PlayON Returns with £10,000 Pot in Gameweek 1

We’re delighted to announce that PlayON is back for season 2014/2015 and is about to embark on a new exciting era. What’s more, the game starts the new season in style with a staggering £10,000 prize pot on offer, just for Gameweek 1.

PlayON is a weekly Fantasy game which challenges you to pick a starting XI from the Premier League squads, limited by a budget of £100 million. There is no restriction on the number of players you can sign from each club and you must build your squad in a 4-4-2 formation. Simple.

PlayON has proven popular amongst our community and this season the game is introducing an array of new concepts that opens it up to fresh strategies and opportunities to win.

The game is introducing Live In-Play games – so, even when the team-picking deadline has passed (two hours before the first kick-off each week), you can still get involved with In-Play one-on-one and multiplayer games as the matches are unfolding in real-time.

What interesting is that you’ll be able to use not just your teams to enter In-Play games, but you can now also search through all teams created by other users in the Gameweek and add any of their teams to your list of teams (only available after the team-picking deadline passes so all teams are locked at this point). So, if Wayne Rooney nets a hat-trick in the early kick-off on Saturday, you can search for all teams that include Rooney in the lineup and use any of them to enter In-Play games, with you getting the benefit of any points the team has already accumulated.

The really exciting thing here is if people use your teams to enter In-Play games, you can earn a percentage of their winnings. So, even if you’re not intending to enter any games yourself, you can still create three teams each week and if other PlayON managers use them to enter games and win, you earn a percentage of the cash. You can also control what percentage of the winnings you want in order to allow people to use your teams and you can amend this percentage in real-time as the weekend unfolds.

It all kicks-off this Saturday, with that £10,000 pot on offer. You can only enter your own teams into the £10,000 game as entries for that game close on Saturday at 10.45, before the Live In-Play games start. Thereafter, the In-Play games, Using Other People’s Teams and Earning money from others using your teams begins. It is, as they say, “a whole new ball game”.

Look out for a more in-depth guide to key tactics and new modes of play on Thursday and for our Gameweek 1 PlayON Picks from midday on Friday. For now, though, head on over to PLAYON.CO to start selecting your teams.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      Bardsley, Shawcross, Wilson, Pieters.

Huth will return when full fit.

Bardsley and Cameron will rotate, as will Pieters and Muniesa.

Huth, when fit, at 5.0 is good value I reckon.

I've got Bego though, in the top 3 best keepers in the prem imo

I just realized something about points of the bench. While obviously it is better to have your points on the field, I don't think it is a “bad thing” when you end up with a lot of points on the bench.

In American Baseball, team that score a lot of runs also leave a lot of runners on base that do not score. People talk about leaving runners on base as being bad, which it is, but in practice you can't possibly not leave runners on base. When you see a team with a lot of runners left on base, most likely you are seeing a team with a good offense. Good offenses score a lot of runs and in order to do that they get a lot of people on base, so they strand a lot of people. It is a side effect. I am thinking that over the course of a season, having points on the bench goes with scoring points on the field. It means that you have more players playing and few injuries for one thing. When my teams have ended up struggling with injuries and cards I get few points on the bench because I have non playing players on the bench, which is not a good thing. When I have a full team of productive players I have real life starters on the bench, scoring points and ready to fill in if needed. And it means I am picking (in theory) the best players to start, rather than picking whoever isn't hurt no matter what their form and fixtures.

In other words, regularly leaving points on the bench is a sign that a team is scoring points and is healthy. I would much rather have a guy on my bench who's points are going to waste than a guy who cost the same but gets 1 or 2 a week. Obviously you want your money on the field, and I am not suggesting people try to leave points on the bench. And some people will be unlucky over a season and bench player the week they get a big haul. But generally, if you are doing your best to get the points where they count and are still leaving points on the bench, I think it means you just have a good team.

(Note the opinions expressed above are those of a complete Eejit who needs help tying his socks and should not be taken seriously by anyone.)

          9 assists.

Compared to Taarabt's 19 goals and 16 assists in 3 less games.

Obviously different players can and cant make the jump of Championship to PL, but bearing in mind Zaha has shown no such ability when he has been given a chance, I think it's a gamble too far.

Not sure what you're trying to say. Not being good enough for Liverpool doesn't mean not good enough for Palace. They could just be frustrated with him being on the injury table so often. He may want a fresh start, realising he wont break into the Liverpool side with their new signings e.t.c.

Both Mariappa and Kelly are 4.5M. If the move goes through, at least one, if not both, should start.

I'm now tempted to get Chamber GW1 and switch him to whichever looks a starter after a couple of weeks.

It saves a transfer if you get the wrong one, and hopefully bags you a CS and a profit.

Repost as lost on last page (if anyones interested)

Why Costa is a BIG risk (coming from someone who is trying to convince himself he is anyway:P)

A few weeks back someone posted a comment showing how re pricing players based on their lowest position price helps find value players. So if you had a squad of lowest priced players:

    4.0 4.0
    4.0 4.0 4.0 4.0 4.0
    4.5 4.5 4.5 4.5 4.5
    4.5 4.5 4.5
(God forbid if someone has this) it would cost 64, so 64.0 is the minimum team price.

Now, if we reprice players based on this, so for example Krul costs 0.5 now and RVP costs 8.0 and we now have a 36.0 budget rather than 100.0.

To the Costa part....Costa costs 6.0M going by this and to put this into perspective that's one sixth of your budget (16%) for a player that is unproven in the prem, scored 10+ goals only once before, bit of a card magnet and playing for a team who only scored 2 or more goals in a game 15 times last year. If, in contrast, we brought 2 Chelsea defenders, lets say Luis and Terry, it would cost you 2.0 and 2.5, 4.5 total. By my reckoning 2 Chelsea defenders and 1.5M to spend elsewhere will outscore Costa.

Obviously Costa could prove me completely wrong and score a hattrick with Chelsea conceding in which case I will hide in a corner but that's my reason for no Costa gamble!!

Interesting way to look at it when considering minimum team price. I'm still going for Costa because of the team behind him (I have Hazard too). With Fabregas and co to feed the balls through to him I can see him scoring A LOT, especially with Drogba injured and Torres in my opinion will only be subbed on or played cup games etc. If he blanks after the first 3 game weeks he can easily be downgraded to someone like Giroud, Lukaku etc even if loosing up to 0.3 in value.

Gone for Begovic / Krul, have absolutely no faith in the WBA defence! I believe the only two GW's Begovic/Krul have troubles with is 16 and 18 I believe and leads right up to the january wildcard 🙂

Personally I think if you're going GK/Gilks you wanna make sure you get a premium keeper like DDG that you'll play regardless of fixtures or H/A rotation.

As a Palace fan, it's unclear at the moment whether or not Speroni will be starting, it's fair to say he'll definitely get game time but I can see it being split between Speroni and Hennessy in order to ease Hennessy into 1st choice keeper. at 5.0m I think Ward is the safest and best option into the Palace defence at the moment.

    Any solution?

As a Palace fan, 4.5m if he can nail down a spot over Mariappa, will be a steal! If it happens though I can certainly see Kelly getting the nod over Mariappa. Ward would possibly move over to LB to accommodate if we don't get one in.
