The Community Round Up

Christmas came early this year, as the community tampered with a rather smart online toy offering analysis of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points won and lost. We examine this, along with an array of the week’s other hot topics and glance at the latest developments in our community leagues, whilst revealing if anyone was close to guessing Mark’s predictably doomed Gameweek 13 transfers.

The Hottest Topics

It may sound like the Transformers’ latest recruit but Gargamel’s “Gargatron” is in fact a nifty FPL analysis tool which has sent the Fantasy Football Scout community into a frenzy. It’s easy to operate but works best using Google Chrome and provides a handy summary of just how good or bad your captaincy and bench decisions have been to this point – it can, however, make grizzly reading.

As competition for our three striking berths intensifies, D1sable took over the Fantasy Football Scout Daily Hot Topic on Wednesday to ask whether an ailing Christian Benteke is enduring second season syndrome or just needs more assistance from his team-mates to shine. There was mixed reaction from the thread – Ansinthe Minded was amongst those optimistic that the Belgian will return to his 2012/13 form, while King Nil Miss felt that a lack of sharpness was in evidence following Benteke’s recent groin injury.

Among the best anaylsis of Benteke’s form came from Agbonloahorse. His research shows just how relient Benteke is on Gabby Agbonlahor and Andreas Weimann. Of the 28 games in which all three have started, Benteke has racked up 27 goals. In the 25 games in which one of them has failed to start, he has scored just seven goals. Eye-opening stuff.

Mr Smith has been taking a look at two other options, Wayne Rooney and Romelu Lukaku. His excellent post shows that the far cheaper Everton man is keeping pace with the United striker and, in the eight matches to Gameweek 12, had in fact notched more goals.

Just how much of a premium are Fantasy managers willing to pay for a few extra bonus points? This was the key issue covered in Dogba’s discussion on the merits of Everton’s two centre backs, Phil Jagielka and Sylvan Distin. With the pair fairly even in terms of starts and underlying attacking stats it appears that the key difference is Jagielka’s ability to hoover up bonus points on a more regular basis. But, Dogba asks, is that really worth the 0.7m premium Jagielka suitors face over his defensive partner?

Portsmouth Bubblejet has been looking ahead to the festive fixtures and concludes that Gameweeks 13 to 20 present plenty of opportunity to explore rotating options. If you fancy some cheap or mid-priced defensive and midfield candidates to rotate over Christmas, his analysis will prove invaluable.

Meanwhile, since Granville failed to correctly guess Mark’s three transfers during this week’s Scoutcast, we thought we’d give the community a chance to try their luck. Sarjeant was closest with his guess that Sturridge, Rooney and Nasri would make way for Aguero, Suarez and Ravel Morrison. If he had suggested Fulham midfielder Pajtim Kasami instead of the West Ham makeweight, he would have been spot on. Typically, all three of Mark’s signings earned just a couple of points each – while the ousted Wayne Rooney helped himself to a brace at the Lane. Painful.

Community Leagues

The leaders in In Tommy We Trust’s All Things leagues are La Roja, Chilin_Dude, Athletico Timbo, Crouch Potato, Chazza and Koneheads who, going into Gameweek 13, was ranked 532 in the world.

The last 32 in his cup also took  place this weekend. We’ll have the results of the ties between the likes of Greenwindmill and Copenhagen Allstars and La Roja against BlueHazard next week.

In HeelsOverHead’s Worst To First – 2 Million+ Club, for teams with an overall rank below 2,000,000 in the first five game weeks, seven teams have climbed into the top 500,000 and 14 are in the top 1,000,000. Going into Gameweek 13 YOLO Toure was in pole position after climbing to the lofty heights of 187,428th.

Of those taking part in  TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing league, 36 managers got the chop ahead of Gameweek 13 after failing to reach the safety score of 52.

The FFS Paddy Power Cup Second Round also took place this weekend. Look out for the results and third round draw in the next 24 hours.

ARGGGHGHHH looking at the transfer page is making me cry. What would you guys do if you had 2.4 in the bank and had 8.2 to spend on a midfielder? My gut tells me to get Nasri but Sessegnon is calking my name as they have ok fixtures. HELP before i go crazy

I've decided to keep Sessegnon. I got him in primarily for the run of fixtures after City, so shall stick to the plan.

Might be a good week to fix defence.

Even if i don't sell Sess, will probably bench him in the midweek game. If he's not dropped by then, I'll play him on the weekend. Would you play him midweek anyway?

If he's benched, might shift for Brunt for that run of fixtures.

Just sold Sessegnon myself. Wouldn't touch him with a bargepole at the minute. I actually reckon he will be dropped absed on his last two performances.

Question even torresmagic dint have ans to do wid my 2 fts!

1)Boruc->Marshall or Krul(if marshall then could get cabaye after manutd match by downgrading Williams)
2)Oscar->>Wally/Gerrard(already have hazard so not wanna risk 2 chel mids with their hectic schedule)
the wally thing i kinda wanna go with but then their schedule is screwed n top that he is not even started a single match and wenger has many options in midfield whereas gerrard seems each match 90 mins

gerrard for me in fact i just sell oscar for him..nailed on starter with good fixture. will not consider walcott until his tough fixtures are gone and he is starting. n i sell boruc for speroni..good fixtures ahead. no point going krul imo as they dun seem to be keeping cs even with 2 home games for the past 2. might as well save the 0.5 and spend elsewhere

Who, if anyone, would you sell to get Lukaku in GW16, Rooney, Suarez or Aguero?

The players respective fixtures up to the end of the Jan WC window are as follows...

Lukaku - FUL swa SUN SOT sto NOR wba liv

Rooney - avl WHM hul nor TOT SWA che CAR

Suarez - tot CAR mci che HUL sto AVL EVE

Aguero - ARS ful LIV CPL swa new CAR tot

I certainly can't decide, I just hope the decision is made easier for us closer to the time...

By the looks of it, you may be right...

        A quick look tells me I can afford Barkley & Aguero > Silva/Hazard & Lukaku (2FTs) in GW16...

Provided that Silva is back fit as expected, otherwise I'd just get Hazard

This seems like the pitfall of having SAR - it must be that much harder to justify parting with any of them when another forward with nice fixtures arises. I'll dump Remy for Lukaku in a heartbeat when those fixtures kick in, but if I have Rooney by then, I think I'd look for Everton coverage elsewhere in the team.

It depends how long you've had each of them - both Kun and Suarez have risen over a million since I bought them, so I'd probably dump Rooney purely on ease of buying him back.

personally i may sell suarez due to the fixtures..but having earned a profit on him and aguero kind of make me not willing to sell as i have to spend quite abit more to buy back. for me rooney is a keep definitely. may end up keeping all 3 though lukaku is tempting

Wow, I've just seen Palace's and Cardiff's fixture rotation:

    WHM
    CAR
    WBA
    NEW
    SOT
    SUN
    NOR
    WHM
    STO
    HUL
    NOR
    WBA
    AVL
    HUL
    swa
    FUL/SOT
    sun

All for £8.1m!!! Granted, there's not guarantee of a CS in any of those fixtures, but I can see Cardiff being hard to break down at home and Pulis tightening up Palace.

    Oscar-Ramsey-Gerrard-Whittingham (Amalfitano)

              1or 4 for me.

Howard is still good value even with the two tough away games and De Gea after Everton will have a tasty run of fixtures.

Those are the choices I'm considering anyway.

            Please give me an opinion:

            Should I build towards:

            1] Hazard - Oscar - Giroud

            or

            2] Nasri - Navas - Rooney

my 3 other midfielders are Ramsey - Ozil - Brady

my 2 other Forwards are Suarez - Aguero

has anyone considered Aguero to Rooney? Rooney is undroppable at United but I could see Kun being rotated..plus they have tough home fixtures and tricky away fixtures in the next month (and their away form has been terrible)..

I sold Rooney for Lukaku rather than Aguero. didn't look past Swansea and feel it was a huge mistake (even if Aguero had scored vs Swansea)

            Ok lads,
Lets all brainstorm on the perfect squad to play this month over all the fixture congestion.

            I would go with

            Howard/Scezny

            Mert Terry Coleman Evra Vlar

            Walcott Ramsey Gerrard Nasri Oscar

            Suarez Aguero Rooney

Well Oscar will start 95% of the matches.Wait and see.
Wally will start this week.He may even play as a striker to give Giroud some rest.

yeah that's what I'm thinking too. when I wanted GJ I was going to Migs -> Marshall and Rat -> GJ but I didn't like the look of Liverpool's defense so I got Mert instead. I think Howard will be in with a shot of a cleanie every game all the way until the Merseyside derby

This week I want to sell Barkley & buy Livermore. This will allow me to sell Remy & buy Rooney in gw15. However if I wait too long Rooney's price rises could mean I wouldn't be able to afford Rooney next week as I only would have 0.2. Also Remy plays Swansea in gw14 & he could do very well & in gw15 New & MU play so it makes more sense to wait until gw15 to buy Rooney.

Question - do I take a -4 hit this week?

            Opinions appreciated.
