The Community Round Up

The launch of the Fantasy Premier League game has dominated discussion this week, as the community’s brainboxes leapt into action to help analyse the new prices and a change to the bonus points system. As well as assessing a tactical “bombshell” on the Sky Sports game, we also roll out our regular look at the community leagues taking place this summer.

Hottest Topics

FPL’s revamped Bonus Point System has caused a lot of debate with the community’s eagle eyed members quick to work out which types of players are set to benefit and which will lose out.  Jack(off)Attack was on hand to let us know that defenders could be the immediate winners, with midfielders and attackers set to have to work far harder for their bonus points.

Bedknobs and Boomsticks then took up the baton for the bonus experts by working out which players will benefit. His analysis shows that support strikers like Fulham’s Brian Ruiz, creative midfielders such as Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta and central defenders such as Phil Jagielka, of Everton, are likely to be among the biggest winners.

Demi was among the first to look at some of the best bargains in the FPL game. A tall and  handsome Bulgarian stranger from West London was among those he spotted in his crystal ball.

Some smelling salts was needed to revive  community members left in shock at a combined £26m price tag for Robin Van Persie and Gareth Bale. Many are opting for just one of these heavy hitters but some community members have worked out a way to get both in their teamLateriser12 and SAB were among those to show that a credible 15 man team can be achieved with these two giants of the game on board.

Meanwhile, In Tommy We Trust has been using the ancient art of his alchemy to separate the gold dust from the fool’s gold within the FPL game.

Over the last week we decided to ask the community to share their expert advice regarding team selection and strategy in the Sky game. D1sable’s bombshell regarding the captaincy rules gave us more than we had bargained for. His news could prove a gamechanger for Sky players. We await official confirmation about his startling discovery.

Form over fixtures is one of those debates that is intrinsic to Fantasy Football  and when it comes to fixtures they don’t come tougher than Swansea’s. But should a poor opening schedule mean we overlook the investment and new faces in the Welsh side? Saniul certainly thinks a focus on fixtures could be overrated when it comes to a team on the rise such as Swansea.

Green Windmill has looked even closer at the fixture list and poses the question; are there any fixture proof players? Turns out there are quite a few as his excellent analysis shows.

When someone starts a post with ‘sorry for the long post but…’ it’s a sure sign that an epic tome is on the horizon. Pirate’s mammoth 2,500 word thesis on fantasy football strategy was exactly that, offering an armada’s worth of insightful thoughts on the game.

Fancy taking a punt on one of the new recruits in the Premier League? Let Pochettini guide you through their key stats up to now in other leagues.

Finally, McNulty’s look at goalkeeper rotation also caught our eye, especially his warnings about falling into a potential rotation trap.

Community Leagues

FFS UEFA’s Transfer Window Simulation game reached its bartering stage  as teams look to swap their assets. A total of six deals were made last week. Chelsea led by Declan, Stoke run by Dynamic, Aston Villa under the guidance of Hvt and Swansea under Joga Bonito‘s leadership were particularly active this week. Big name players such as Radamel Falcao, Thomas Müller and Hulk found new homes. This week teams are bidding on defenders for the second time and submission of midfield targets must also be made by  23:59 (BST) on Saturday. Anyone looking to sign up for the game can do so here.

To me its simple. There is no doubt that RVP will return a vast amount of points, but should I add him to my team along with Bale (whom I must have) then it leaves me with very little wiggle room to fill the remaining spaces in my team. Now since I actually enjoy creating and editing my fantasy team throughout the season it would be counterproductive for me to limit myself.

If I was to create a team and do very little with it throughout the season there is no doubt that I would put RVP in, but since part of the reason why I enjoy this game is the tinkering and adjusting to fit the various game weeks I feel its better to leave yourself plenty of maneuverability in your team.

My personal opinion on the matter. Nothing wrong with having RVP, may even get a better score in the end, but not for me.

True but if I have to do it having to juggle the various players within my budget from clubs such as Cardiff, Hull and Crystal Palace, or instead using players in the top 4 teams, I sure know which I'd prefer and would find the most enjoyable.

I have to say that having RVP and Bale is my side makes me feel a little more confident about captaincy options. I've also managed to fit Sturridge, Walcott and Hazard into my side so it's not as though the side suffers totally. It will be interesting to see how things pan out for people who chose RVP and/or Bale and those who decided to go without.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was on Fergies transfer blueprint that he apparently did up. Someone United have been interested in for a while. Would be a good move for United but I can't see Madrid letting him go very easily.

From our discussion earlier - if rep and hot topics don't matter to you, then you don't have to worry about it. If they do, keep posting interesting stuff, and they will get picked up.

Really struggling, which option is better?

    A. Boruc, Mannone, Clyne, Shaw, Ruiz, Brunt

(goalkeepers don't have H/A rotation and don't know if Mannone is number 1, last 2 players rotate really well first 8 GW)

    B. Boruc, Ruddy, Yanga-Mbiwa, Shaw, Rodriguez, Kacaniklic

(goalkeepers rotate quite well, last 2 players don't have H/A rotation & don't know about Kacaniklic or Yanga-Mbiwa's respective game times )

    Thank you very much!

If you've got the guts and the funds, why not? In last season's case, the Big Five in the midfield were racking up points better and more consistently than the forwards. Riskier, but risk could mean reward. For me, I adjusted between the two when the need arised, but 3-4-3 was more utilised by me.

Historically 343 has been the best and every season their is a debate that it could change maybe this could be the year it does we have to wait and see. 352 seemed to be making inroads last year with the "power 5".

    Snodgrass vs Mirallas

Who do you think will score more?

Snoddie with his set pieces duty and central attacking point of Norwich. Consistency is key.

or the OOP Mirallas who's 'only' 4 assist less despite playing almost half than Snoddie's minute last season? Have a better finisher in Kone to rack up more assist, but just have a change in manager.

I think both could see an increase in assists with having Kone and RvWW to put them away this year.

Will be tight imo but I'm going for Mirallas, going to try have both but if it not possible he will come 1st.

I had a look at this guy yesterday. He scored 3 goals in 33 games with Betis. He's only 21 and due to Swansea's wealth of midfielders, he's likely to be rotated.

But he's only 4.5m and - intriguingly - apparently he's been given the number 10 shirt? One to watch but not one to start with IMO. 🙂

In your real life team? Yes for sure he must be pretty good. In your FPL team? Not really unless it becomes apparent he will get game time.

Berbatov has almost an 80% pass accuracy rate I'm the final third and scored on average a goal every two games. The complete package 🙂

Hmm, Silva/Hazard and Giroud or Theo and Berba

      Don't tempt me with Berba

I love the sexy bar steward (in a purely platonic way) but the fixtures and Fulham's midfield.

If you narrow the fixtures on the ticker and sort by difficulty, Fulham are right up there.

And with all this talk of talismen for the big six, he's is definitely the man. Wish there were more mids in that 7.0-7.5m range I liked as well as the great options at forward.

Jose Mourinho has warned players that being "second choice" at their club could damage their prospects of playing at the World Cup next summer.

More mind games from 'The Happy One'... Surely Chelsea will sign Rooney this transfer window...

Extremely happy with this team but will have to make changes if there is a Chelsea DGW. Only thing I cant decide is two of my front 3.

    Boruc Foster

Jose Enrique Koscielny Coleman Collins Chester

    Bale Mirallas Snodgrass Silva Thomas

    Aguero Sturridge JRod

    My question is

    JRod + Sturridge or

    Lambert + Berbatov

Rod and Sturridge though Sturridge won't be match fit for GW1.

I know the attacking players are expensive but do people not feel that the value (and points) offered by some of the defenders is being overlooked?

Feels like even if you offered every top 6 defender at 5 people would still insist on having 4 x 4.5/4 players so they could squeeze in that extra attacker.

There could be some seriously good picks with some nailed on and attacking starters in big teams that won't feature in many teams here at all.

      Agree.

Coleman, Turner, Nasty, Kosc, Jones is my back 5!

Fighting the urge to downgrade it.

Good side and alot of balance.

Bellamy isn't worth £5.5m imo. Downgrade > Koren/Kaca/Kim, one of your £4.5m defenders > £4m and upgrade Berbatov > Giroud

One of the best I've seen! I might have Hazard instead of Walcott and then transfer him out for Silva after GW1

    Boruc 4.0

    Kaboul - Collins - Turner - Turner - X

    Bale - Hazard - Walcott - Y - Thomas

    Aguero - Sturridge - JRod

    Complete me......
    A) Nastasic + Snodgrass

    B) Nastasic + Cabaye

    C) Saylor + Mirallas

    D) Saylor + Ben Arfa + 0.5m

Provided that Rooney leaves and Chelsea don't have a DGW, my current draft is:

    Boruc - Foster
    Nastasic - Coleman - Clyne - Collins - B.Turner
    Bale - Hazard - Kagawa - Mirallas - Kacaniklic
    Sturridge - Giroud - Berbatov

I'm lacking Man City attack and might have a bit too much faith in Fulham. Thoughts?
