The Community Round Up

The launch of the Fantasy Premier League game has dominated discussion this week, as the community’s brainboxes leapt into action to help analyse the new prices and a change to the bonus points system. As well as assessing a tactical “bombshell” on the Sky Sports game, we also roll out our regular look at the community leagues taking place this summer.

Hottest Topics

FPL’s revamped Bonus Point System has caused a lot of debate with the community’s eagle eyed members quick to work out which types of players are set to benefit and which will lose out.  Jack(off)Attack was on hand to let us know that defenders could be the immediate winners, with midfielders and attackers set to have to work far harder for their bonus points.

Bedknobs and Boomsticks then took up the baton for the bonus experts by working out which players will benefit. His analysis shows that support strikers like Fulham’s Brian Ruiz, creative midfielders such as Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta and central defenders such as Phil Jagielka, of Everton, are likely to be among the biggest winners.

Demi was among the first to look at some of the best bargains in the FPL game. A tall and  handsome Bulgarian stranger from West London was among those he spotted in his crystal ball.

Some smelling salts was needed to revive  community members left in shock at a combined £26m price tag for Robin Van Persie and Gareth Bale. Many are opting for just one of these heavy hitters but some community members have worked out a way to get both in their teamLateriser12 and SAB were among those to show that a credible 15 man team can be achieved with these two giants of the game on board.

Meanwhile, In Tommy We Trust has been using the ancient art of his alchemy to separate the gold dust from the fool’s gold within the FPL game.

Over the last week we decided to ask the community to share their expert advice regarding team selection and strategy in the Sky game. D1sable’s bombshell regarding the captaincy rules gave us more than we had bargained for. His news could prove a gamechanger for Sky players. We await official confirmation about his startling discovery.

Form over fixtures is one of those debates that is intrinsic to Fantasy Football  and when it comes to fixtures they don’t come tougher than Swansea’s. But should a poor opening schedule mean we overlook the investment and new faces in the Welsh side? Saniul certainly thinks a focus on fixtures could be overrated when it comes to a team on the rise such as Swansea.

Green Windmill has looked even closer at the fixture list and poses the question; are there any fixture proof players? Turns out there are quite a few as his excellent analysis shows.

When someone starts a post with ‘sorry for the long post but…’ it’s a sure sign that an epic tome is on the horizon. Pirate’s mammoth 2,500 word thesis on fantasy football strategy was exactly that, offering an armada’s worth of insightful thoughts on the game.

Fancy taking a punt on one of the new recruits in the Premier League? Let Pochettini guide you through their key stats up to now in other leagues.

Finally, McNulty’s look at goalkeeper rotation also caught our eye, especially his warnings about falling into a potential rotation trap.

Community Leagues

FFS UEFA’s Transfer Window Simulation game reached its bartering stage  as teams look to swap their assets. A total of six deals were made last week. Chelsea led by Declan, Stoke run by Dynamic, Aston Villa under the guidance of Hvt and Swansea under Joga Bonito‘s leadership were particularly active this week. Big name players such as Radamel Falcao, Thomas Müller and Hulk found new homes. This week teams are bidding on defenders for the second time and submission of midfield targets must also be made by  23:59 (BST) on Saturday. Anyone looking to sign up for the game can do so here.

Ramirez and Aguero for me. I like Silva but I don't think I'd ever captain him.

Leaning towards A myself, like you say captaining Aguero is easier than Silva. If City sign more strikers i can always review 🙂

      Neither.

Newcastle have decent fixtures, but Yanga-Mbiwa and S Taylor fight for the same spot. It's 50/50 whether he will start.

As for Amorebieta, a no-no from me. Not decent fixtures, and a card magnet.

I believe he'll take one of the more holding midfield positions. Ousting Howson, Johnson or Tettey. Snodgrass for a tiny fistful of 0.5 more is a better choice imo.

Posted this last night but here it is again but with a few changes!:
Here are my punts from each team to open the season:

Arsenal -Wilshere - if he stays injury free he could have a lot of assists and a couple goals thrown in.

Villa - Agbonlahor- I think that both Benteke and Bent will leave Villa to Liverpool and the Toon respectively. This will open up a gap for Agb as long as Lambert doesn't sign another st. He was impressive towards the end of last season so migh hit the pitch running 😉

Cardiff - Bellamy - sure he is very well known and this doesn't need explaining.

Chelsea - couldn't call too many options

Palace - Gayle - new signing and he is up and coming real fast. If he gets good service could be a handy punt.

Everton - Jelavic - Kone's presence might give him a little kick up the arse (hopefully)

Fulham - Riether - we all know of his talents but only selected by 3.2 % and 5.0 is a good price for a defender!

Hull - Elmohamady - always liked him and he has a more cemented position (i believe) and he is a good attacking prospect, saw him a couple times last season and was impressed.

Liverpool - Aspas - if suarez is sold him and studge could be idea but with studge 2.0 more and with a huge 22% selection he could be a good differential.

City - Richards - Only 0.8% selection and although he is pricey he is coming back to fitness and could give Zabaleta a run for his money - however even I wouldn't go here!

United - Kagawa, disappointing last season so has a lot to prove and i think he will do it!

Newcastle - Gouffran - made a strong entrance in the french army brought in by pardew and should carry on well.

Norwich - Redmond - As an Everton fan when we were rumoured to be signing this player I was delighted... however he is now playing in the custard kit of Norwich. He is quick and young and if he cements is place could have a successful season, perhaps this years Sterling?

So'ton - Rodriguez - Goal getter, assist maker, low price option

Stoke -Brek Shea - another player yet to prove himself but is highly rated in America.

Sunderland - Altidore - a great player imo and will defo. be in my team this season!

Swansea - Hernandez - went through phases and am expecting the same this season, you know 2,1,0,12,0,2,4,10

Spurs - Holtby - young player and if he clicks in could be very impressive indeed!

West Brom - Anelka - Lots of competition up front now Lukaku has left but if Anelka cements his role then he could be back to his old goalscoring self...... maybe

West Ham - Vaz Te - if Carroll is injured then Vaz Te may have to step up into his rather large shoes...

    I hope you like it....

Amorebieta played in a total of 47 official matches in 2009–10, helping Athletic reach the round-of-32 in the season's UEFA Europa League, as well as an 8th-place finish in the league; he collected 18 yellow cards in the process, being sent off twice.[4]

    A poem.

    Farewell Demel.

You were an incredible asset in FPL,
Always pick, Always captain, Never sell,
The plaudits were all for ya' mate O'Brien
But we knew you were the true lion,

Alas, a replacement has been found by Allardyce,
The only bench you deserve to sit on is in paradise,
Now a new Demel we must seek,
A player we can truly trust every week.

You even provided us an odd assist,
Something we'd celebrate with the pump of a fist.
Constantly subbed at the 60 minute mark,
For not seeing that you're essential - Sam should be eaten by a shark.

    Your eyes alluringly brown,
While watching you one thing that never crossed our face was a frown.
But FPL knew that you were such a hero
That your price has risen to five point zero.

Now you appear to be a non-starter,
Forever they've made you a martyr.
I must stop soon because it's making me mad,
No demel is so so so bad.

Now you've been replaced by a Rat,
Loyal to you we consider him a prat.
For replacing you Allardyce is worse,
Woe is me, I think I need a nurse.

    Farewell for now Demel, Farewell.

Took me and a couple of colleagues about 3 hours. About an hour of that was spent just refining it though and making sure it worked as a piece of literature as well as a conveying a message about Demel. Would have posted it earlier but someone wanted me to prioritise preparing an aged debtors report over Demel.

Don't think so. IIRC Ivanovic got a red in the community shield but it only counted for non-competetive games.

Utd intend to offload a host of players, would imagine Nani is high on the list. Until they have completed all their wheeling and dealing impossible to forcast their preferred eleven. That won't be it though, of that I am certain.

Perhaps not but as with the Baines bid, there is big money available which they will spend somwhere.
