Sky Sports Analysis – Goalkeeper Bonus Save Points

As mentioned in a previous article, there’s been a handful of new rules introduced to the Sky Sports Fantasy game this season. One of the most welcome additions is the move to reward goalkeepers with bonus points – stoppers will now receive two extra points if they make five or more saves in a match, thus boosting their appeal and forcing us to reassess their worth in the season ahead.

The Sky Sports table for Goalkeepers in the Members Area now includes the bonus points from saves that would have been accrued for the past two seasons. In this evening’s article for Members, we’ve analysed these numbers in full, assessing the impact the new bonus system is likely to have on our Sky Sports selections.

De Bruyne's performance during pre-season is so tempting. Almost be starter during pre-season if fit. Consistent in goal and assist. Deliver world class goal also. Take all set-pieces, even with Hazard in the field also. Played in the "hole" with less competition in this place. Mata, Hazard, Schurle and Moyes will struggle to play in the flank. Oscar is the only competitor, but he could be drawn to deep pivoting role with Ginkel, Lampard, Essien or Ramires. What do you think about this 7.0 chelsea midfielder?

For all the people that are considering Migs without an active backup, using Reinas games from last year, Liverpool only kept one clean sheet vs a top 8 club (Everton), in the games where a CS was not had, he averaged less than 0.75 shot save points per game and vs the top 8 he had 0.55. Migs at Sunderland on the other hand, averaged 1.41 save points when a clean sheet was not had and 1.8 save points vs a top 8 club from last year.

Some will say that Migs is a better shot stopper, but the problem is that Pool are going to take less shots on target than Sunderland when playing top clubs. In a lot of these matches Pool even had the majority of possession, where as Sundland was on their heels.

That's what makes the mid/lower team goalies so nice, is that when you find one in form, they will usually have a lot more shots to stop in the trickery games that they are likely to concede in.

My conclusion? Migs is a great choice as the main keep and top notch potential for clean sheets, but spend the extra 0.5 on the second keep and find someone with kinder fixtures when pool plays the top clubs or someone that is going to stop more shots.

(Note: I used "The Score" for stats, so numbers may vary slightly 😉

Totally agree. I like Boruc to rotate with Migs; it's got to be worth the extra 0.5m to have a back-up 'keeper you can actually - and will actually - use.

Last season everytime I tried to be clever and rotate keepers according to fixtures i would get disappointed most of the time, so I'll just stick with one keeper to save the trouble and regrets.

I've had a thought. Picking any one Chelsea striker looks to be risky, but what about hedging our bets with two? Surely one of them will do enough (180 mins and/or garner attacking returns) to ensure they don't drop in price the following gameweek? GW2 you move on the one that did the least and after that gameweek decide whether to keep or sell the other too.

Currently thinking of going with Torres, Lukaku and Hazard - and sod the defence 🙂

They do, but there's only Cech and probably Cole I'd be comfortable risking. And then you've got to make defensive transfers after the double. Then there's the problem that if you only take one defender along with Hazard, which other attacking player do you risk to complete the three?

That's true - and while it's a wasted Chelsea slot, it's easy to ship him out GW2 safe in the knowledge that Lukaku will not go down in price (unless he has a stinker or is overshadowed by Torres in the game he does play).

Fair point if you mean you don't see value in either Torres or Ba. To be honest it's more to offset the risk of Lukaku not playing than because I particularly rate either of them. But I don't think I could risk Lukaku on his own.

u can. get hazard/cole/lukaku. please believe me two Chelsea strikers is not goos when u weigh up the gw1 options. get giroud or dzeko instead, initially try and cover the top 6/7 because who knows will jump into forn.

Yep good advice, was thinking of going with Giroud as my third striker. But having two Chelsea strikers leaves a few options. I could even downgrade the first and upgrade the second to RVP, there's that much money locked up in them. I'll have a think about this anyway.

having money in the bank is great if u are happy with your team, less hit potential early on, tho I'd advice less caution initially to catch the early risers. watch motd.

I worry about them all (barring Cech), mainly because Mourinho could be tempted to rotate with two games in a week against opposition that, without disrespect to the teams, Chelsea should sweep aside. Perhaps I'm just being too cagey after seeing some of the preseason line-ups.

Cant blame you as that uncertainty is always going to be around with a new manager. The upside with the Chelsea defence is really good to ignore.

If there's any rotation, it's going to be in the front 6 not leaving anyone.

Decided to drop my light defence as pick up Cech. (Atleast until i figure out José pref back 4, for the record i rate Luiz as a corner-stone this year but im not sure)
Cech is nailed on and now that Josés trademark solid defence is reinstated and the bridge looking to become a fortress once again. Cech looks to be THE best value of all keepers.

doubt dzeko will even be trustable by gwk2. you need to be thinking of nailed on strikers who scores first gw, lambert/berba/bony/jrod/hooper/carroll/, all 8m or below. this price range WILL procude a standout option. jump on it

              shaw over clyne(inj)

Great defence and midfield, but your forwards are weak. With a midfield like that you are going to run 3-5-2 every week, so don't have J Rod. Downgrade him to Gayle, then you can downgrade Coleman to Brayford (5th defender isn't that important, and Brayford is nailed on unlike Coleman), and with the extra 2m you can upgrade Weimann to Dzeko and then upgrade Harper to Boruc. Solid team though 🙂

Hey guys, what do you think of this team? It's the best/most balanced team I've come up with so far assuming Bale leaves.

    Mignolet--Harper

    Collins--Terry--Turner--Shaw--Parr

    Walcott--Mirallas--Snodgrass--Hazard--Thomas

    Lukaku--RVP--Dzeko

    - Lukaku out after GW1
    - Plan to have Dzeko for at least the first 3 GWs because of City's starting fixtures

Even if Bale stays will you want him? He will sulk through the first game and if his move goes to the wire you will be faced with having to replace him and 3 Chelsea players plus any Villa you have.

    That will force your wildcard.

Avoid for now, his head wont be right anyway.

Nobody but Mourinho can answer that I'm afraid. I'm taking a risk & going with him though.

Cole is the safe bet but with Luiz having not played in any friendlies yet, Ivan & Luiz will have internationals before the opening day and Cahill is a bit crap, I'd say Terry is a risk worth taking

Even if Luiz is injured? Cahill might be the safes bet with attacking potential.

Will be able to play 3 games in a week which edges him over Terry and has started pretty muxh every game in pre season, he is slipping under the radar a bit.

A few weeks down the line, perhaps this will be true (although we don't know if Mour has plans for Luiz in CM).

But right now Luiz has fitness concerns and a massive journey to play in Brazil friendly. So by the time he's ugly fit and settled in the team, we will most likely have already sold him & moved on

Luiz is playing his friendly in Europe>So,that might not create any issue.
If fit,Luiz is the first name Mou will put in XI.
For now,I'd suggest to go with Ivanovic. He can give a decent cover at CB & he's first choice at RB.
You can't get many Box-to-Defenders to choose for your team.Do you? 😆

The whole Chelsea defence is a lottery, might be worth blanking it and looking for 3 attacking players.

1 defender playing 1 game is bad.

1 attacker playing 1 game could still be good.

It breaks the template, although IMO that's not such a great thing in this case.

Big question marks over Kolarov for a start.....Clichy!!!

Vorm has tough start & N Taylor is not nailed on..... Ben Davies!!!

Amoribete is a card magnet apparently although I've never seen him play.

Finally I'd go Walcott over Cazorla. Walcott is cheaper and has proven season after season he is a points magnet no matter how poor he seems to the naked eye

    Migs-4.0
    Ivanovic**-Zabaleta-Collins-Shaw-Brayford
    Hazard**-Oscar**-Mirallas-Kim-XXX
    Giroud-Benteke**-XXX

    2 places up for grabs!

    1)Silva+Hooper+1.5m in Bank
    2)Silva+Dzeko+0.5m in Bank
    3)Coutinho+Dzeko+0.5 in Bank
    4)Silva+Bony
    5)Coutinho+Bony
    6)Michu+Dzeko+0.5 in Bank
    7)Walcott+Dzeko
    8)Snoddgrass+Negredo+1m in Bank

I m on 1) now coz It'll save me money to upgrade to RVP if needed.Ivanovic to 4.5 & Oscar to 7.0 will allow me upgrade Benteke to RVP.

      3) or 5) for me. Probably 3 as I really fancy the Dzeko punt while he is so in form and there are fitness doubts over Aguero.

It is pretty obviously a short term punt to take advantage of fixtures & circumstance, then Dzeko>Bony when he's served his purpose

I'm a Migs/4.5 man. Let's face it, there's definitely going to be a whole lot of activity in the first couple of weeks which will see most of us ditching one of our expensive darlings in favour of some hitherto unheralded cheapo. That means you'll probably have some funds sitting earning 0% interest while you've got a non playing goalkeeper wasting space (and a transfer) on your bench.

I've looked at pairing Migs with a playing keeper, but I'm happy with Migs until GW10 when he's away at Arsenal.

10GWs is an awful long time in this game. So if I can have someone who I'm happy to play every week for 10 weeks, then surely it's worth spending the 0.5 elsewhere?

Ill probably have used my WC by then anyway

A differential team is only useful when you don't have rotation risk players and players that play too deep for their position.

For this reason I don't think Jovetic, Oscar & Schurrie are good picks.

I like Jelavic as an option but he is probably too risky for GW1 unless its clear he will start

    So heres after some tinkering:

    Mignolet (davis)
    Cole , Collins , Clyne , Chester, B Tuner
    Hazard, Walcott, Mirallas, Sterling, Koren
    Lukaku Dzeko RVP

0.5 in the bank, might double up liverpool defence and swap toure in for collins or clyne.
    Punt on sterling?

    Liverpool questions:

    1. gerrard or coutinho and why? statistics favor gerrard plus he said he is feeling better than ever but coutinho's pre season form hard to ignore

    2. how many clean sheets do u think liverpool will keep in the first 5 weeks ? (stoke home, villa away, man utd home, swansea away, southampton home)

    thanks

Which stats favour gerrard? Id say Cout as he is playing further up front

      2. Id say 2 CS is realistic for LIV, 3 possible

The only statisics that favour Gerrard and his BPS/game average but that's it.

I want to love silva but he's not a huge goal scorer historically and there are only 4 spots for him, aguero, negredo, navas, jovetic and dzeko. Plus nasri/Milner I suppose. It's scary stuff and nobody knows who pellegrini will favor. That said, if bale goes, he's in for me...

Oscar captain could be a stroke of pure genius or a massive failure.....so good luck with that. I'm going with boring old Hazard.

I like the team although a bit Norwich heavy in attack? RVW>JRod?

Having 4 DGWers seems a bit punty and more like a hassle come GW 3.. Going for just 3..
    Hazard Oscar Benteke 😎
Biggest potential imo and all should see a lot of minutes .. Benteke is a goal machine

I'm not convinced by the idea of getting players that will only start one game then have time off the bench. Its not worth it if you'll have to take a hit to get rid of them before GW3.

Having cech in my team and going Che:Villa 3:1 stands to make a team pooh. Transfer of a goalkeeper is a dull move to make. Not gonna get cech even if nailed on... I'd rather risk Cole, Cahill/Ivan/luiz/Terry, Lukaku. + Ben10.

I am a blues fan and got a gut feeling that Cahill may even get miore gametime than people think. He is a good stopper and Mourino might find him suitable for Catenaccio style...But do I say??? Fantasy football opening games= Unwanted surprises.

      I m adding a box-to-box defender there! 😆
      #Serbian Bear.
Okay let me explain.Lets keep Goalkeeper aside. You have 13 players to play in 10 positions in GW3 .Right? If you go with 4 in DGW,You'll have 9 players playing without a transfer & with 2FT till then you'll have 11 players for 10 position in GW3.You have got whole playing XI with a playing sub.Aint that enough?

But don't forget...You don't have any flexibility for punt here.Every Non DGW player u choose should be a a certain Starter. The main reason I m staying away from Dzekos,Anelkas & Jovetics.

      Cheers!!!

Can see where you're coming from. Nice trio of DGWers. Big potential there.

I just can't stomach the Villa fixtures though at all. Benteke could score against either team, but my gut says they're gunna get trounced twice and be lucky to score a goal.

Can see big points in Chelsea DF too which you are missing out on. Cole could get 12pts alone which I fear Benteke will struggle to reach

I hate making changes to my defense after the season starts and generally like keeping it the way it is for as long as possible. got loads of cash in the bank so oscar to silva and shaw to luiz is an option closer to deadline day i suppose

    Update on the Rooney saga

"Chelsea on Sunday night had a second bid for Wayne Rooney rejected by Manchester United. The fee, believed to be in the region of £25 million, was instantly dismissed by United manager David Moyes, who has continually stressed the England forward will stay with the Premier League champions. Telegraph Sport understands the situation is set to come to a head this week with Rooney, who is angry at United’s stance, ready to hand in a transfer request and force a move away from Old Trafford."

    Source: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/chelsea/10222254/Wayne-Rooney-subject-of-another-Chelsea-bid-but-Manchester-United-turn-it-down.html

Confused as to what he's trying to do. Either like last time he wants United to act upon pressure or he wants them to sell him through frustration.

This is going down to the wire either way. Safe to forget about Rooney for DGW1.

Yep. Rooney should pump in goals if given a forward slot at Chelsea out of frustration. IMHO Chelsea will be much better with him in the team.
