Euro 2012 – McDonald’s Scout League Update

As Fantasy managers while away the hours until tomorrow night’s first semi-final of Euro 2012, we’re rolling out some updates on the progress of the Fantasy Football Scout leagues across the various Fantasy games so far. First up, we begin a look at the McDonald’s game, analysing those managers who are currently leading the way after the quarter finals:

Nenad Todorovic sits at the top of the Scout league after registering a score of 71 in the quarter-finals. Jordi Alba, Sami Khedira and Mesut Ozil were his stand out individuals, while he chose to stick with Cristiano Ronaldo as captain after the Portugal man notched against Czech Republic on day one. Nenad now sits second overall in the McDonald’s rankings, just a single point off the summit with a total of 272 points.

Isaac Lundall is next up, just a couple of points behind. His decision to double up on England and Spain defenders paid off, with captain Ashley Cole racking up 14 points in the previous round. The top two have quite a gap over the chasing pack, with Lee Harding sitting in third place on 258 points, 14 off the top. Picking a couple of Portugal’s backline against the Czechs paid off, while Joleon Lescott, Jordi Alba and captain Sami Khedira helped produce a score 69 points in the quarters – Lee is the third Fantasy manager we currently have in the overall top 10, situated in tenth place.

Surapong Lertthiratoj currently resides in fourth place in the Scout league after picking up a 62 point haul last time out. While his decision to back a couple of Italy defenders paid off, his faith in Germany’s backline backfired after Greece scored twice against Joachim Low’s outfit; Mesut Ozil vindicated Surapong’s decision to hand the playmaker the armband by picking up a 16 point captain return.

Winding up our review of the top five, we have Paul Robinson – a new entrant to the Scout league. Paul was the top scoring player of our featured Fantasy managers with a 78 point haul, thanks to his decision to hand Xabi Alonso the armband; the Spain midfielder duly obliged with a 28 point return, while the likes of Jordi Alba, Joao Pereira and Joleon Lescott boosted his tally at the back.

For the contributors, Paul (I’m talking about myself in the third person here, shocking habit) is the top scoring manager so far – sitting just outside the top 50 in the Scout league on 236 points and 604 overall. Doubling up on Spain’s defence and leaving the armband on Ronaldo was enough for 60 points. Mark is next up, sitting in 187 in the Scout league. Taking a leaf out of Spain’s book, his striker-less 5-5-0 formation harvested 64 points, with captain Joleon Lescott and Joe Hart returning 22 points between them in the goalless draw with Italy. Jonty stands in 649th place in the Scout league after a 54 point haul in the quarters. His decision to captain Italy’s Andrea Barzagli against England paid off with a 14 point return, while Jordi Alba also boosted his tally with 10 points at the back.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Right first draft FPL team almost there. This is based on number of players from teams rather than actual names as the prices could vary too much.

I have included enough smaller teams to have some very cheap options to balance the budget.

    3 from Chelsea of course.

I love FPL, and I'm definitely playing again, but I'm struggling to understand why people are already getting into team planning, tickers, WC planning, rotation etc...

We don't know prices, we don't know when the game will be launched, we don't know who's going to be signed in the off-season, and there's still a whole fantasy game going on!

It all seems like a waste of effort to me at this stage. Come the end of July and the start of August, I'll be putting the hours of planning needed, but not right now... Maybe I need a break too 😉

I think I am one of the rare one's who agree with you. I've almost skipped the articles about the promoted clubs. Will read all of them later. After the euros, I am looking forward to a 20 day break from fantasy football. Only after the game launches, will I start my planning.

While you peeps are still on here, how does this lineup look? 0.0m left in the bank.

    Patricio - (Tzorvas)
    Abate - Alba - Hummels - Pereira - (Maniatis)
    Busquets - Ozil - Khedira - Pirlo - (Darida)
    Ronaldo - Gomez - Torres

If Torres doesn't start, he will be replaced by Cassano and Pirlo will be taken off for Fabregas.

I'd still be using that 1 FT for him. If Germany ever go out, assuming of course, the same goes I will have to replace Hummels again. It's a risk but I just can't afford to buy any 7m as I want the pair Gomez/Ronaldo. If I downgrade one of them, I will be able to get a 7m goalkeeper.

    Prediction:

    Por-Spa 1-0
    Ger-Ita 2-2 with penalties

RMT - ideas for my last FT and 1.6m?

    Patricio (4.0)
    Pepe, Pereira, Hummels, Boateng, Balzaretti
    Moutinho, Reus, Marchisio, Busquets, Nocerino
    CRonaldo, Balotelli, Nani

With a 14 player squad I can handle of neither Reus or Nocerino feature.

They are thinking a 5 league system, 1 manager a team. 98 teams. And UCL/UEL stuff to boot. There's a memo somewhere.

5 leagues (EPL, La Liga, Serie A, Ligue 1, and a 5th league). 5th League was going to be Bundesliga but that only has 18 teams which would complicate things a bit. so right now we are looking at making a rest of Europe league which would have the main teams from germany plus others from around europe so perhaps porto and ajax and psv, etc.

all 1v1 leagues so 100 managers can participate. will be a 19 week league and after the 19 weeks we will probably (though not guaranteed) hold another 19 week league with bottom 2, 3 or 4 players from each league relegated to allow new players to join in.

then we will have CL and europa again but those will qualify from the leagues mainly. more precise rules and such to follow but that is the general idea so far

    Morning boys,

I'm 16 points behind my mini-league leader so which approach would you fancy?

    a) Standard spa-ger coverage, hoping to have some differential

    Neuer
    Hummels, Alba, Arbeloa, Pique, Barzagli
    Ozil, Khedira, Busquets, Pirlo
    Ronaldo, Balotelli

    b) All on spa clean sheet and maybe no ronaldo

    Casillas
    Alba, Arbeloa, Pique, Ramos, Abate
    Ozil, Busquets, Pirlo, Marchisio
Balotelli, Gomez (could be also ronaldo if I want..)

if you sell silva and nani and buy some good cheap forward you can upgrade your midfilder or defence...

You're going to have to downgrade one of your dearer players to free up funds. Scwein to Kheidra seems a sensible move and allows you to upgrade Lescott to a playing defender.

that seems to be possible option....downgrading schweini to Khedira would help me swap lescott for Jordi alba/Arbeloa/Pepe/Badstuber...

more options from you expected though

one other fantasy manager stated that i should sell nani and silva...is that a good option keeping in mind the fact that they both are sure starters and will fetch atleast 2-3 points.

I don't see Nani doing anything (could be wrong 🙂 ) so I'd downgrade him - maybe Olivera and just play two up front. Silva has a decent chance of scoring/assisting, but he's pricey...

So already got Butland and have written off goalie points in preference for more expensive outfield players? It's a possible way, you just have to hope against CSs or penalty saves. And few saved shots.

Cant seem to understand McD's logic...

We can have 6 players from one team in the semis and 12 players from one team for the final...

But with only 4 FTs between semis and final, how am I going to convert my 6 players to 12 players...

Surely they should have at least provided 6 FTs for the final...

Sun Dreamteam question for you guys...final transfer window closing tonight and I have 3 transfers to make.

    Current starters are:

    Buffon
    Ozil, Sweinsteiger, Alonso
    Ronaldo, Gomez

Subbing out my my most expensive non-starters (Debuchy, Mexez & Benzema) I have 13.0m left to spend on 2 defenders and either 1 striker or 1 midfielder. Makes sense to get as many Spain and German players as possible, although 3 is not possible.

    Options:

    a) Alba (5.0), Boateng (4.5) & Cassano (3.0)
    b) Alba (5.0), Periera (2.5) & Podolski/Muller (5.5)
    c) Alba (5.0), Balzaretti (3.0) & Fabregas/Silva (4.5)

    Which is best?

I think I'm swaying towards a). All nailed on to start and it covers most bases.

        c) with Fabregas could be great if he starts, as he's classed as a midfielder in the Sun game so would get 2 points for any Spain cleanies. Hmmm, but then doubling on Italian defenders against a rampant looking Germany probably not a good idea.

The situation with the German forward line is killing me! The logic tells me Klose will start as they were much fluent with him in the team, on the other hand their opponents were Greece. Another strong point for Klose is his knowledge of italian football, but still not sure if I should go for him. I really want this differential forward line of Klose, Balo and Silva, and if by any chance Pedro starts for Spain I'll go for him and upgrade one of my 4 defenders. What do you guys think?

      I have Gomez.

Unlikely he won't start but as I have no control over that all I can do is the same as everyone else who picks him and just hope he plays from the off.

Why would Pedro start now when he hasn't done so up till now in any of the other games???

Well, the word is Silva might be benched for Pedro as he offers more help for the defence (Arbeloa) in their effort to neutralise Ronaldo. Even Del Bosque in a press conference said something like they will try to 'turn off' CR.

    @TW

Really liking how the thing is shaping up. Love the relegation part. The split season is also cool.

Suggestion: For those finishing top half: UCL, bottom half: UEL. And then fill up the rest up with managers from outside the 5 leagues. This way you can managers that are not in the system, and ALSO add extra teams from outside (Shaktar etc).

    Re: Bundesliga
I think that the 18 teams in BL is not a good enough reason to exlude the league. If you add the two top BL2 teams, or just make it a gameweek shorter will be a much better solution imo.

that won't work mate. 5 leagues of 20 each means top half would be 10 teams per league x5 is 50 teams. only 32 are in CL! we've got it figured out though. just dont remember the details, would have to look through one of our many email chains to find it

adding top two teams is what i proposed initially but problem is we'd have to entirely redo the fixtures then! i actually think the rest of europe league will be better! it'll have the main teams from germany but instead of having some of those bottom teams will have other good teams like such as porto and ajax, psv, cska moskow, shaktar donesk, etc

Boateng has a higher potential for assists (which are much more likely on themselves) Hummels for goals, Hummels is more nailed on.

It's a tough one, I would actually be inclined to go for Boateng who could get some joy down the Italian left.

Cheers, now my only decision is which route to go:

            a) Alba, Hummels & Cassano, or
            b) Alba, any Italian or Portugese defender (except Pepe or Chiellini), & Fabregas

            Whatcha reckon?

Sorry, my bad. The only Portugese defender I can afford in that combo is Perreira. Also, Silva is the same price as Fabregas, but is classed as a striker so wouldn't get the clean sheet points if Spain keep it tight. Best option?
