Monitor – Philippe Coutinho

Heading into the home game against Stoke, Philippe Coutinho was one of the most popular picks around. Second only to Eden Hazard in terms of midfield ownership in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), the Liverpool winger was heavily backed to run riot against the Potters after a thrilling first few months on Merseyside last time round.

Unfortunately for his Fantasy owners, Coutinho returned a blank while Iago Aspas and Daniel Sturridge picked up the points after combining for the Reds’ match-winner. As we edge ever-closer to the weekend’s fixtures, we take a look back at the Brazilian’s display against Mark Hughes’ side and assess the underlying data in our first Monitor article of the new season.

Planning on doing...
Hazard & Lukaku -> Mirallas & Sturridge this week and
R.Morrison -> Brady next week, leaves me with 0.5 leftover.
An 8 point hit is unavoidable unless I downgrade Lukaku this week, but I don't really fancy Dzeko.
I already have Coutinho so maybe I should go for Soldado, but RMT is telling me Sturridge will score significantly better than him.
Thoughts?

I don't understand why Benteke lost points for missing the initial penalty before netting the rebound in the Arsenal game. It was quite clearly a double deflection off the goalie and his boot 😛

Club loyalties and banter aside, does anyone think Arsenal will qualify for the Champions league next year. With Spurs completing a 5 year deal for Willian in addition to the rest of their signings they look much stronger. Liverpool too will give them a run for their money.
If they don't complete any transfers this window, how low can they go?

  Liverpool don't have a hope in hell until they get a new owner or manager. Willian wanted the Liverpool move but they refused to raise their bid by 7 mill. To be fair though, newly minted Spurs would have just kept outbidding them. Their squad is weak. An di like them out of all the big teams, but they really need a new centre back, winger and midfielder.
  
  Arsenal can't not sign anyone as it would just be too ridiculous. But if Spurs sign Lamela too as looks likely (or the other Roma lad), then they're a show in for the top 4.

  I think this is the season everything catches up with Arsenal. As much as anyone, Wenger changed English football with his passing game. But now everyone is doing it, and everyone has from Newcastle to Swansea is signing up relatively unknown foreign players to play that passing game. Wenger redefined the game, but now people are catching up - and overtaking him.

  Don't think Dawson is a good option. i may be wrong but I think AVB will prefer Kaboul. Kaboul is one of the fastest CB's around and suits the high-line defense that he uses.
