The Community Round Up

In out latest round up we once again take a look back at the best hot topics of the week and find that clean sheets, rotation and a possible Chelsea double gameweek have pre-occupied the community. We also look at the latest goings on in the community leagues taking place over the summer.

Hottest Topics

Professor Absinthe from the University of the “Deadzone”, which opens between 12am and 8am every day on Fantasy Football Scout, has been busy devising a couple of thesis this week analysing clean sheet data. His first looked at promoted sides defences over the last ten years. His shocking conclusions will give those looking for an uber cheap defence nightmares. His second piece of research looked deeper into clearn sheet statistics to see if it is possible to predict a clean sheet.

A probable Chelsea double gameweek at the start of the season prompted Christina to ask whether it is wise to double up on players in the same position, or to spread the risk across midfield and forward positions.

Looking further ahead Fantasy Football Lout has been analysing post January form to see if we can spot any trends as the season reaches its mid way point.

Meanwhile, Giggs Boson invited the community to gaze into their crystal balls and predict which will be the biggest flops in the up coming season.

Members of the community were also on hand to offer some advice around pre-season friendly analysis. Scroobius Mac and King Nil Miss were among those urging caution should fantasy mangers be tempted to take a punt on the next Danny Graham, who was notorious for failing to live up to his good pre season form last season.

Finally, our resident rotation expert In Tommy We Trust has been taking another look at three way rotation options, but this time shunning the traditional home and away format.

Community Leagues

The FFS UEFA Transfer Window Simulation stage reached the midfielder stage this week and saw Hull City, run by Damo and Kuqi Monster snap up the formidable midfield pairing of Iniesta and Bale. Arsenal, led by Zep, also excelled in the game’s simulated transfer market, with its acquisition of Moutinho and Cazorla. Current leaders are Fulham, under the guidance of PeppieandFelix, who managed to buy Mata and Hazard. Round 4 deadline, in which the teams will be looking to purchase strikers, is 23:59 BST this Saturday. Anyone who would like to join can still sign up here.

Elsewhere Conrad’s Confederation Cup Fantasy Football game came to a dramatic conclusion last weekend, with Conrad himself winning. His captaincy of Fred gave him a commanding score of 246, leaving Patrick Star in second and MB10 in third.

Assuming they play 4-2-3-1 it looks like Silva and Navas have two of the spots. That leaves one for Nasri/Aguero/new signing. Don't see Nasri being 1st choice.

Navas is one of those players who fits into the good player / relatively minor fantasy prospect category.

He's like a better Matt Jarvis.

CB plays in the centre/heart of defence.

FB play on the left/right of the defence and attack more during play. But CB's have a chance of scoring from corners, something a FB won't be doing. (that'll do ya 😉 )

As a Championship follower I say it without bias. And I do mean they're crying out in a more literal sense judging by what their fans tell me. Obviously Manchester United seem to be alright without Thiago/Fabregas/Sneijder considering their two titles in the last three years!

Manchester United fans I run into keep mentioning that they lack a true 'central' midfielder and playmaker. Make sense especially considering Scholes' age, and Carrick's more defensive role. I doubt they'd complain too much if a more defensively minded player like De Rossie turned up for a medical though 😉

It all depends on Kagawa i guess. If they play him in the hole with Thiago and Carrick behind, i would expect them to concede a fair few goals.

It's a somewhat redundant comment but it really does depend on what team they are actually playing in* and whether you mean actual football or for Fantasy worth.

*I'm mainly talking about Darren Bent here, of course, given that if he's at Villa I'd rather own Shola Ameobi.

I really like Jay Rodriguez as a player, I think Fletcher and Bent are ideal strikers and do their job (and like them for it, if not adore their style of play) and I know Ruiz is good ...but I'm not much of a fan.

Spurs' LB spot is a field of mines.

Given that he'll also have Dawson (who he came around to massively), Kaboul, Jan Vertonghen and an ever improving Steven Caulker in the mix in the centre there will be weeks when the Belgian plays at left-back too.

I think Shelvey's position is going to be interesting - he's suited to the support striker role so what does that mean for Michu? Really interesting signing I think and, while Patrick's statement is perhaps optimistic, I think there's plenty to discuss around it.

Definitely worth the watch but with Swansea's opening, like Cardiff and their new striker, I think we have the luxury, and common sense to leave them out from initial squad selection and see how they've done in the first few games after a few of the tough ones are done.

This is where hot and cold pricing might be key (using Tommys logic). Make sure you have a swappable player if you're seriously considering.

Gotta be on the watch list I'd say.

I'd want to minimise defenders because they can deduct you points if they are leaky. 352 must surely be the best formation.

Someone remind me how Pochettino was lining up his attack towards the end of last season? I always loved the look of Rodriguez when he played, but Lambert's goal threat is massive too, especially with pens + free kicks.

Just a few points on the Sky game for everyone 3-5-2 is the best formation to deploy.

    1. As defenders can cost you points if they concede many

    2. Midfielders hog points due to the bonus system favouring them heavily.

    Other little points to note:

    1. Arsenal midfielders are very lucrative due to their style of play, I had a minimum of 2, occasionally 3 last year (Arteta, Cazorla, Walcott)

    2. Avoid rotation risks due to limited transfers
