The Sun “Road to Rio” Game Now Open for Entry

The Sun launched its new World Cup warm-up game earlier today. “Road to Rio” is free to play for all registered Dream Team managers, with a £15,000 prize pot on offer. If you don’t have a team registered for the main 2013-14 Dream Team Game, you can still qualify by purchasing the Game Premium-In-Play packages prior to the closing date on Saturday March 15.

Running alongside the normal Dream Team offering, this game uses all the same rules aside from the player list, which is custom built to include only those players in contention for the World Cup, complete with new player prices.

If, like me, you’ve suffered a long string of ill-timed injuries this season, Road to Rio offers a much-needed opportunity to start from scratch and bid for some belated Dream Team glory, with a £10,000 winner’s prize on offer.

Having backed the likes of Theo Walcott, Sergio Aguero and Philippe Coutinho in my starting squad, not to mention the stalling Robin van Persie, my campaign suffered a false start and never really recovered. Typically, even when granted a chance to tinker in the Transfer Windows, I’ve managed to target the next major injury with uncanny accuracy. I’ve taken it on the chin but it’s further proof that a run of cruel setbacks can scupper your Dream Team ambitions, making multiple lineups almost a necessity if you want to avoid riding your luck.

Road to Rio arrives to provide the perfect antidote, reviving our end of season interest. With a new player list, there’s fresh incentive to assess the data and search out some undervalued gems and, with one team per entry, there’s an even playing field competing for prizes.

You can click here to register your new team and get started. Below, we’ve compiled an FAQ on the game and how it works.

In the next week we’ll bring you our Road to Rio starting XI to provide you some tips on compiling your Samba-themed teamsheet.

What’s Road to Rio?
It’s the Sun Dream Team’s World Cup warm-up tournament, featuring a brand new player list, with new values. It runs according to the regular Dream Team rules, with scoring starting on the weekend of March 15 until the end of the season.

What’s in it for me?
There’s a prize pool of £15,000 on offer, with £10,000 going to the winner and the rest of the cash split amongst the five teams that follow.

1st £10,000
2nd £2,500
3rd £1,000
4th £750
5th £500
6th £250

How do I get involved?
If you’re already registered for Dream Team then you’ll be given your free Road to Rio entry. Entries are limited to one team per person. Click here for details.

If you’re yet to register for Dream Team and are looking for a Premium-In-Play package, simply click here to get involved. You will then be eligible for the Road to Rio.

All entries must be in by the first kick-off on March 15 to be included.

How does my team score points?
The rules for Road to Rio are identical to the main Dream Team game so points are earned from Premier League matches, along with FA Cup, Champions League and the Europa League. For a full guide to the Dream Team rules, click here for our guide.

Can I enter more than one team?
Not for Road to Rio. Entry is limited to one team per person so you’ll need to do what you can to avoid the injury-prone, red card magnets and those who often suffer from rotation.

Can I make transfers?
Nope, this is a fire and forget game. Your initial starting XI will take you through from now until the end of the season.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'm currently planning on using my WC for GW 31, how does this sound for a squad for it, any changes or improvement much welcomed!
    Mannone K. Davis

    Chester Olsson Chambers Collins Distin

    Yaya Nolan Johnson Hazard Livermore

    Suarez Aguero Sturridge

Gives me potentially 11 players who play twice (depending on if I choose to bench Hazard over Livermore).

Sounds like a plan! What about AJ to Ki AND Nolan to Sterling? And then just beef my defence up a lot more? Or is that too risky you reckon?

Clueless as to what to do for the double. Currently have:

Adrian/Mannone, Evans, Kosc, Sterling, Mata, Suarez, RVP (i.e. 7 DGWers) but in reality I want to get rid of Kosc, Mata and RVP. Is that worth hits though?

    Looking at:

    Kosc > Baines
    Lallana > Nolan
    Mata > Yaya
    RVP > Aguero
    Ade > Sturridge

That would cost me 8 points over 30 and 31, probably 4 in each. Silly or not?

If I keep Mata and do Lallana > Yaya, I can only afford a 4.2 in place of Kosc (e.g. Chester). This was actually my plan before we had the Ars + Eve DGWs added to it.

Think I'm gonna stop thinking about it, save FT this weekend and wait til I see what happens in FA Cup games. Planning seems pointless before then, especially if saving this GW.

    DGW31 plan coming together beautifully,

    Sczc

    Baines Coleman Chester Kos

    Yaya Hazard Mata Sterling

    Suarez (C) Sturridge

RMT reckons a score of 99!

10 DGWs, no hits, I'd love Aguero + Gerrard it would involve too many hits/ fewer DGWs/ getting rid of players I don't wanna get rid of (Hazard)

I don't necessarily disagree with going Aguero-less due to (mun, ars, SOT, liv) but I think it's madness to go into DGW 31 with only 2 strikers, the most valuable position in the entire game. If you don't want to spend big on Aguero then get Lukaku or Remy in, it's a must for me, 100 times over having Mata or Coleman/Baines.

Aguero is very expensive and high risk.

Could well explode and get 20 odd points (I think around 10 is more likely)

Hardly worth crippling the team for especially considering he won't be captain

    Morning all

Could one of the fantasy superbrains cast their eye at my squad and find a useful transfer for this week? I've got 2 fts and after staring blankly at it for 30 minutes I've gone crosseyed. I don't want to sell a player that has a game this week and all the bench are future doublers. Am I missing something obvious 😕

    No goalie

    Terry Ivanovic Ward
    Hazard Noone Lallana Mata
    Adebayor

Bench: Adrian, Mannone, Bruce, Baines, Mirallas, Suarez, Sturridge. 2.8m in the bank.

    Cheers

He's the weakest link, I suppose, and although he does have a double it's not very good. I was thinking of Bruce > Chambers as it gives an extra body this week and Chambers is the same price. It's a nightmare! Cheers.

Either Bruce > Evra and play him this week (as well as having a DGWer) or I'd ship Mirallas as I don't really like him as an option for the double. Another option is Bruce > somebody cheap just for this GW like Chambers (like you've already said).

I'm not sure about Kevin at all either but I think I'll wait and see how he and Everton go on in the Cup before I decide what to do with him. United have good fixtures after the double but that would tie up too much money in defence. Cheers.

so there i was walking across the beach where i see a parmtree with my mates beavis and spike. When someone shouts we are running some exams would you like to help us test eagles? i said sorry no, im the champ at this and you would all be in the shadow of me. Just then someone comes in shouting wakey wakey, applebonkers i thought as in like flynn jumps in, and says that torres(is)magic he is almost as good as michael jordan, i am thinking you must be JKIng me.. then i remember i need to go to argos to buy myself a new breadbin. but then i might go to the supermarket to pick up some potatoes - i like potatoes, i wonder if demi and mark do too? this entire story was played out in whitman america in 2013.

Starting to think I may go into GW without Aguero. His fixtures aren't actually that easy, he has a crowded fixture schedule, is likely to get rested quite a bit due to being injury prone.

    But he is Aguero

Lukaku may be has a better opportunity at least for that week fixtures and is muchcheaper.

    But he is Aguero

    Hmm a difficult decsion

I am not so sure. He has one fixture which may be tough. Then for the following 3 weeks his fixtures are tough. I would like him very much but he is also expensive and injury prone and it would mean hits to fix it.

True. I worked ou yesterday if I lost Ivan (gulp) I could afford too swap him for Chester (bargain for DGW) and bring in Yaya for Eriksen and have 9 DGW players without a hit. Aguero would mean a hit and losing Hazard

I bought in Evra a couple of weeks ago for this week and I cannot see past him for potential.Coleman ha sbeen off the boils a bit recently but outside of the DGW he has better matched than Zab and you will not feel like he is tieing up your funds for so long allowing you to make gradual changes to your team to recover from messing it up for the DGW

So I've got 8 players for next week (using WC in GW31):

    (ADRIAN MANNONE)
    Shaw/ Yoshida / Azpi (SAGNA,COLLINS)
    Hazard (C) / Puncheon / Lallana/ Snodgrass (SILVA)
    Adebayor (SUAREZ STURRIDGE)

    A) Shall I use FT to do Mirallas/Collins -> ?
    B) 8 players is okay and keep FT.

    Morning all!

Those wondering when to WC - my tuppence worth....

Whilst you will most likely be able to get a reasonable number of DGWers for GW31 without wildcarding, I think the below 2 points suggest WCing in GW31 is still the best option:

    1) Quality of DGWers - having 10/11 of the best DGWers could be worth a lot more than 10/11 of average ones. Also, WCing rules out injuries/suspensions ruining plans between now and the GW31 deadline.

    2) Looking at the unscheduled DGWs and the week they are likely to be played (GW34 seems most likely), with the exception of MCY, EVE and SUN (players from which we will likely have at least 2 from each if WCing in GW31), the rest really don't look that appealing to me, except maybe CPL.

    WBA - (sun, TOT)
    AVL - (mcy, cpl)
    CPL - (eve, AVL)

    Conclusion

My current GW31 WC draft has 10/11 top drawer GW31 DGWers (8-9 of which are from MCY, EVE & SUN, i.e. have future DGWs also), with Dann & Puncheon on the bench. Anyone have a better strategy than this for when to play their WC?

Man United have a crap defense and even with the okish/bad fixtures I would steer away from them as they are so unreliable and inconsistent
