FFS UEFA Beach Soccer Tournament 2013

Gameweek 8 sees the launch of the latest team competition for the Fantasy Football Scout community organised by FFS UEFA. Following the success of last season’s ICC-themed cricket tournament, the group have created FFS Beach Soccer World Cup 2013, with 16 teams, each comprised of 11 players, competing for the crown.

If you’re new to the concept and are wondering just what all the chatter has been about, here’s a link to their site which will help explain matters in a little more detail.

Essentially, the scoring is based around the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game.

Each team started scouting for players (ie, FPL managers) on Sunday, October 6 and the recruitment period will come to a close on Wednesday, October 16, with the roster of team players announced on Thursday, October 17.

The teams are led by a captain and vice-captain and guided by a manager, who decide which seven of their 11 players to field each week – depending on the perceived prospects of their FPL line-ups -and which four to bench. Their overall FPL scores for the Gameweek, with hits taken into account, will form the team’s score that week – by outscoring their opponents, they chalk up a win.

The first match in Gameweek 8 will be no more than a friendly before the main event gets underway the following weekend. This sees the 16 teams compete in four groups of four between Gameweek 9 and 11 – the top two teams from each group will progress to the knockout stages, where sides square up in a head-to-head elimination process from Gameweek 12 until the final in Gameweek 15. The UAE is pleased to announce our newest squad member comes from the FFS ranks without a grav. RequiemOf Dream, FPL id 1028584, becomes the first entrant into the FFS Beach Soccer World Cup without a grav. For the purposes of the tournament he has changed his display name to The Gravless Sheikh Of Dreams.

We at the UAE believe that while many managers and entrants in the Beach Cup are in it for mutual apple-polishing, that the competition should be truly open and available to all members of the FFS community without snobbery or discrimination against lesser known names and those without gravs.

Surely those managers willing to scout from the entirety of the FFS community and look beyond last year's pals will find many worthy candidates. We hope other managers will follow the class of such nations in the cup as the Solomon Islands and Brazil who have been open to lesser known members; and, that other managers aside from ourselves can even be open to those brave souls who comment on FFS without a grav.

Perhaps we in the UAE are the only nation rich enough in the tournament to look beyond grav images for true talents to those without a grav, but we believe there is a brighter, more inclusive, future for all FFS citizens ahead.

We must now go speak with our servants to spread this good news around the world. We thank you for your attention.

Due to the captaincy scores hot topic, I have just discovered that my total captaincy score of 114 points, mainly due to Sturridge and Benteke, make up more than a third of my total score of 330.

This seems ridiculously high, considering the captain can be considered as 2 of your 12 man team, ie 1/6th of it.

Obviously this is because while my captain has usually been scoring points (only 2 fails out of 7) the rest of my team just haven't, anyone else got a stranger ratio than me?

Has anyone got the reverse, ie a ratio less than expected, so ~10% or so, by getting captain fails with the rest of the team doing well?

  I think 25% is a reasonable yard stick, as your captains 'should' be better than an average player, about 1.5 average player if you choose reasonably well.

    Yeah, I suppose you are trying to captain the highest scoring player, so it should be higher than the 1/6th of the team it makes up, ie ~17%
    
    20-25 is probably average, but I guess a lot depends on luck.
    
    This percentage doesn't necessarily have anything to do with your overall rank though, as a score of 25% could equate to a captain average of 8 points, and and a low score in the 30s, or a captain average of 15 points and a great GW average in the 60s

    I decided to gamble and go without him, and i'm glad I did, but if he'd been in my team I would probably have captained him a fair few times and so be doing even less well.
    
    But on the other hand, with him in the team I might have more cheap midfielders who all seem to be doing well

I suggest people take a look at this, involves fifas report on Quatar. Guys have a problem growing grass, most facilities dont exist yet- more than was the case for other countries.

  I live in Qatar and even though there are problems with Qatar, it's nothing like what the media is portraying. We have a regular league with decent stadiums and football is played regularly here. Even though grass growing is a problem, we have enough technology to grow artificial grass and we have some wonderful stadiums with artificial grass. As for facilities, again Qatar is not too far behind and there is nothing that can't be fixed until 2022. The only big problem in Qatar is the weather and that's all. Otherwise it's perfectly capable of hosting the WC by 2022, especially by the way they are showing progress.

      I agree that the weather isn't very suitable for hosting the WC. But they are planning to moderate temperatures in all of the stadiums at a lower temperature and they have the money and technology to do this.

    Awesome to hear from someone living there.
    
    The main problem I have is the corruption and bribery that lead to that decision and the fact that it is a public secret and nobody is going to jail for it. Nothing against the country itself.
    
    The worry is that WC cant be played on artificial grass so those great options are pretty much useless, only good for training facilities and even that could probably not satisfy the nations who would like to practice in similar conditions as they will play.
    
    The grass growing and cooling systems seem to be in testing face to this time and no backup options have even been thought of.
    
    I think due to the cash available the facilities wont be a problem, but it will be tought to fight nature with products in a testing fase.

      The grass part is not a big problem and many big clubs come to Qatar for training and even playing friendly matches. Manchester United, Bayern, Barca, PSG have all come to the Aspire for its facilities. As for playing conditions, we have big friendlies here very often. Spain v Uruguay was one of them this year and it was a success. The only real problem is the cooling system and they are working on it. If that fails, then I would agree that WC shouldn't be hosted in Qatar. If it does, I don't see any problem with having a WC here.

        Lets see how it goes, if they get it right than why not. But I really think a winter WC is a bad idea. And I think Fifa should have a backup plan if this goes tits up. If they will press this without any regard for clubs and nations I think there could be a big problem. Hopefully you guys get things sorted out in there and make people forget the issues.

here's a question for you all:

the guy with the highest value team is ranked at 303,000 with a total of 374 points and a combined team value of 109.4m

im ranked at 143,00 with a total of 390 points and a combined team value of 104.5m

whose position would you rather be in? its only a difference of 16 points , and you could do with a lot with the extra cash,which over the season i think could end up scoring you far more than the 16 points. just thought it was an interesting one...

    thats o good point. but i think with the likes of rvp, baines and ozil in your team, all of whom will score highly over the season you could do pretty well. i for example would just upgrade coleman to baines if i had an extra 2millish. and i think that would score me more than my 16 points back

      True, but extra team value can often lead you to pick the more expensive player purely because they are more expensive, rather than because they are a better option. Sometimes cheap players are underestimated just because their price tag makes them seem inferior.

        I know exactly what you mean. Also people feel they must bench a 5mil player even if he is a better prospect that week than a 7.5 mil alternative. I like to work out my estimated value based on points per minute. In my mind for example, Barkley has been scoring at the rate of a typical 8mil midfielder, not that I expect him to maintain it

    but the cash atsuch an early stage of the season could see you soar up the ranks in no time. are there no players you would upgrade if you had the extra money:? the highest scoring players of one week will not be the highest scoring players of the next week( generaly speaking) so a lot of it comes down to a players consistency of returns, which is something you pay for.

    At the end of the season, sure I'd take points over value. But early in the season, rank means nothing, I'd much rather have value.

  TV is the most misunderstood part of the FPL game...it means nothing. The only thing that matters is the quality of the squad. Right now there are three proven FPL players awaiting buying on the injury list...Johnson/Walcott/Benteke....purchasing any or all of those three will see you TV plummett whilst increasing the quality of your squad, and that sort of situation continues right through the season. By playing the market well it is easy to have a very, very strong squad by Christmas with just an average TV....Build your TV and then buy well.

      It will take a hit when Giroud turns into Benteke but as Wakey said it's selling value that counts.

        Yeah it's pretty high, I like to play the 'player stock market' until January and then wildcard lots of good players and fly up the rankings the second half of the season. I never make the top 10k though so this concept could be flawed.

  I'm a big fan of team value and its come in really handy for the run in for the last two seasons (last year for example having Bale and RVP and loads of other expensive players without breaking sweat).
  
  But in answer to your question it would depend on your teams. He could have 5m more in value but his team could be terrible. I'd go with the best team.

    i suppose thats true but you have a wildcars and by raising your tv to such a high level your going to have made a lot of transfers, so you could compomise and gain tv whilst bringing in players for a good team. i think thats sort of a natural evoulution anyhow. i think?

  The people listed on the front page for team value dozens of points hits every week.
  
  I don't think it's a good starting point for determining the importance of TV. Besides it will only really make a different mid to late season.
