Monitor – Dimitar Berbatov

Back in Gameweek 11, Dimitar Berbatov appeared to have sealed the deal. Having fetched a brace and assist in Fulham’s outstanding display at Arsenal, the Bulgarian looked an essential purchase as a third striker option, used in tandem with two heavy-hitters – most likely Robin Van Persie and Luis Suarez.

Under the crafty stewardship of Martin Jol once again, and with form and strong fixtures in front of him, Berbatov looked primed to add to his impressive early goal tally. Since the disappointing home defeat to Sunderland in Gameweek 12, however, he has drawn blanks in every game, a spell that has coincided with the injury and absence of Bryan Ruiz.

With news of the Costa Rican suffering a hamstring setback which could keep him sidelined for another month, it seems timely to examine Berbatov’s form in more detail. In this latest article for members we check on how the absence of Ruiz has changed the Bulgarian’s game, whilst assessing the chances of an upturn in fortunes as Fulham’s fixture list continues to grant Berbatov a platform for returns.

Let’s start by rolling back to Gameweek 11 to examine just how prosperous Berbatov had been in his first six starts for Fulham. Despite missing matches against City and Southampton, the striker had been in outstanding form between Gameweeks 4-11, notching five goals and earning three assists on his way to nine Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points. The double figure return at Arsenal confirmed his class and seemingly “fixture-proof” status and, with an array of attractive opponents in front of him, all looked rosy.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Evening all - I have to do my transfers tonight.

I've already brought in Shorey and I'm toying with bringing in Fletcher for Demba on my 2nd free. Good idea? Yellows on both and very little news.

    Team would be:

    Bego
    Shorey/Carlos Cu/Enrique
    Silva/Carz/Nolan/Michu(c)
    RVP/Berbs/Fletch

    Foster/Sterling/Demel/Rafael

I'd bring Defoe in for Fletch next week. Sorry - Christmas do tomorrow and I hopefully won't be able to focus on the screen when I eventually get in! Been a victim of drunken transfers several times. Transfers have to be done tonight.

Now narrowed it down to Silva or Mata captain. Will Chelsea find a bit of form? Will Mata and Torres finally hit it off? Will Mancini go defensive? So many questions.

One quick question. In everyone's opinion, how nailed on is Defoe now ade is back. AVB is known for only playing 1 up front. Will he play 4-4-2? or just play 1 of them.

No one knows but these are some of the factors

      1) AVB favours 1 up front
      2) AVB loves Defoe, who is on fire, and he likes strikers who just score goals
      3) Spurs dominated Arsenal when both played so maybe this is will be tried out a bit
      4) we will know much more after seeing them play together tonight
      5) need to rest defoe at some point especially if ade goes to African Cup of nations

I think he's as nailed as players are in the modern game. He's at risk for the odd rest, especially now games come fast for a while. Only very few players will get through this period without the random injury or rest.

I think AVB is likely to try and get a system working where both Defoe and Ade plays. Like he did against Arsenal before Ade went crazy.

Nah, I don't see it as crazy. You should play who you think is most likely to do better. I think Gibbs has a good chance of a CS and Enrique too plus potential attacking returns for them both. I can see Reading conceding in both games as they have not shown any defensive form at all.

According to one of my sources, Lallana has
had concrete talks with Newcastle about move
in January. Source, his dad. That's an exclusive.

Depends on your bench. If you can get a full team this week, I would just get Fellaini in for Bale and bank the four points.
