Scout Scribbles- Mancini Talks Rotation

As Roberto Mancini talks about rotating his forwards, Sir Alex Ferguson sets his front two their goal targets for the season. Tony Pulis and Andre Villas-Boas both praise their defences, while Harry Redknapp explains his decision to drop Rafael Van der Vaart for Spurs’ Europa League squad. Here’s some Scribbles for this morning, folks:

Roberto Mancini brought up the dreaded “R” word yesterday. The Italian admitted rotation will play a large part going forward, particularly when it comes to his forwards. Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero have both scored six goals in the first four league games but Mancini has already shown last weekend, that Dzeko’s recent form meant nothing as he sat out the game with Wigan. Mancini said:

I count myself very lucky to rely on four strikers, especially in a situation where the team needs to play every three days. I can have a good turnover of the strikers. For now Mario will have to adapt to the situation, he will not be playing for the next few matches.

Dzeko and Aguero are great players and Tevez has nothing to be afraid of. He is a player who always gives 100% performance and doesn’t need to prove himself. He has already done so.

Sir Alex Ferguson has set his front two their goal targets for the season. The United boss laid down the gauntlet to both Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez, suggesting fifty goals between them is what he’s aiming for. Given the duo’s start to the season, it seems more than feasible- they have already hit ten from a combined total of five starts:

Two years ago Wayne’s target was to go over 30 and he reached it very quickly. If he gets to that target again I will be absolutely delighted because with Javier’s ability to score we could have two goalscorers well above 25.

Tony Pulis took time out to hail his defence yesterday. Stoke are unbeaten in eight games in all competitions and have chalked up six clean sheet over those fixtures, with just one goal conceded in the league so far. With home clean sheets against both Chelsea and Liverpool, Pulis reckons the experience brought in over the summer has made a crucial difference:

Begovic and Shawcross are exceptionally good players. Last year we maybe lacked a bit of experience and Upson and Woodgate have got the experience we didn’t have. I think one of the reasons we have done so well is we have had that cool experience at the back.

The big difference has been having a Woodgate or an Upson at the heart of defence. We have benefited so far from having one of them in that slot.

Following on from this, Pulis has omitted Jonathan Woodgate from Stoke’s Europa League squad. The Potters boss reckons too much travelling may trigger a recurrence of Woodgate’s previous injury issues and has omitted the centre half in order to preserve him for Premier League duties.

Andre Villas-Boas also took time out to praise his defence. Not so much for their resilience, however, more in relation to their ball-playing abilities. David Luiz grabbed a goal on his first start of the season last night and Villas-Boas explained that his philosophy is starting to show signs of fruition in matches:

It’s not the first time this season that you’ve seen our centre-halves breaking through, driving with the ball. I’m happy. It means the idea that we’re putting over in training and taking hold. These players have the technical talent to take it out on the pitch.

Harry Redknapp moved to pacify Rafael Van der Vaart yesterday. The Dutchman was upset after not being told he was to be left out of the Spurs Europa League squad and even went as far as to express his annoyance on his own website but Redknapp explained his decision:

The first diagnosis on Rafa’s hamstring was that he would be out for six weeks – at least. We might as well put in some of the other lads who can play. The game he would have come back for would have been the game out in Russia and it would have been a long journey for him.

I wouldn’t have slapped Rafa out on that long journey probably anyway. He’s a very important player for us. If we get through the group he can come in then.

Sunderland could well have to do without Phil Bardsley for the next few games. The FA have charged the Black Cats full-back with violent conduct after he appeared to stamp on Juan Mata during Chelsea’s weekend win at the Stadium of Light. Bardsley has already been sent off this season and reports suggest he could be facing a four match ban, meaning he’d miss the showdowns with Stoke, Norwich, West Brom and Arsenal.

Similarly, West Brom will miss the services of Gabriel Tamas for the next three games. The Baggies defender accepted a charge of violent conduct from the FA after elbowing James Vaughan in the 1-0 win over Norwich on Sunday, and will sit out the upcoming league matches against Swansea and Fulham.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Since no one is trying, I'll tell you. It's Torres, which officially makes him the best striker in the Europe.

    dear all:

have had an uninspiring start to the campaign, with an avg/gw score of 47pts. possibly pushing the panic button, but feeling like there's a lot i could do with a wildcard, given form and fixtures.

    current team is:
    given/foster
    delaet/staylor/bosingwa/jagielka/riise
    silva/mata/young/sessegnon/moses
    zamora/dzeko/graham

    wc team is:

    given/VORM
    delaet/staylor/GIBBS/bosingwa/NTAYLOR
    silva/mata/young/sess/ARTETA
    GERVINHO/BENDTNER/ADEBAYOR

thought about young > NANI, as i feel he's about ready to lift off, but think maybe it's a negligible difference and would cost me .2 in team value. then again, i bought nani last season when he dropped to his lowest value of the season (7.9, i believe), and he's just dropped again.

doubling up on ars/sun attack, but keeping the faith in the two midfielders i think are most central in their respective teams and adding one i think WILL be in arteta.

i had gervinho in gw1 and got burned, but was very pleased with everything i saw up until that point, whereas bendtner is too good to not grab a fair few goals from STK/STK/nor/WBA/ars/bol/ AVL/mun/FUL/WIG, and i've got a feeling that adebayor could be gold at tot. an argument could be made for someone better at around 8-8.5 between now and gw9/10 when tot's fixtures ease up a bit.

    any thoughts?

    much appreciated!

How do you guys rate Petrov (Bolton) or even Jarvis as punts for the captaincy this week - I'm desperate to make up some ground after having scooped a total of 10 points on my captains so far this season. Surely Roonpig and Aguero cant keep hammering in hatricks on demand???

Having watched both the Norwich and QPR games, the defensive strengths of these teams are anything but amazing, as opposed to Petrovs crossing, which is second to none.

    Krul - Vorm
    Bosingwa - Enrique - Simpson - N.Taylor - De laet
    Young - Silva - Brunt - Petrov - Dyer
    Rooooney - RVP - Dzeko

I am thinking RVP > Aguero this week*

Then next week, a 4 point hit to go...

    Dzeko > Sturridge
    and
    Brunt to Nasri/Mata

*I might save the RVP transfer to the week after as well (save a transfer) if Aguero does not look like rising in price, cos I actually suspect he may be on the bench this weekend.

    How does this plan look?

I think you might be setting yourself up for a whole lotta heartache shipping out RVP. Look at Arsenals fixture list - its very tasty for next ~10 weeks. There are strikers picking up hattricks all over the palce this year... its only a matter of time before Robin gets in on the act. Keep the faith & wait until he gets injured to get rid.

My problem with RVP is that I think I may have made a rare error of judgement in bringing him in. Not because he isn't a great player but because of the drop in service this year - like any striker he needs service from the midfield. Losing Nasri and Fabregas is a huge blow i this resepect and Arteta and Benayoun, etc are nowhere near as good. I am just not sure that Arsenal are going to blow teams away like Man U and Man C are (and like Arsenal were at times last year)

That's definitely a potential drwback. But he scored goals without Fab last year... and I'm pretty sure Nasri had 0 goals + assists in the last couple of months of the year. he actually has 3 goals in his last 4 league/champs lge for the gunners also. I'm hpoing he will explode with a 15-ptr soon enough. Watch the bandwagon gather pace if so!

If I save a transfer this GW, thus I'll have 2 transfers next GW. If I then only use 1 transfer (of the 2), do I still have 2 free transfers the following GW?

Anyone else think Mereiles is going to turn out to be a very fine fantasy pick in the Chelsea blue? At the moment Mata is probably slightly better, but he's near the top of my watchlist.

Mereiles may well be the man who assists the assists I think.

      What do the percentages say?

Problem for me is that Meireles will quite possibly play as our deepest midfield in the 'easy' games where someone like Mikel isn't necessary. And these are the sort of games where you target big returns. Mata isn't that much more expensive than Meireles, but is a much better pick IMO.

The percentages say Mata, but I just have a thing about Mereiles. Seems to be involved in most attacking plays (quiet high up the pitch as well)and is starting to take a pop from distance like he was doing for Liverpool. I'm interested.

Afternoon chaps. I would appreciate some feedback for the following team this GW.

    Given (Vorm)

    Kompany/Enrique/Bosingwa (Simpson/Senderos)

    Silva/Taarabt/Sess/N'Zog (Moses)

    Dzeko/Rooney/Suarez

    Look ok?

Yeh, I thought the same about Sess/Taarabt/Moses and N'zog actually. Although, I haven't read much about N'zogs form to date. I'm hoping that he'll deliver against Newcastle this week.

So my keepers are Vorm & Hilario and I've yet to make my 1 transfer.

Hilario is about to price drop and obv I want him out, but Vorm has a decent fixture and I could use my transfer to good use elsewhere.

Ideally I'd wait until after the CL games but I've already lost 0.5 through not outing players fast enough.

    Thoughts?

Vorm will cover your keeper duty this week no problem, but Hilario won't get another game this season unless Cech is injured so this transfer will be high on your priority list.

ye defo want him out, but i'm weighing up losing 0.1 on him and getting in a crucial outfield transfer this week, maybe due an in injury in CL games.
also got my wildcard, but i don't think my teams bad enough to play it (also took 4 point hit last week)

    hi

would u reckon any change for this set up ?

    Vorm
    Simpson - Kompany - Ward
    Brunt - Moses - Young - Silva
    Dzeko (c) - Rooney (v) - RVP

Sub: Dyer, Bosingwa, De Laet, Krul

I'm wondering if i should start Bosingwa ahead of Simpson.
And.. also uncertain with my captain choice. 🙂

moses has been close to the points but he'll be firmly on my bench this week i imagine

Hi guys. I'm looking for some help. My team is below. I've got 0.2 to play with. I don't mind taking a 4 or 8 point hit though as I'm keen to catch up to other players in my mini league and who knows, my new players could make up much more than the 4/8 point hit.

    Given (Rudd)
Bosingwa Kompany De Laet Simpson Gabbidon
    Cleverley Dyer Silva Young Arteta
    Van Persie Dzeko Adebayor

Obviously, I know I'm going to have to transfer Cleverley out and I'm looking to try and join the Rooney bandwagon (A bit late I know!) as can see him scoring against Chelsea.

Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks!

Why is Rudd in your team??? He's played his one game for the season (unless there's something I don't know about Ruddy)

Cleverely is an easy transfer out this gameweek. I'd look at Petrov for that spot.

Don't jump on the Roowagon now, pin your hopes on RvP's fixtures, and also stay clear of the points hits.

        Thanks.

I have Rudd because I transferred him in for Ruddy the other week as Given looked doubtful and Ruddy was suspended.

I'm tempted to get Rooney and keep Van Persie as I know as soon as I transfer him out he'll score loads. Plus, he's got a great scoring record against Blackburn.

I would ignore Rooney but so many people in my league have him and I've resisted till now thinking that if he has a bad week and VP has a good one I'll gain loads on them. But Rooney just can't stop scoring at the moment and I don't want to lose even more ground.
