Rate My Team – Under The Hood Preview Movie

Grab the popcorn, it’s Saturday night at the movies. We conclude our Rate My Team preview set with an epic 14-minute, stat filled video outlining just how “Professor” Chris Atkinson’s statistical model works.

Admittedly, this is one for the hardcore number freaks but, even so, we hope this offers some insight into the workings behind the Projections and the Rate My Team tool and the effort we put in to maintain it.

If you missed parts one and two of this series, you can catch them here and here.

Fantasy Football Scout Memberships are now available for the pre-season price of £12.50.

What is Rate My Team?
Rate My team is a statistical model built specifically to assess every player in the Premier League and return their expected values for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points in a given Gameweek. The system is a complex and thorough one which, of course, plots the probabilities of a player’s time on the pitch, their expected number of goals, assists, bonus points, yellow and red cards, clean sheets, own goals, goals conceded and saves. The strength of the opponent they are facing in a given Gameweek is also crucial; so every team has an attacking and defensive rating, every player a probability of playing a given match with injuries, suspensions and international absence factored in.

How Can It Help Me?
If you’re a member you can use the Rate My Team tool in a number of ways. Firstly, you can use it as a projections tool to predict what specific players will score, on average, over the next X number of Gameweeks. As you would have seen in our first movie, you have a players table that can be filtered by position or FPL cost and which can be extended to show any number of Gameweeks. You can also sort on “Value” to find those players projected to offer the best points per million return.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I agree with Dave in that Lukaku and dzeko are lottery tickets, they could pay off but it's just as likely they won't play very much. I'd swap one to berbs/lambert/Rodriguez and maybe upgrade the defense. I don't think baker is first choice.

Dzeko was the most prominent City's hitman last season though he rarely started any match.
He's on fire even in the pre season matches.I will definitely give him a try.

What are Jay Rodriguez's playing prospects likely to be? Im worried he was given a more prominent role at the end of last season as players like Lambert started to show some fatigue.
If he plays I see him as on option to keep some cash in my bank for an RVP switch down the line

    Hey guys,

At present my keepers and backline look like this:

    Boruc, foster

    Clyne, Collins, Murner, Coleman, Mert

I don't like having two Southampton players there so looking for another 4.5 defender. I'm wondering who will partner collocini in Newcastle defence Saylor or Mbiwa? Anyone know how they have lined up so far? Similarly Wilson was a good cheapy at stoke last year but with Hughes there is he nailed on anymore? I originally had Amorbeita at Fulham but heard his discipline is not great.

    Any other suggestions??

    Cheers

I would take some money from defence e.g. Boruc to 4.0 and downgrade Cole (i like cheap defence) and spend the money upfield - lukaku and hooper and pozuelo and soldado could be a punt or two too many imo

          FWIW, I don't think it's terrible.

The only big concern is the lack of double gameweekers. Pick up a Chelsea defender over Zab, downgrade Mertesacker, and then get a striker with more appealing fixtures than Berbatov.

Not many Baines pickers here, and could give you a leg up.

Is there really THAT confidence in Chelsea's defence? Don't think so to be honest. Cashley for example could end up with 4 points total for DGW and he is playing Man United away comes gw2. So why pick him over Zaba? Ok. Get a striker with more appealing fixtures than Berbs. But whom to pick? There is really no value in the market atm.

If / When Bale goes to RM if he was not before surley RVP is essential from GW4

Therfore I was planning this mob, any thoughts would be welcome

    Migs (lowest % 4.0GK)
    COLE / Mert / Coleman / Mbiwa / Brayford
    HAZARD / Walcott / Mirallas / Nolan / Thomas
    LUKAKU / Dzeko / JROD

    5.5m in the bank

    Over the first 3 GWs
    Cole > 4m def
    Lukaku > RVP
Dzeko > Saldado (only if Dzeko has not nailed down a spot)

Why do people have an issue with Nolan scoring nearly all his points at home, surely this means we can just pick him for most home games, get most of his points and then play A.N.Other for the games where he probably won't get any points? Surely having nearly all his points in only a limited amount of games that we can roughly predict is an advantage compared to them spread out across all the matches?

Solid, but only if your forwards get game time. I'm still not buying into the Dzeko hype until I see it. I've got lukaku now, plan on getting rid of him after week 1, but will bring him back in if he's getting regular starts. That said, I wouldn't have him in my team if my other forward was somewhat of a question mark.

You can't just say DGW aside. It's a really important matter.

I'd take A to start. There's no doubt at least in my mind that B will score better over the season, but the start of the season is a sprint and you can't come out slow.

I think it is safe to assume now that Bale will leave, and RVP becomes very necessary as captaincy material.

    Mignolet, Jakupovic,
    Terry, Collins, Clyne, Turner, Brayford,
    Hazard, Walcott, Mirallas, Snodgrass, Thomas,
    RVP, Lukaku, Aspas.

I have found a lot of Dzeko love on this site, but would wait on City - feel safer with Aspas.
Would have loved to fit in a City/Arsenal defender, but looks like I'll have to wait till Week:2 to do that.

    Your thoughts?

We are running out of time for Bale.

With the kind of fixtures that City have, I reckon its worth a punt on Dzeko. Otherwise you miss out on the fixtures

Do you think ronaldo would rather :

    1. He scores 50 goals in next seasons la liga, Madrid finish second.
    2. He scored 25 goals, bale stars scoring 35 as Madrid win la liga

2 - Ronaldo is egotistical but I don't believe he'd rather goals than a La Liga/Champions League winners medal.

I know the Toon are in semi-meltdown with the second hand car dealer now running the show, but their fixtures over the first part of the season arent that bad and they have some talented mids. Is anyone considering Cabaye, HBA or Sissoko? Im tempted to slip in Sissoko given his attractive fixture for GW3 when we will need everyone playing. Will he mirror any of last seasons form?

Any insight or views from anyone, Toon fan or not?

only that at 6.0 he could be a steal...or maybe not...If you're gonna totally go out on a limb then he'd be as good as anybody for price/puntyness...

    Thoughts on my team:

    Migs Marshall
    Mert Toure Collins Coleman Brayford
    Walcott Hazard Mirallas Nolan Koren
    RVP Lukaku Anelka

Plan is to rotate Koren and Anelka, and Collins and Coleman.
Not sure I feel comfortable with Nolan,
but I may not have him for long if I need cash to upgrade lukaku to soldado or whoever is on form.

    Cheers

    Hey guys,

    How about this?

    Foster Boruc

    Collins, Murner, Mbiwa, Coleman, Mert

    hazard, Walcott, Silva, Koren, Diame

    Rvp, Lukaku, jrod

0.5 in bank possibly for lukaku to giroud after dgw.

Off topic but know some guys love the cricket.

England bat a session avoid the follow on say 150 behind, leaving 5 sessions for Australia to force a win. Australia would need 4 sessions to bowl England out which leaves 1 session to rack up 150 enter Watson and Warner. This would leave England 300ish to win

Anybody else think this is possible or am i just kidding myself, not a england follower

    England currently trading at 30/1
