Season Predictions 2013/14 – The View From The Scouts

We wanted to post this before deadline this morning but, due to our technical issues, we were unable to take that opportunity. Rather than waste the chance to embarrass ourselves, however, we thought we’d stick these up this evening, regardless.

Last season many of us were left red-faced thanks to our terrible predictions for the 2012/13 season.

I was left particularly embarrassed with my now laughable assertion that Charles N’Zogbia would be last season’s best differential. Meanwhile Granville’s predictions that Sam Alladyce would be the first boss to bite the bullet and Shinji Kagawa would be the season’s top assister also failed to materialise.

Credit though went to Anorak for correctly predicting that Michu would be the year’s star budget midfielder. Hard to believe the attacking midfielder was initially priced at just 6.5m at the start of last season. Mark’s prediction that Rickie Lambert would shine in the budget forward category also proved correct.

But enough of last year, here’s our thoughts on the season ahead for you to bookmark and use to embarrass/congratulate us as the season progresses.

Moderator Evs knows all about Top 5s, he was a top 5 player at the end the FPL 2012/13 season and was even in with a shout of winning the competition on the final day. Will his experience reap dividends when it comes to predicting the 2013/14 season?

    i doubted a page or 2 back whether lukaku's stats were comparable to rvp's and, i stand corrected;
    so they're about the same but lukaku in really good team now. suppose it depends on gametime

    last season;
    goals / mins / goals/min.
    rvp 26/3123 0.0083
    lukaku 17/2005 0.0084

      Lukaku was subbed a lot wasn't he? Easier to have good stats as an impact sub. I'd rather focus on Benteke. He has 16 goals in 2013 vs RVP's 14 goals....and he's guaranteed 90 minutes x 38 weeks.

        was only comparing lukaku vs rvp tho, and lukaku does seem like a better option than i realised. all depends on playing time tho of course.

    When do the prices rise and fall? Does that start tonight or after the gameweek? I have Mertesacker and I am afraid he will drop like lead balloon. I don't like to be knee-jerk, but after today's performance, I am not sure Arsenal's defense will be worth owning for awhile.

      I'm still unclear on how this works. If I transfer Koscielny out now, do I definitely avoid any financial penalty? Whereas if I transfer him out tomorrow I may take a £0.1m loss, and later in the week as much as £0.3m?

      Or does everyone who sells him prior to GW2 take some kind of hit presuming he is transferred out enough times to meet the threshold for a price drop?

      Can anyone clarify?

        Once he's out of your team he is sold and your money is safe, regardless of how far he goes down the rest of the week. You just have to ensure you sell before the price changes the night he's going down (if he does). But again, once you sell, the money is invested in another player (whoever you transfer in for him) and then dependent upon THAT player.

          Nope, not coz of that. I just think that with the 5mil I save on him, I can upgrade two other options that would pretty much be 2pointers to player that would collectively get better points than only having him.
          I try to play fpl with my head, not my heart, so its not being spiteful or something.

            Bman, I think that's Matt's point; pick the best 15 to score points for you, regardless of who you support. As a massive gooner, I can confirm that RVP was the 1st name in my squad.....proven goalscorer/points machine when fit and obvious captain choice throughout season........and just wish he was still banging those goals in for us.......

            Question : Would RVP have beaten TH14 (Thierry Henry's) Arsenal goalscoring record if he stayed?

            TH14 175 goals

            RVP currently 124 goals : Arsenal - 96 goals; Man Ure - 28 goals

            I think he had a chance if he stayed and stayed fit....thoughts?

          26 with Routledge off the bench for Snoddy, Cech, Hazard (c), Ivan, and Dzeko to go. Not the best but still good. Why doesn't Sturridge have a single BP when he scored the only goal of the game.... he didn't "create the most chances" but he won the game with Migs seems odd.
