KPI Analysis – Lambert and Rodriguez

Over the last few weeks, a combination of factors have elevated Southampton’s Jay Rodriguez into many pre-season Fantasy squads. The Saints’ kind opening run of fixtures has caught the eye, while Rodriguez’s more budget-friendly appeal over Rickie Lambert has also played a part in how we assess his potential across the Fantasy games. Having scored three times in the opening couple of summer friendlies, Rodriguez has been quick to hit form and as interest in the former Burnley man gathers, we use the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to analyse the impact of Mauricio Pochettino on both Rodriguez and Lambert over the previous season.

As mentioned previously, the KPI helps us track certain key statistics which are indicative of a player’s form over a certain Gameweek range or season. Having ran the rule over Robin Van Persie’s impact at United compared to his final year with Arsenal, we delve into last season’s data to look at the Saints duo’s performances from Gameweek 1-22 under Nigel Adkins compared to Gameweek 23-38, when Pochettino was installed as the new man in charge at St Mary’s. By also utilising the Comparison Tool across the two periods, there’s plenty for Fantasy managers to mull over.

        Benteke, he's one more transfer than I want tied up due to the DGW and for all his ability the fixtures really are bad.
        
        There's a stat about him only scoring once (I think) in ten games against the top 5 last season. He even got sent off in that game and ended up with 2 points.

  I've been a 'fan' of Florentino's for many years now. I will never forget the Figo saga. Even when the Spanish banking system had collapsed he was able to muster up the cash for Cristiano, he will find the money for Gareth, no worries.

    Yeah that was my thinking as well to be honest. I seen your post about Dzeko and agreed with most of the points raised, which makes him a good punt for first three at least I reckon.
    
    No doubt going to be an absolute gamble on either of the four forwards but get it right and you could be rewarded with those fixtures.

    Don't think you show get Sturridge until the match in Dublin. Sturridge may not start it, and if not, will be unlikely to start the season. If he plays, he may not play well as he will be a little rusty. Your choice, but keep an eye out.

Mark my words. Bale stays in Tottenham because Madrid are not stupid to pay 100m for him. Its not about having the money or not. Surely they do. When they paid the big cash for Zidane,Figo Ronaldo, each was the best player in the world at that time (more or less). Bale wouldn't do a much better job that Di Maria to be honest.Also Bale is not a superstar yet. He will not sell T-shirts like Zidane,Fifo,Ronaldo,Kaka

So Bale stays, Suarez goes to Madrid, Rooney goes to Arsenal and Chelsea goes for Etoo instead now that Anzhi are going to overhaul

Oscar looks appealing over a Chelsea defender, at least in my head. CS are statistically more limited in the early GW's, e.g. Chelsea vs Reading early last year and the opposite is true, more goals are scored. Predicting when defenders will score attacking points, is as Baines teaches us every year, like peeing into the wind.

Oscar will get one game at least, and is likely as anyone to play the 2nd due to his versatility. Finished last season strongly with a run of goals.

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

  Well i would tend to agree with you normally, that you should always go for the more attacking choice as a rule. But in this case it's Chelsea and they have some of the most dangerous defenders (in terms of goal threat from set pieces) in the entire league. Cahill, Terry and Ivanovic are all very capable of scoring in those first couple of games imo

    They certainly have defenders that get goals, just as I say, predicting when they will score one I feel is a complete lottery.

    Agree. Another thing I realised (and I know it's very dangerous to go without Hazard) but with Luiz seemingly out of the equation, they only have 3 centre backs. What if we took them all? Ivanovic could play alongside Terry & Cahill and if he doesn't well at least we're covered. Is the triple up worth the risk though?

      Not with what Chelsea can do down the other end. I would not bank on more then one CS, and goals from defenders are impossible to predict!

        Yeah. The main appeal with Chelsea is attacking threat, trying to think outside the box though. Prompted mostly by fears of rotation!

  I have him in at the moment, but I don't really know what I'm doing yet. Or, arguably, ever. He gets 120mins, he could do well. But who knows who'll get the mins in the Chelsea mid. I don't. Shame that.
