Pre-Season

Pre Season Section Now Live

With July now upon us, the Pre-Season section of the site is up and running once again as we edge towards the first batch of friendlies. We’ve collated the current summer schedule for all 20 Premier League clubs and also added links to every article referencing the upcoming season, from Moving Targets to Sleepers, Great Expectations to Scout Reports to Fixture Analysis pieces, in addition to a look back at the three promoted sides displays in the previous campaign.

We’ll be updating the Pre-Season section on a daily basis, adding every article upon publication. Each team also has their own “Scout Notes” and “Form Players” sections – we’ll be scouring the friendlies and, as well as rolling out plenty of Scout Scribbles articles to cover the games, will be using this as a handy one-stop-shop for your guide ahead of next month’s kick-off.

Probably the best ever match at Wimbledon after Federer Nadal. Unbelievable from Del Potro. Wouldn't like to call this now.

Would it not be better for United to sell Rooney if there is interest? Surely having him off the wage bill and the income for the sale would allow for the purchase of a better, younger player who wouldn't have as high wages, have more impact on big games and not throw tantrums every now and again.

thats my problem with Rooney, he throws tantrums to get more money. Ok all footballers won't money but the way Rooney goes about it is disgraceful. I think we should sell Rooney and Nani and buy a winger who can play in the hole as well, as well as signing Thiago. We do need a new LB, but that can wait as i don't think Baines is the best option. He is 28 and too attacking minded.

Rooney is really under-rated on here. It's fair to say this was one of his worst seasons ever and yet he's scored 23 goals in 44 games for club & country, the season before that he scored 38 in 49. He's still one of the best few players in the league.

I agree with this mostly. I'm not sure about Rooney being the second best player in the league but I do think he's much better than RvP physically and in many technical aspects of the game too. RvP's goalscoring record may be better these past couple of seasons but he's been the focal point of every attack he's played in. Rooney's the better all round player for me. I don't think he's nearly as good as he could have been either.

The Rooney-copter starts it's engines. He had a chat with Moyes and came out of it with him certain to play at United. If he doesn't want to play CM he won't be next season.

no he will play behind RVP. However that means Kags on the wing, and in that position Kags is wasted. Kags imo would play better in the hole.

Stick Rooney on the left and play him as a sort of inside forward. Use Van Persie, Rooney and Kagawa like Fergie did with Ronaldo, Tevez and Rooney, allow them to interchange.

He said it was disrespectful and it wasnt his style to comment on players contracted by other clubs. Also said MUFC would always look to sign the best players. Absolutely no Thiago questions which is odd, may have been banned but don't know:)

One thing I can't understand is why England don't have any World Class players. Yes we have the Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard but they are good but not outstanding. We have one of the best Leagues yet we struggle international at all levels. We were practically embarrassed in the U21 tournament. Do you think PL teams need to work on growing young English talent, instead of buying talent from other countries? In Spain that tactic seems to be working for them?

Wouldn't quite agree with that. The likes of Gerrard and Lampard were World Class players during their prime. 2004-2008.. Yes, they could not work together as a part of the same midfield. Rooney on his day is World Class too. No two ways about it. Very few strikers in modern day football are as versatile as him.

When it comes to international tournaments, England always seem to fall short because of the lack of flexibility and fluidity. 4-5-1 with the likes of Milner and A.Young would never work. Carrick is developing into a fantastic player as well. Just that all of the players never perform at their best at the same time.

The Italian and Spanish leagues, in this regard are at an advantage. Most of their national team members play together week in week out. A pattern is developing in Germany (and was arguably there) with the likes of Bayern and Dortmund. Another thing that England lack. That's not to say that individually English players are far behind the rest

It's complex...but just taking one of your points..."Do you think PL teams need to work on growing young English talent, instead of buying talent from other countries?"...The PL teams get a bit of an unfair criticism for this...Never in the history of the game have clubs looked at so many youth players and spent as much money funding training as they do right now...Just about every club (?) has academies and youth set up and scouting networks looking around the country week in and week out (I live in the NW and my son has regular visits with his team).....So if you accept that it's not the amount of "work" that prem clubs put into developing youth then it must be the quality of the coaching...see SW6's reply....The numbers given were quite staggering...

Because there are no great English tennis players.
England in sports such as tennis, resemble New Zealand in rugby, in that they adopt they sportsmen of smaller local countries and attempt to make them their own.. more so the media than the authorities in Englands case.
But it's mostly the media, the British media (in my opinion) is vile.

It doesn't have to be straight away. Lampard doesn't have long left, and shouldn't be seen as first choice anymore. Luiz is a better CB. I'd expect him to get quite a few starts, and compete for a regular role after next season.

Seriously wish I could take over Moyes' brain for a second just to make United into this:

    ...........De Gea

    Rafael, Vidic, Ferdinand/Evans, Evra

    Thiago/Strootman/Carrick
    Valencia Bale
    Kagawa
    RVP & Lewandowski

Simple: Sell Nani to slightly help fund the Bale move. Sell Rooney for £25m at least by starting a bidding war between the rich clubs and declaring him for sale. Buy Lewo for £30m max as BD apparently rate him at £25m. Forget Baines for now, he's neither a superstar LB or a priority for us, also Bale can't have Baines overlapping his runs because that's just weird.

Next season go for the LB, RM, RB positions as improvement.

    Thoughts?
