Season Predictions 2012/13 – View From The Scouts

Over the last week or so the Fantasy Football Scout fold have been sharing our innermost thoughts with regards to some of the most “Burning Questions” ahead of the new campaign. To accompany our views there, here’s our annual quick-fire round of predictions, where we let you know the players each of us are tipping to shine in a new season…

As our entry from last year will show you we’re prone to making the odd mistake (or seven). Steve Kean, eh? Who would have thought he would still be in a job. Even after he got Blackburn relegated, as half of us rightly predicted.

Here follows our thoughts on the year ahead. Soak it in and then join the discussion and offer your thoughts and counter-comments down below.

Andy, that’s my good self, kicks things off for 2012/13 with what is no doubt a bit of a fancy for one player in particular. And it’s not even Gylfi Sigurdsson. This is almost partisan from our resident all-rounder.

Second out of the traps is Big Dunc. One of two Everton fans on the Scout payroll our resident toffee can’t help but get a little bit excited at the prospects of his club. Is he mad? We’ll find out by May.

Having signed mid-way through last Stilicho gets his first Scout attempt to show everyone just how prophetic he is. His opinions on Norwich pretty much separate this gent from everyone else involved so he’s either a mad heretic or the one we should all be looking to in the future.

Granville gets a weekly platform on the Scoutcast to discuss and debate with Mark on all things Fantasy Football related. In this post he has, perhaps unsurprisingly, decided to pick some answers from the red side of Manchester. What’s more surprising is that we can see some light blue too.

Also having his first dabble at infamy is Jonty. With no Premier League allegiances for this Brighton fan, his picks can come untainted by any frivolous behaviour. He wisely agreed with me about a certain West Brom player.

Anorak may be our resident specialist when it comes to the men in black but he also likes to think he can be a dab hand at Fantasy football too. As far as top goalscorer predictions, he marks himself out as the black sheep of the Scout fraternity by being the only one not to tow the party line.

Having churned out more top quality articles than Anchor have butter, Paul is well versed on all things Premier League and as such we expect him to score 100% when we mark his results in May. Even if one of his answers is Emmerson Boyce, who are we to second guess?

Mark The guv’nor brings up the rear and clearly has a problem with Swansea’s prospects, whilst talking up that Southampton mob. Mark backed Grant Holt last season and, similarly, he’s going with Rickie Lambert to turn up with a similar goal spree. Oh, and he still fancies Leighton Baines. Must be the haircut or the record collection.

TOTTENHAM FANS, please, any way of knowing where Siggy will play? I have him but I'm starting to feel stupid at not upgrading him to Bale... and is Bale definitely fit for this weekend?

I still have a good feeling about Siggy....

I'm not a tottenham fan but since modric is leaving I'll think he'll play deep at the start until a replacement is bought, then he'll rotate with VDV in the hole or VDV will rotate with lennon with siggy in the hole permentaly. Bale is you best bet, safety first so no false starts

There’s one player in particular I’m really surprised not to see appearing in more peoples teams.

A guy who is still in his mid 20s, has scored 44 international goals at a rate of almost 1 in 2, who last season got 18 league goals in a struggling side and who is all but guaranteed a starting line up in one of the Premier League’s most attacking sides..for a price of just 8.5!!!!

Might even be on pens too!

Too easy to see Van Persie's points haul shifting to United - someone's going to hoover up the chances at the Emirates. Podlski, Giroud, Walcott - it'll be a more even distribution than last year - but it's a fair a shout as any to say Podolski gets the lions share. Penalties, and the experience you mention. 8.5 is a snip.

      Total turd. Not really.

Cisse will be just off Ramadan fasting, has most of his supply line injured, has nasty fixtures and might be paired up front with Ba instead of lone striker. Pick someone else until none of that is true.

Zabaleta is more nailed on than Kolarov. Harte is not nailed on after Reading signed Nicky Shorey. Villa will be good for attacking but likely to be poor defensively.

Yeah, Kolarov is a huge punt, and not a long term option. Just figured if he doesnt play, Clark will come in off my bench. If he does play, especially on the left wing, then he could score huge.

    Just a few quick questions:)
    1) Rooney vs Nani? who is more nailed on and worth the value
    2) Between Noble/Nolan/Ireland/Tarabt, which two are the best? anyone else in that price range (apart from michu)
3: tevez or podolski or grioud (i think podolski's value will shoot up)

    fire ahead!

      1) Rooney
      2) Nolan - proven prem goalscorer but not had much preseason.
Noble - on set-pieces but besides those doesnt score much from open play.
Ireland - not played much over couple of seasons, i'd leave alone
Tarabt - championship player at best.
      3) Tevez for me as proven. Though I think podolski will be a huge hit and could be on pens.

    Interesting words from fergie
"Absolutely (Rooney and Van Persie can gel). Robin can play in two or three positions but last season he proved his best was number one up the pitch." Seems Rooney will play in the hole behind RVP, still can't decide if to get one of them.

    A) Ramires, Hazard, Larsson, Rooney, Cuellar
    B) Ramires, Nani/Kagawa/Young, Larsson, Torres + 2.0mil, Hangeland
    C) Hazard/Mata, Kagawa, Noble, Torres + 2.0mil, Cuellar

Cant decide at all, help is appreciated!

    personally i go for B.

If David "Rotation Threat" de Gea stays fit, how many games do you expect him to start this year? More than 30?

When would Lindegaard play if SAF wants to give him game time? Easy home games?

You'd need cover for easy games. Basically look for a keeper that doesn't rotate with him

Lads, this is probably my final team - anyone have anyhting to say about it? Advice/feedback appreociated.

    Federici
    Cole, Zabaleta, Gunter
    Yaya, Lampard, VDV, Noble
    Torres(c), Tevez, Petric

    De Gea, McClean, Cuellar, Fonte

Torres to Rooney for GW2, then Cole or Lamps out, should have a solid team for GW3 and players with decent fixtures.

I've gone with B (After a lot of thinking) - RVP screwed me over here...

Did have my team all set, banking on Aguero and Torres battling it out for GB!
