The Community Round Up

Tottenham’s new recruits and the start of the Champions League group stages were among the hottest topics being discussed by the community over the international break. We also find out how FFS UEFA’s transfer window simulation game concluded and welcome aboard a new moderator to the Fantasy Football Scout team.

Hottest Topics

Tottenham have so many new arrivals following the close of the transfer window that it is hard to keep up with their likely starting XI. Luckily our resident video expert Brutus619 had his finger on the pause button to analyse attacking midfielder Erik Lamela’s displays and assess whether he is the real deal as a Fantasy prospect.

Robin Van Persie continues to divide the community, with one group of players set for glory, while the other bracing themselves for  disappointment. BigFatFrank has decided to give those wildcarders looking to shoehorn the Dutch striker into their team a step by step guide to creating the perfect RVP team. Meanwhile, 7 Shades of Smoke has ben debunking the popular “keep calm and captain RVP” mantra and wondering if it is nothing but a myth.

Elsewhere,Iain_90 ponders whether there’s any weight to the theory of “attacking coverage” across the most offensive teams or if it’s best just targeting certain individuals.

Bonus points and their sudden shine to defenders continues to dominate discussion. King Nemanja is so convinced that the recent glut of bonus points for defenders is no mere fluke that he is prepared to commit himself to a four at the back formation to ensure his team cashes in. For those wanting to follow his lead he’s come up with some great defensive line ups here.

The Champions League is almost here and in our discussion on the best options out there HeyDudes13 has some great budget options to consider  and Konig Luther’s lengthy list in this thread is also well worth looking at.

Worryingly for the community, international injuries have been mounting up this last week, with Liverpool right back Glen Johnson among those possibly destined for a lengthy stay in the physio room. Archie has been running the rule over the candidates who are likely to replace Johnson while he recovers.

Finally, Maxi’s top ten tips for mini-league success provided some useful, albeit sneaky and underhand, advice for winning a mini-league.

Community Leagues

FFS UEFA’s Transfer Window Simulation (TWS) game came to a finale during the international break with Norwich led by The Shadow being crowned TWS Champions. The rest of the top 5 was rounded off by PeppieandFelix‘s Fulham, Liverpool owned by 4vets, Arsenal guided by Zep and HVT‘s Aston Villa. FFS UEFA also tell us that places are still up for grabs in their FA Cup style game. If you are interested sign up here  by the deadline of 11:59pm BST, September 22. Those already involved in the FFS UEFA leagues and those who applied unsuccessfully to be a part of that competition have all been given an automatic space so do not need to apply.

scary coincidence, just reading this http://cardiffkickaball.wordpress.com/2013/09/11/whittingham-and-kim-cardiffs-creative-hub/

one thing not mentioned which could be an issue is odemwingie. i believe odem is there as an attacking winger (they have campbell and cornelius) so maybe a slim chance one of kim and whittingham make way if odem and bellamy both start.

How likely is Chelsea to get any thing at Everton? I have Hazard who might not even play despite the medics giving him the okay.So now I'm considering Oscar who was injured but seems to be ok. Coutinho who has done little to nothing and Lamela who I have only seen on a pre season tour. These 9m plus defenders need to warrant their price tag soon or I'm going to look elsewhere.

      0-0 or 1-0 Chelsea IMO.

Be a drab match, everton will play defensive and mourinho is always defensivley minded.

+ chelseas attack is so random, anyone could play.

      9m Defenders? say whaaaaaaat lol

I've taking the wary approach to Haz., Achilles are a bitch.
Also with Will in it's a guessing game and I need time to figure M's mindset.

I thought Terry was ahead of Cahill, not so sure now.

I think I agree with how Baat face has been used I'd prefer him over Haz even if both are fit.

Some of you are saying things like "people are going to regret these cheap midfields"

Others are saying, "the bonus points don't benefit assist compilers."

And I agree in theory, but that would lead to the obvious question; what midfielders are going to score goals and thus acquire bonus points regardless of the cost?

    - Mirallas - proved he can't get it done
    - Wally - is he healthy?
    - Silva - is he healthy?
    - Michu - could his fixtures be any worse?
    - Santi - will he be on the wing now?
    - Hernandez - could his fixtures be any worse?
    - Oscar - is he healthy? is he nailed?
    - Hazard - is he healthy? is he nailed?
    - Mata - is he healthy? is he nailed?
    - Ben Arfa - are we really selecting Newcastle players?
    - Coutinho - is he worth not having Studge or another Liverpool defender?

Doesn't this basically leave us with taking wild flails at Lamela, Ozil and Erikson along with the dependable SuperFrank and going with value at the fifth spot with Brady, JWP, or Barkley?

    I can make this team...

    G: Migs (Daniels)
D: Zab, Sakho, Chiriches, (Collins) (Baker)
M: Silva, Lampard, Eriksen, Ozil, (Barkley)
    F: Welbeck, Giroud, Benteke
    (.3 remaining)

-Welbeck to Lukaku next week, and then I'll have .5 to upgrade the defense even more.

I guess my point is that its going to be tough to carry the premium "dependable" mids if they're not looking dependable, so why not go for new guys like Eriksen and Ozil in our midfields?

    Thoughts?

My thoughts are that you are brave to be sticking your neck out for Chiriches. Seems a good player, but whether he'll overtake Dawson is to be seen.

Chiriches is the biggest punt ive seen on here today lol eclipsing Eriksen, Lamela and even Nani.

Stick with your gut my friend.

If I can upgrade him to someone better I would, but getting Tot's potential for clean sheets in there is a must. My goal on the defensive end is to have some Liverpool, some Tottenham, and some offensive firepower.

If I can do that in a more efficient package I would, but this is the best I've come up with.

I will go with Özil, Walcott and Giroud for next 2GW, then downgrade one of Özil-Walcott and use that money to get Suarez in, no rotation risk in Arsenals mid now because of injuries while we don´t know anything really about Chelsea mid at the moment.

Playing 4-3-3 (until Christmas at least) as the new BAP system seems to favour defenders.

Fielding 5 decent defenders and currently have Mertesacker, Ferdinand, Terry, Coleman & Dawson.

Have 1.4m in the bank and I'm on WC, would you switch in any defenders instead of the 5 I've got?

    C) Fonte
    D) Yanga M'Biwa

The Studge goal was great. I enjoyed it 🙂

Imho, Man U just don't look up for it this season. I don't want a great discussion about this but this is the reason I haven't got RVP, undoubtedly the best striker in the prem at the mo.

Man U create nothing, may be able to defend well (getting Vidic) but other than that? I need more evidence.

Right, lots of tinkering in the last hour.

    TEAM FOR GW4:

    Szczesny

    Coleman - Shaw - Riether

    Walcott - Michu - Lamela - Brady

    Benteke(C) - Giroud - Sturridge

    Subs: Boruc, Redmond, Williams, Debuchy

    0.5m in the bank

    THE PLAN:

Boruc and Sczezny rotate quite nicely. As do Brady and Redmond.

Coleman will be a constant in defence. 4-way rotation between Shaw (Sou), Riether (Ful), Williams (Swa) and Debuchy (New) for the other 2 spots looks like this:

    GW4: WHU & WBA
    GW5: HUL & SUN
    GW6: CAR & PAL
    GW7: STO & SWA/cpl
    GW8: cpl & sto
    GW9: FUL & WHU
    GW10: sto & car
    GW11: HUL & STO
    GW12: SWA & NOR
GW13: Falls to pieces from here but plenty of time to make changes.

I think those 15 players are pretty much as nailed-on as I can get. Having a cheap defence means I can use my transfers on transferring in/out midfielders/attackers who are hitting form/out of form.

If I get an injury suspension then the prices of defenders in the same sides are fairly similar. Clyne for Shaw, Santon for Debuchy, Hangeland for Riether, Davies for Williams etc (incidentally, should I go for Davies? It was only the extra 0.1m saving that made me choose Williams)

If you've read through all that without falling into a coma, then I'd love to hear your thoughts.

    🙂
