HomeCrowd Tweaks

Tonight we’ve introduced a few changes to the HomeCrowd comments system – the main tweak being the removal of the downvote mechanism to put more emphasis on upvoting in order to ensure comments remain useful, entertaining and friendly.

We’ve taken this decision after gathering feedback from the community and undertaking lengthy discussion behind the scenes. We want to ensure there remains a strong focus on positive interaction between community members and to reduce any misuse of the voting system. It appeared that there was clear confusion on how the downvote should be used and the mechanic had also become secondary as an aid to moderation.

Many of the major social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook only have positive feedback options, such as ‘like’ and ‘favourite’ and we’ve decided to follow their lead. As before, please be sure to upvote any comment that you find useful and that you feel benefits the community.

In order to allow users to flag up any comments that they feel warrant moderator attention, we’ve also made a slight change by renaming the “report” button to “flag”. Please use the flag button if you feel a comment post is disruptive or abusive and a moderator will take a look and act on it if required.

Finally, we have removed the publicly displayed reputation level badges. Again, these caused some confusion and while we’ve kept them and the hidden reputation system behind them, the badges can now only be seen within a poster’s profile.

Thank you to everyone for your feedback during the first few weeks of HomeCrowd, it has been invaluable to helping us evolve it. Once the season begins and traffic levels settle, we will hopefully have the opportunity to start adding new features.

any opinions on my team would be much appreciated, pretty happy with it.

    Mannone (Davis)

Mertesacker , azpilicueta , Parr (Turner, Chester)

Coutinho , Cazorla , Hazard , Mirallas (Thomas)

    RVP , Anelka , Lukaku

pretty happy with it, hoping azpil will get a decent amount of gametime in the dgw, any suggestions are much appreciated!

That goalkeeping situation looks incredibly risky. Mannone is not 100% nailed on, and Davis won't play ahead of Boruc.

I would recommend getting better goalkeepers.

Downgrade Mertesacker to Toure, upgrade Davis to a playing keeper.

You can also downgrade Cazorla to Walcott to get 0.5m to upgrade Azpilicueta to Luiz or Cole or Ivanovic.

Not a bad team. Be ready to shift to get City offense though.

yeah you talk alot of sense, for me cole is the only chelski defender to have a more nailed on position than azpilicueta, but i may be very wrong, i just like the look of cazorla more than walcott due to this new bonus system, once i figure out whos going to be playing regularly for city i will be trying to make the switch!

Someone please attempt to convince me that I should have Coutinho instead of Gerrard.

My logic for opposing the trend is thus:

Gerrard is virtually guaranteed to play every game. In the past, barring injury-plagued seasons, he has always provided a minimum of 159 points. Even if his form deserts him he is still always liable to grab a goal, and won't be dropped.

Coutinho on the other hand has only been here for half a season, and I don't understand why he's getting picked by so many with what seems to be an inflated price tag of 9m. Whilst he has looked impressive, he's young and fairly lightweight. If he loses form he may be dropped/rested, and may not be able to cope with the rigours of the Premier League over the course of a full season. Playing from a flank in a front 3 he also has more competition for a place, with Sturridge, Aspas, Borini, Alberto, Sterling and Suarez (if he stays) all capable of playing there.

Someone explain to me why I'm wrong and I shall reconsider my selection 🙂

He is too good to be a bench warmer. He will be played up the field where as gerrard will be a deep midfielder. Coutinho has a killer pass and great vision and have proven he can score goals. Only reasons i'd consider Gerrard are set peices and game time. But pretty sure coutinho will get just as much game time

      Your answer is form.

Coutinho's stats from last season indicate he will outscore Gerrard. He has a higher PPG and PPM. His position is also much more offensive.

IMO, if they get equal minutes, which they should, since Coutinho is a much better player than any of his competition at the club, he'll score more.

They will both do similarly well but Coutinho is far more exciting. in 900 minutes last season he got 70 points, that could easily become 200 in a full season.

I just don't think half a season from such a young player is reason enough to assume he will continue that form. Too many things can go wrong. Just surprised there aren't more people (only 6.1%) going for the more tried and tested option.

Thoughts on my team without Bale -

    Migs - Mannone

    Cole - Parr - Chester - Clyne - Riether

    Walcott - Thomas - Hazard - Noble - Coutinho

RVP - Lambert - 6.5 (Hooper atm but hopefully Remy/Bent at the toon)

    Mignolet

    Collins Mertersacker Toure

    Nolan Bale Silva Hazard

    Lukaku Bony Berbatov

Subs : Boruc, Coleman, Shaw, Thomas.

    Reasons...

GK - Mignolet a guaranteed starter now Reina has been forced away, so im happy to have him every week even against the top teams. McGregor as back up - don't understand why people have 4.0m keepers that wont play, you may aswell have a regular backup for an extra .5 so either Boruc, Mannone or McGregor. My choice of McGregor based on the way Steve Bruce sets up his sides - defensive, Hull could get alot of clean sheets against lesser teams.

DEF - Mertersacker, nailed on starter for arsenal + decent opening fixture list. Toure, i believe he'll start he's a great defender and BR has been singing his praises pre-season. Collins - WHam opening fixtures are too good to resist, and he'll definitley start. Coleman - great pre-season, looks to have nailed the RB slot and alcaraz roating with distin in the centre. Shaw, hopefully will show the promise of last season and chip in with a few assists.

MID - Bale - must have unless he leaves, Silva - surely he'll refind the form under Pelligrini, can see him using him the way he used Isco last season, potentially a bargain at 9m. Hazard, mourinho will get the best out of him, high hopes. Nolan - like collins, early fixtures too good to ignore will be replacing for snodgrass / zaha depending if he plays regular around GW4/5. Jerome Thomas is there because hes cheap, he'll start and although he wont do much he provides money for elsewhere in the team.

FW - Bony is a punt, who knows if he can carry his Eredisive form to the EPL my bets he can, so ive gone with him. Lukaku a snip at 8m, torres can't hit a barn door and BA can play LW just aswell as CF...+ the DGW he's a must. Berbatov - look at his record, every season he plays he delivers - i genuinley hate the bloke and his attitude but my god he carrys fulham - you'd be a lunatic not to include him 🙂

Yeah, don't fancy 3 because come GW3 you'll have 3sub players without a game, unless you sub them 1 a week...wasting subs in my opinion that, i try and keep using subs clear and let them build up abit for the first few weeks...then can make a few changes at once without getting minus points.

I don't share the same excitement as you for this team.

Bony - I am intrigued but fixtures are very tough

Berbatov - not the best fixtures either. Though not killers, I understand.

Silva - I like him and think he'll improve from last term. But still, he's an assist man, not goals. I would look to get in Walcott instead.

Everyone has their own opinions 🙂

I agree with Bony, but Man Utd first game - Jelavic scored against united first game of the season last year, so im sure Bony can aswell. Looks strong, but i agree it's definitley a punt - if he does flop he'll be out my team.

As regards to berba, yes the man is a mug and yes he'll go 6games without scoring, but then he'll score 2 a game for like 10games. Frustrating, but if you look at his stats i think he's nailed on over other people because he's done it for 5 or so years on the trot now.

I'd have Walcott every day of the week if i knew he'd be playing CF - he was unreal there last year, but Wenger is a clown at times. Who knows 🙂

      Berbs and Lambert.

Dzeko great pre-season but god knows who's going to play upfront for City. I'd avoid city strikers like the plague until a few game weeks into the season.

    A)
    Mannone (Boruc)
    Luiz coleman Collins (Chester,Turner)
    Hazard Silva walcott coutinho (Thomas)
    RVP JRod Anelka

    B)
    Masrshall (McGregor)
    Mertesacker coleman Collins (Clynn, Parr)
    Hazard Silva walcott coutinho Tonev
    RVP Anelka (JRod )

Any thoughts the gk can be either of the 2 combinations since they have the same price and Turner and Parr can be switched so its primarly
Mertesacker Clynn Tonev or Luiz chester Thomas

      Mertesacker Clyne Tonev.

Luiz is a great player, doesn't score often nor does he assist much, so apart from the fact he gets clean sheets he's abit expensive for me.

Regarding the keepers. McGregor and Boruc for me.

McGregor - hull play very defensive, don't score alot but also don't concede many (bar against the top teams no doubt)

Boruc, southampton going to imrpove ... can see him being the Begovic of last season I.E increasing in value rapidly.

James Morrison. Priced at 6.0. Rotates well with Koren and now that WBA have a fit midfield again he should be back in the hole. On the back of a couple of solid season and at the age of 27, playing in his peak. Great POD imo.

This transfer window will define the next few years for liverpool and tottenham I feel, being the the two maine contenders for CL football and having arguebly the two best players of last season in their sides, eager to leave for bigger clubs. But they should not take the money offered, regardless of size, because they can not attract good enough players to reinvest the money short term securing a top 4 finnish and laying the ground to be a long term top side in PL. And that what it is all about, for supporters, players, owners and everyone who belongs to the club. All the millions of £ cannot replace historical moments of success and glory. The heartbeat of football.
So hold on, Spurs and Pool.

So better to force players who no longer want to be there to play for you ?
How much commitment can they have anymore ?
Once their head is turned its just about getting what you can and moving on.

Far too much £ invested in defense
      Bale probably going to RMD
      Bellamy @ 5.5 is a waste of 1m
Move some of the Defense/Bale money into your attack - It's far too weak at the moment

Have to agree with the others here, some tweaks needed IMO.

Bellamy, i can see you're thinking - big name player / done it in the past but in all honesty he blew hot and cold for Cardiff last season. He's a marquee player more.

2 much spent on defence IMO, anyone can score against anyone so going all out on defence is risky. Baines is a safe bet, but at 7.5 he's steep unless he goes to MU i wont be having him.

      Id have Berbatov over Kone.

I don't like the idea of a 4m keeper...what happens if mignolet gets injured or suspended?

Rest of the team, great 🙂
