Scout Scribbles – International Round Up

Luis Suarez grabs a goal and a pair of assists in Uruguay’s win over Poland. Juan Mata provides an assist in Spain’s rout of Panama before making way at half-time, Christian Benteke is amongst the goals again for Belgium, while Sergio Aguero plays the full 90 minutes in Argentina’s goalless draw with Saudi Arabia. Here’s a quick round-up of last night’s game time for the Premier League protagonists:

Luis Suarez’s scintillating form shows little sign of letting up. He had a hand in all three of Uruguay’s goals last night, providing two assists and scoring the third in a 3-1 win in Poland. With a home clash against Wigan on the agenda, he’s already been snapped up in huge numbers – having come through last night’s match without injury, more investment can be expected.

Spain’s 5-1 win in Panama saw Juan Mata maintain his recent form by supplying an assist for his side’s third just prior to half-time –his Fantasy owners will be delighted to hear he was given just 45 minutes and was replaced at the break. Santi Cazorla’s owners will be even happier to discover the Arsenal playmaker was an unused sub last night, though both face a long-haul flight back home.

Having opened the scoring for Spurs at City last Sunday, Steven Caulker demonstrated his eye for goal by grabbing England’s second in last night’s 4-2 defeat by Sweden. Danny Welbeck also found the net for the visitors, while Jonas Olsson, Seb Larsson and Alex Kacaniklic all started for the hosts.

England Starting XI: Hart, Johnson (Jenkinson 75), Cahill, Caulker (Shawcross 75), Baines, Gerrard (Huddlestone 75), Osman, Cleverly (Wilshere 62), Sterling (Zaha 84), Welbeck, Young (Sturridge 61)

Newcastle’s Yohan Cabaye was an unused sub in France’s 2-1 win in Italy. Reports suggest the midfielder is now doubtful for the Magpies weekend home clash due to a groin problem sustained in last Sunday’s home defeat by West Ham. Hugo Lloris, Laurent Koscielny, Patrice Evra and Olivier Giroud all started for France, with the latter subbed off just after the hour mark ahead of Saturday lunchtime’s north London derby. Mario Balotelli played the full 90 for the beaten hosts.

Newcastle fans will be pleased to hear Cheick Tiote came through unscathed in Ivory Coast’s 3-0 win in Austria. Yaya and Kolo Toure both featured for the visitors – the latter was handed a 20 minute sub appearance in a match than also saw Villa’s weekend goal hero Andreas Weimann climb off the bench for the hosts.

Villa’s Christian Benteke continued his eye-catching recent form with Belgium’s opener in a surprise 2-1 defeat away to Romania. Simon Mignolet, Vincent Kompany, Jan Vertonghen and Marouane Fellaini were also amongst the starters for the beaten side, while West Brom’s Romelu Lukaku replaced Benteke just before the hour mark.

Sergio Aguero, Fabricio Coloccini and Pablo Zabaleta all played the entire match in Argentina’s bore draw with Saudi Arabia – the most notable event being the a debut for Wigan’s Franco Di Santo. The latter’s team mate Jean Beausejour started for Chile at home to Serbia; the visitors won 3-1, with Branislav Ivanovic and Matija Nastasic playing from start to finish – and Aleksandar Kolarov was withdrawn at half-time. West Brom’s Gonzalo Jara also featured for the hosts, while United’s new forward Angelo Henriquez climbed off the bench to notch his side’s consolation.

Brede Hangeland came through the full 90 minutes for Norway as they clinched a 2-0 win in Hungary. Fulham team mate Mark Schwarzer also played the full game as Australia triumphed 2-1 in South Korea, while Liverpool’s Nuri Sahin was subbed off five minutes from the end of Turkey’s home draw with Denmark.

Germany’s goalless draw with Holland saw a couple of Premier League centre-halves go head-to-head. Ron Vlaar and Per Mertesacker played the full match, while Lukas Podolski made an 18-minute sub appearance for the Joachim Lowe’s side. Spurs’ Emmanuel Adebayor scored the only goal in Togo’s win over Morocco.

West Ham’s Winston Reid was handed 77 minutes in New Zealand’s 1-1 draw with China, while Russia’s home clash with USA saw two Premier League regulars feature. Mark Schwarzer lasted the full match and Stoke’s Geoff Cameron was replaced after 87 minutes. Shola Ameobi made his debut for Nigeria in a 3-1 win over Venezuela, furthering his chances of appearing in this January’s African Cup of Nations.

After several midweek call-offs, Scotland fielded three Premier League players for last night’s win in Luxembourg, with Darren Fletcher, Steven Whittaker and Steven Naismith all playing the full match.

Republic of Ireland handed four Premier League players the full 90. John O’Shea, Ciaran Clark and Seamus Coleman featured in defence in the 1-0 home defeat by Greece, while James McClean was afforded a chance on the flank. The likes of Glenn Whelan, James McCarthy and Shane Long were subbed off in the second-half, while Wes Hoolahan was handed a chance to impress from the bench.

Northern Ireland drew 1-1 at home with Azerbaijan in a World Cup qualifier. Gareth McAuley, Aaron Hughes, Chris Baird, Shane Ferguson, Chris Brunt and Steven Davis all came through unscathed. Elsewhere in World Cup qualifiers, Ali Al Habsi and Maya Yoshida went head-to-head, as Oman lost 2-1 at home to Japan.

Chelsea’s trio of Brazilians – Ramires, David Luiz and Oscar all started in Brazil’s 1-1 draw with Columbia. While the former pair played the full 90, Oscar was subbed off with three minutes remaining. Man City’s Edin Dzeko and Stoke’s Asmir Begovic turned out for Bosnia in a farce of a game in Algeria, played out on a waterlogged pitch – the visitors eventually won the game in the final minute.

Excellent odds imo. The odds are effectively for Holt first goalscorer because United will inevitablty win if that happens.

    Let's talk Spurs.

After watching the Spurs vs City game, thinking back to the weekend previous, it seems obvious that Spurs would benefit hugely from playing both Defoe and Adebayor.

Adebayor's ability in holding the ball up and keeping possession was outstanding but he seems to get almost too involved in that respect. Hence having a goal hanger like Defoe further up the field could only be a good thing? A team like this would surely do wonders:

    ________Lloris/Friedel_________
    Walker Caulker Gallas Vertonghen
    _Lennon Dembele* Sandro Bale_
    __________Adebayor_________
    ___________Defoe___________

    *When fit.

BAE over Caulker when fit too.

I like it. Dempsey isn't much of a passer and Siggy has been average.

Dempsey is wasted at Spurs, I didn't think Sigurdsson would be as well but I guess everyone needs time to adjust. Yeah definitely BAE in, Gallas is captain so can't see him budging.

that's a very nice looking attack.

Ade holding up play and Defoe lurking as you say.
Then you have Lennon and Bale down the wings with Dembele and Sandro and you've got yourself a good attack, not to mention Siggy and Dempsey on the bench

So annoyed - just transferred in Berba to replace a striker I brought in this week for a 4 point hit all because of one simple mistake in seeing if I could afford Berba if he stopped rising from tommorow onwards -_-

So my question is, is (QPR) Cisse to Berba worth an 8 point hit by any chance? Long term btw.

Ok basically I swapped Aguero to Cisse, then later in the week realised I could just about afford Berba and still have a team I'm happy with! Checked FISO, saw Berba rise impending and thought if he rises I can't buy him - so I got him. Then realised my long term team plan included downgrading Bale to Silva -_-. Berba could have rised 0.2m from now and it wouldn't matter!

          So, any previous rash transfers aside, the dilemna is;

Bale to Silva for a 4 point hit? I wouldn't do that.

No Bale to Silva is in the future XD

The problem is I essentially did Cisse to Berba for an 8 point hit (in that 1 transfer itself). I'm wondering if Berba will make up the difference against Cisse.

I don't think he said that at all. Last sentence of the article:

Doesn't hat to throw in the ring mean he won't play? Or is hat in the ring not the same as towel? Anyway he said it'd be 7 days so I guess there is a decent chance he'll play actually.

Their fixtures are: AST - che - wig - EVE - MAN - new, and Aguero will be rested against villa, not the best fixtures..

United will start to strengthen in defence, its just a question of when.Personally I think the best of Ivan's scoring is already done. Straight swap to Rafa while the fixtures are good is a wise move, and allows you to upgrade elsewhere. With Terry out, Chelsea will be weak anyway

Personally, both are in my team, so I am contended not having to deal with this dilemma. When it comes to this GW, not so sure whose one of them is going to score most points. Imo, Fulham - Sund will be a very close game with not so many goals (similar to Fulham - AVilla). Whereas, ManC vs Villa should be full of goals, just because Villa likes to play an open game, which Silva should be able to exploit. That's just me, perhaps, others see it differently.

I'm leaning towards Gorkks. Apparently has the highest CS odds out of the 3 (25%) according to total FPL, and he seems to be on a lucky streak at the moment in terms of attacking points.

Perhaps true. I still think it will definitely have an overall negative effect on him though, more so than if he was playing in Europe.

It's not unlimited subs though, so there's always gonna be players not getting a run out. You're definitely right that Wenger will be fuming though, because he's an angry man! Pointless friendlies are the main problem

So many people thinking of getting rid of Aguero?! You've had him til now, now is the time to get Aguero because of their impending CL exit. Ok, this weekend he might get a 1, but all the same he could come on for 20 mins and bag a brace. I would be sticking if I owned, I'm even looking to get him in soon

Crazy thought, or is it? Current defense Baines Riise Cameron Demel Davies

My thought is Riise -> Rafael next week. Got RVP Ba Berba up top, but I can see myself wanting to get Suarez in at some point. Cuellar has good fixtures, no rotation risk, double gameweek, is playing in a solid defense and is ~2 mill cheaper. Get him instead? Or is Rafael's attacking threat worth it?

This transfer would be done after this GW since Riise has SUN, and yeah that's what I'm thinking. Far from impossible that he'll get more points than Rafael over the next 4 GWs.

Have you considered getting Enrique? I know that ManU fixtures looks sweet in the coming weeks, but Enrique played (1) OP vs Chelsea (got a bonus point), (2) he had a really good game vs Chelsea - making some key passes and had a shot at goal; (3) Liverpool seem to be playing better away than at home; (4) he may be a good differential; (5) cheaper option.

What are the chances that Rooney will start against Norwich? I transferred him in last game week to partner RVP & Berba...but then Hernandez goes and scores a hattrick! Fergie isn't going to start with all 3 against Norwich..

Question is stick with RVP, Rooney & Berba or take Rooney out and add Suarez to the mix for a hit?

      Rafael Smalling* Ferdinand Evra
      _Valencia Anderson Cleverley__
      __________Rooney__________
      ________RVP___Chich_______

Ermmmm there aren'y many options fixture wise, if Ben Arfa was playing anywhere near his FPL potential it'd easily be him. Ramirez still has decent fixtures and probably should have won a penalty vs Swansea which Lambert would have scored. I'd probably suggest him to be honest.

You can always go for Michu, Nolan, Lallana, Mirisson, or consider some differentials, like, Larsson, Walters (both set piece takers). The problem with the later two is that they play for teams, that are just refusing to score more than a single goal per game. Of course, each coin has two sides, which means that with some sweet fixtures in the next 5 GW, one of them should explode.

    Who would you rather have...

    1) Baines, Morrison, Ba

    or

    2) Ridgewell, Silva, Berbatov

(I don't have any other West Brom defenders, I already have Fellaini, and Silva would be my only City player)

I think 2 looks nice, but would leave me with Rafael + 4 budget defenders. Rotation of them could work though?
