The Community Round Up

The launch of the Fantasy Premier League game has dominated discussion this week, as the community’s brainboxes leapt into action to help analyse the new prices and a change to the bonus points system. As well as assessing a tactical “bombshell” on the Sky Sports game, we also roll out our regular look at the community leagues taking place this summer.

Hottest Topics

FPL’s revamped Bonus Point System has caused a lot of debate with the community’s eagle eyed members quick to work out which types of players are set to benefit and which will lose out.  Jack(off)Attack was on hand to let us know that defenders could be the immediate winners, with midfielders and attackers set to have to work far harder for their bonus points.

Bedknobs and Boomsticks then took up the baton for the bonus experts by working out which players will benefit. His analysis shows that support strikers like Fulham’s Brian Ruiz, creative midfielders such as Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta and central defenders such as Phil Jagielka, of Everton, are likely to be among the biggest winners.

Demi was among the first to look at some of the best bargains in the FPL game. A tall and  handsome Bulgarian stranger from West London was among those he spotted in his crystal ball.

Some smelling salts was needed to revive  community members left in shock at a combined £26m price tag for Robin Van Persie and Gareth Bale. Many are opting for just one of these heavy hitters but some community members have worked out a way to get both in their teamLateriser12 and SAB were among those to show that a credible 15 man team can be achieved with these two giants of the game on board.

Meanwhile, In Tommy We Trust has been using the ancient art of his alchemy to separate the gold dust from the fool’s gold within the FPL game.

Over the last week we decided to ask the community to share their expert advice regarding team selection and strategy in the Sky game. D1sable’s bombshell regarding the captaincy rules gave us more than we had bargained for. His news could prove a gamechanger for Sky players. We await official confirmation about his startling discovery.

Form over fixtures is one of those debates that is intrinsic to Fantasy Football  and when it comes to fixtures they don’t come tougher than Swansea’s. But should a poor opening schedule mean we overlook the investment and new faces in the Welsh side? Saniul certainly thinks a focus on fixtures could be overrated when it comes to a team on the rise such as Swansea.

Green Windmill has looked even closer at the fixture list and poses the question; are there any fixture proof players? Turns out there are quite a few as his excellent analysis shows.

When someone starts a post with ‘sorry for the long post but…’ it’s a sure sign that an epic tome is on the horizon. Pirate’s mammoth 2,500 word thesis on fantasy football strategy was exactly that, offering an armada’s worth of insightful thoughts on the game.

Fancy taking a punt on one of the new recruits in the Premier League? Let Pochettini guide you through their key stats up to now in other leagues.

Finally, McNulty’s look at goalkeeper rotation also caught our eye, especially his warnings about falling into a potential rotation trap.

Community Leagues

FFS UEFA’s Transfer Window Simulation game reached its bartering stage  as teams look to swap their assets. A total of six deals were made last week. Chelsea led by Declan, Stoke run by Dynamic, Aston Villa under the guidance of Hvt and Swansea under Joga Bonito‘s leadership were particularly active this week. Big name players such as Radamel Falcao, Thomas Müller and Hulk found new homes. This week teams are bidding on defenders for the second time and submission of midfield targets must also be made by  23:59 (BST) on Saturday. Anyone looking to sign up for the game can do so here.

Don't think he'll get the gametime to be a consistent option. He'll probs score well when he does play though.

Mata and Hazard should play the majority of games I would have thought, though if De Bruyne is going to part of this season's plans as well, all the options could end up suffering from rotation.

Mata: Assuming the rumours are not true about leaving/being dislike by mourinho, he should be rewarded by the new bonus points. His versatility has been mentioned by his manager or he could start in any of the 3 behind the striker.

Hazard showed an upturn of form at season and does come in a full 1 million cheaper. Again, we'd be guessing as to what's going on in Mourinho's head; Hazard also suddenly appears to want to play in the hole, despite admissions to the contrary in the past, as well as stating a preference for wing roles.

Lampard, while a Mourinho fave, will probably be rotated due to his age. I'd expect a productive campaign and plenty of games played in the League and Europe combined.

Oscar - not looking great considering Mourinho's track record with youngsters.

The reality is all are prone to rotation considering Schurrle and Van Ginkel have arrived, and the thought of spending 8 - 10.5 million on any player that is not guaranteed to start does not sound appealing.

Again, I wouldn't even be able to hazard(!) a guess. Out of those three, I would say Mourinho would prefer Lukaku as he is in the Drogba mould.

The situation is muddy enough as it is without Rooney being added into the mix. We could keep second guessing who would start GW1 but until the first few gameweeks are over I wouldnt want to touch any attacking Chelsea asset. Even then, it would be with some trepidation.

I found it interesting how dismissive people were earlier about the likes of Adam Johnson and Sessegnon who were in their opinion 'overpriced'.

7m to me is a decent evaluation of their potential. A lot of people I've noticed have been quite happy to entertain the idea of getting Nolan at 7m. Is he more correctly a 7m player than these guys?

If we look at the FPL scores from last season, Nolan outscored AJ only by 2 points and Sessegnon by about 8. But remember, Nolan scored a hat-trick on the last day meaning without that he would have trailed both of these guys.

To me AJ has a lot more to offer and at 7m could offer value. He has youth on his side, a thing that Nolan doesn't and more to prove.

It annoys me when people dismiss players right off the bat because they are 'unfamiliar' with owning them.

Open your eyes people...and spread the love.

    Peace.

Are you a Sunderland fan by any chance?

Nolan outscored AJ by 2 points playing alongside Carroll for less than a full season. Carroll will be fit for the start of the season and is crucial to Nolan's points.

You cannot isolate a hattrick as it doesnt matter when it occured in the season, the fact it occured is all that mattered.

Also I dont believe that AJ will be a major beneficiary of Paulo, seems to have too fragile personality for me to cope well.

I disagree that you can't isolate that hat-trick, it was against an already relegated Reading and it was the last day of the season when the match was inconsequential. Nolan would do great in the championship but I feel he will struggle to match his 7m price this season. He started brightly last season but fizzled out completely for so long. AJ to his credit went on some much more consistent runs of goals and assists. And assists are something he has in his locker. Nolan does not.

I do agree with you here. It's strange that in the history of the game, only Nolan/Carroll to my memory score literally 0 points when they don't play together. You wouldn't pay 7m for a player that can't play without a mate. Nolan went on the biggest slump I've ever seen from November, can you imagine Snodgrass only getting points alongside Holt, AJ only scoring if Fletcher plays, Mirallas only doing well as long as Anichebe starts? But that seems to be the excuse, Nolan was allowed between gw12-37 as dead time as Carroll wasnt holding his hand so thats ok. It's madness.

And you can partly discount that final day haul. Final days are always madness (I won my ML cos of Lukaku's second half), it was against a relegated team, and they were the leakiest defence by a mile.

Haven't looked at it but is the change mainly for when there are 0-0s or 1-0s. I remember some games last year where it was 0-0 and I think Bale and Felliani got 3 baps or something. Is it those sort of things that will change?

Yup, in those games the most effective and involved players should get baps under the new system. More defensive aspects are awarded this year as compared to last year.

But how many 0-0 0-1's are there in a season? Especially not at the start of a season.

Call me arrogant, Call me self-absorbed, Call me deluded,

I look at all these RMTs and laugh, i tell you, LAUGH beacuse it makes me realize what a walkover this game will be for me.

Almost everyone i see on here is trying to balance out their team evenly which is an awful tactic for this game. The only ones who i consider good enough to challenge me are the ones looking to go in with rubbish defenders and keepers.

Make this a hot topic so everyone can view your future champions already

With Stefan Jovetic looking more and more likely to sign for Manchester City with every passing hour. How much are we looking at him in FPL price wise? I'd love 9.5, but I see him coming in between 10-11 million. I can dream of 9.5...

I'd like to hope for lower, I am kinda sad he isn't heading to Arsenal. Arsenal seem like they are window shopping more than actually spending money, kinda what I do to be fair.

I'd imagine about 10 and don't think he'd get goals to be worth that much, as he'll play in behind Aguero/Dzeko/Negredo.

    Breaking News:

MANUEL PELLEGRINI has left Manchester City’s South African training camp to spend a few days back home in Chile.

The new manager took a flight out of Durban early this morning as he had a personal issue to attend to in Santiago.

It means assistant boss Brian Kidd will be in charge when the Sky Blues take on Amazulu in Durban tonight.

Pellegrini is not expected to return to South Africa before the club leave here and fly to Hong Kong on Sunday afternoon.

However the club are confident the former Malaga coach will be back with the party for the Barclays Premier League Asia trophy next week.

He is pencilled in to give a Press conference in the Far East on Tuesday and it remains to be seen whether he will be back by then.

They are due to take on South China on Wednesday with another game against either Sunderland or Tottenham next Saturday.

The 59-year-old only took charge of training for the first time on July 8 and his first game ended in a 2-0 defeat to Supersport United in Pretoria on Sunday.

Was on twitter trying to find team line up and it just randomly appeared, and has only been confirmed past 30/40 minutes or so.
Least we still get to see players playing, but it kinda throws out how he is going to field people tactically, hopefully Kidd sticks to the notes left behind!

I'd take a look at the Community Round Up articles; someone on the first page has put up a link to the previous ones in there.

I think there's a Ricky Van Wolfswinkel bandwagon, perhaps Bony too. And someone has penned a ballad to Demel.

So what's the scenario at the Etihad right now? City are looking to most probably end up with Aguero, Negredo, Jovetic and Dzeko?

Who would be the best pick for the first few weeks off that lot or just get Silva instead? Assuming that Negredo and Jovetic come in at around the 10.0/10.5 mark.

Is there anyone around that follows/followed Pellegrini in the past. Does he have a penchant for rotation?

I always consider what I read in newspapers to be primarily fiction, especially when it relates to football.

That being said it would not be too surprising if Arsenal came through the transfer window having signed no one but odd bits of 'youth'.
