available, but Hoilett got the nod over him. Roberts was then off the pitch when Mauro Formica hit the post with his effort. This leaves the Blackburn Rovers spot-kick situation in flux, but we’ve given Hoilett promotion above Roberts in the pecking order, despite Saturday’s miss. New arrival Yakubu could yet have a say in this however.

Indeed, we’re still waiting on the impact of a host of new signings on the set-piece set-up. We imagine that both Samir Nasri and Juan Mata will both have a say for City and Chelsea respectively. Similarly, we’re yet to see how Steven Gerrard’s return, with the Spurs game in a fortnight the target, will influence the situation at Liverpool. Right now Charlie Adam is hogging set-plays but, we imagine that could change on Gerrard’s return to the fold.

Having established a new starting point for the season, we will work to keep this table updated and refreshed on a regular basis as the Gameweeks roll by.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Is suarez likely to score 2 or more goals often like rvp is over season?

he'll score exactly 6 more goals, therefore he is worth it.

just make sure you have 1 arsenal player for GW4, if you have 1 in midfield already then get suarez, if not then get RVP!

In the same boat. The only forward im 100% sure I'm keeping in my wc team is Rooney. Suarez/RVP/Dzeko is fighting for the two other spots. It's giving me a headache.

What are peoples thoghts on Downing? In one of my possible wc lineups I got around 8.5 to spend on a midfielder, and Enrique is the only other Liverpool cover i got.

Yeah, got to check who rotates well with De Laet.

Just worried that my midfield is too light. If my expensive forwards got an off day, then I really need the likes of Brunt and Jarvis to pick up points. I like the defence though.

My team looks to have a couple of players fall in price soon, and it looks to be a pretty average team. Is it worth wildcarding to get players which will rise in price tonight (is this how it works?) and then have the option to improve my team at the same time?

Enrique, Kompany, Jagielka, Cahill, De Laet

Wait and see on Bent's injury..

I'd be looking to get rid of N'Zogbia and Zamora to bring in someone from Arsenal (Walcott/Arteta) and maybe Fletcher or Klasnic in attack. Beyond this week I'd lose one of your 5m+ defenders to upgrade Yaya.

You like to ask questions 🙂

Spurs are poo right now and still have tough fixtures for the next few weeks.

Chelsea has massive rotation to sort out.

The game is largely about 'form' - that's why they allow transfers.

yes you are right, well i got almsot same team like everyone else but i aslo look for team on long rides

i am not sure that 3 city, man utd players and livpool players in same team is good choice...

as for torres,i really do belive that he would score this fixure but i had him as C last 2 times and that sad part is that i replaced dzeko for him after 1st fixure...i decided to never put him in my team again

if old bonus system works Modric would be good addtion from spurs...but with this one he prolly would suck in fantasy league

I think it's important to note that the 'regular' FFS posters on here probably make up a very small percentage of the actual FPL players ... so a generic team here might very well be not-so-generic in terms of the overall game.

Just a thought - not backed up with any actual statistics ...

I guess I'm saying go with your own analysis/gut, and not to let whether a choice is popular or unpopular on here sway you.

You'll enjoy the highs and not be so resentful at the lows that way.

Think of FFS as a place to get best-guess info and analysis - no more.

And the banter, decent banter as well 🙂

No problem. If you have £3m in bank you may as well get Arsenal coverage as that should easily pay you back the 4 pt hit over the next 5 GW's anyway due to very kind fixtures.

who's your other goalie? kenny mignolet and hennessey good options.. depends on your other goalie though so that you can rotate them home and away

Funnily enough the three I am thinking of have now been mentioned.

honestly though imo.. go for a 4.0.. you'll want to play given every week except a manu away etc.. vorm is perfect.. their rotation improves in a few weeks too

anyone play fifa world cop fantasy??it was way better game than this one cause you actually could take defensive MF in your team and he would get you pts if he plays good match...same with atacker.suarez was man of the match in last fixure and he ge 0 bonus pts

i hope rules would change next year cause this dosn't make any seanse and it's not realistic...only assist and goals matter and that's really bad

        it was way better,isn't it?

you got pts for shots on goal,passes,tackels,dribles...everything

and their system fuction very well

fanatsy premier league should consider changing rules cause only what is matter in this games are atackers and ofensive Mfs...

i remember that i had tiago from portugal and he get me like 20pts in 1 game like defensive MF.he did score a goal but he had a bounch of tackles and other things

    A: Yaya > Nasri; Larsson > Arteta; Torres > £7.8m(max) striker.
    B: Yaya > Nasri; Torres > Dzeko; Larsson > £7.1m(max) midfielder.
C: Yaya > Nasri; Torres > Dzeko (keep Larsson)

It would be; but I don't have any Arsenal cover with that option. I was edging towards A, with Walcott another possibility, and then I would be looking at a £6.8m striker max.

I see that alot of RMT's got the Krul/Vorm combo (me included), but is it not likely that Villa(given) will get more clean sheets then Newcastele? Think the .5 we can use elsewere makes up for that?

Ferguson is no good even as bench dross. Senderos is a) useless and b) a risk. Sessegnon's a good player, but at risk now Bendtner's in a Gyan is apparently still fit.

So, maybe downgrade Senderos, upgrade Ferguson and find an alternative to Sessegnon. I'm assuming this is a WC team.

Personally I'd loose Sess and bring in Brunt - better run of fixtures and he's on set pieces.

Also perhaps(!) swap Young for Arteta or Rooney for Van Persie to give you Arsenal coverage; Man Utd have some big games coming up compared to Arsenal.
