Season Predictions 2013/14 – The View From The Scouts

We wanted to post this before deadline this morning but, due to our technical issues, we were unable to take that opportunity. Rather than waste the chance to embarrass ourselves, however, we thought we’d stick these up this evening, regardless.

Last season many of us were left red-faced thanks to our terrible predictions for the 2012/13 season.

I was left particularly embarrassed with my now laughable assertion that Charles N’Zogbia would be last season’s best differential. Meanwhile Granville’s predictions that Sam Alladyce would be the first boss to bite the bullet and Shinji Kagawa would be the season’s top assister also failed to materialise.

Credit though went to Anorak for correctly predicting that Michu would be the year’s star budget midfielder. Hard to believe the attacking midfielder was initially priced at just 6.5m at the start of last season. Mark’s prediction that Rickie Lambert would shine in the budget forward category also proved correct.

But enough of last year, here’s our thoughts on the season ahead for you to bookmark and use to embarrass/congratulate us as the season progresses.

Moderator Evs knows all about Top 5s, he was a top 5 player at the end the FPL 2012/13 season and was even in with a shout of winning the competition on the final day. Will his experience reap dividends when it comes to predicting the 2013/14 season?

I'm surprised Rat didn't start. He's being talked up as an attacking FB.

Olsson isn't nailed-on yet but if you see that he is nailed-on get him. Will be a very good attacking CB option. Might be sooner than later cos Norwich defence din't look too sharp at home yesterday and their left side mid and defender let Shamey have the run of the pitch too often.

I thought he was shocking for the first penalty. Took a split second to pat himself on the back after the save resulting in poor reactions to get up in time to clear the rebound. Compare his reactions to Mignolet double-save. His antics outside the box didn't look good either but he wasn't helped by schoolgirl defenders around him.

Late to this article, but astonished at how many scouts picked Vorm as best scoring keeper - based I imagine on the idea of a strong Swansea defense ...wonder how many still feel the love for him today?

yeah, I realise it's early days too - but logic says the team with the most clean sheets would produce the keeper with the most points? With so many people backing the Pool defense, that ought to be Migs ...I guess the new bonus system might have a say in it?

The annoying thing about tinkering is that at one point many of the high scoring players touched my squad at one point or another. Mignolet, Coleman, I even had Barklay in when I saw Gibson was injured, only to take him out again when Martinez said Gibbo was 50-50

Couldawouldshoulda. Anyways, if Soldado hits the ground running and Chelsea spank Hull, most of us hanging around the 1.5 million mark will be back in the game.

I wonder if Mark would agree to pick my lottery numbers this week? What intuition! The man is blessed ;-D

I got him too, but I'm leaving it a few weeks before I take him out. He's capable of scoring, if WHam are a goal down or drawing against Newcastle at 60/70 mins next week there every chance he'll make an appearance. If he scores, he'll surly start the following game.

Lots of 'ifs', too early to call.

Sczcesny is a terrible keeper. Funny watching him on the highlights looking like a complete fool. Sagna continuing to look like he is in a deep sleep and Gibbs should just admit that he will never stop getting injured.

Surprised how sloppy the passing was from Arsenal yesterday. Looks like they miss Arteta in there already. And Theo had the ball once in the highlights last night. Was he that quiet?

"Gibbs should just admit that he will never stop getting injured."

Getting his head split open is not really a regular injury.

"Sagna continuing to look like he is in a deep sleep"

That did look a sore one. I was referring to Sagna's lackadaisical defending before he got injured though.

Not a regular injury for Gibbs but he seems to be the victim of many injuries on a regular basis. The new Kieron Dyer.

A word of warning for the Coleman bandwagoners:

Do you really think he will continue to score well? He has a good fixture next week, but after that?

He had 2 shots (one in the box, one of target) and created 2 chances against Norwich. He will have to seriously increase his output to offer the kind of attacking form that justifies owning him, as Everton just won't be strong enough defensively IMO

Other option is too ditch Hazard (Silva) and Lukaku for cheap mid (Brady etc) and RVP. Any thoughts?
