Scout Notes – Gameweek 2 – Monday

Stevan Jovetic bags a brace as City ease past Liverpool 3-1. Sergio Aguero emerges from the bench to score once again, with a Pablo Zabaleta own goal denying the hosts a second clean sheet of the season.

Jovetic at the Double
The City striker proved a deadly differential in last night’s encounter with Liverpool by bagging a brace in the 3-1 win. Sold by over 24,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers last week, Jovetic sat in less than 5% of Fantasy teams as the Reds rolled up to the Etihad but, handed a start alongside Edin Dzeko once again, he rediscovered the form that saw him net five times in pre-season and delivered a 13-point return for his owners.

Now down to 7.9 in FPL, Jovetic seems in the driving seat to retain a starting berth at home to Stoke next weekend and arguably has the platform to edge ahead of Dzeko in the pecking order. The latter was forced off with a leg problem midway through the second period, though Manuel Pellegrini was optimistic of his chances after the match:

“Edin had a kick that gave him some trouble with his leg but I don’t think it is anything important. We will see tomorrow but I think he will be okay.”

Quick-Fire Aguero Nets Again
Once again, the Argentine demonstrated that he needs little time to make an impact for City. Having netted just seven minutes into his substitute appearance at Newcastle last week, Aguero scored 23 seconds after climbing off the bench to breach the Liverpool backline and bring him onto Fantasy radars ahead of the home clash against Stoke. Granted, Manuel Pellegrini’s team sheets underline he’s clearly determined to protect Aguero as he returns to match sharpness, but if Dzeko fails to recover, the little Argentine could be let loose against the Potters.

Kolarov the fall-guy
Despite putting in a strong attacking display in the clean sheet at Newcastle, it was Aleks Kolarov who was sacrificed for Pablo Zabaleta’s return to the starting XI. Gael Clichy switched to his preferred left-back role, leaving Kolarov on the bench as an unused sub. With Bacary Sagna also now an option for Pellegrini, the full-back situation is looking complex and difficult to read. Secure investment in the City back four looks limited to Joe Hart and Vincent Kompany once again, then.

Reds Unconvincing in Etihad Loss
A late own goal by Pablo Zabaleta was all the Reds had to show for last night’s display. Coming off the back of a narrow home win over Southampton, there are signs that Liverpool may take some time to adjust to life without Luis Suarez. The late introduction of Rickie Lambert suggests the former Southampton man will be no more than Brendan Rodgers’ “Plan B” in the latter part of matches, though Raheem Sterling owners will be a little concerned that the youngster’s minutes were curtailed to allow Lambert pitch time.

In defence, Rodgers has concerns over full-backs Glen Johnson and Albert Moreno who picked up injuries. The former was forced out of the action due to a thigh problem, whilst the Spaniard picked up a sprained ankle on his debut. With a trip to Spurs up next, the Reds defence looks unlikely to chalk up their first shut-out of the season in light of last night’s display, though the schedule does improve significantly from Gameweek 4 onwards.

Looks nice to me. Personally think Rooney and Sturridge may struggle now RVP and Balo are around but probably not worth doing anything about yet.

Just don't trust him or United - they don't look good. Think there are better options for the next few weeks - Adebayor, Jovetic, Costa even Balo.

I am biased towards Aston Villa and won't consider any of their players other than Benteke so I'd recommend Naylor over Hutton. But they do seem to be a bit more organized [even though still quite blunt up top] so you choosing him does make sense.

      Good luck.

It looks unbalanced, I wouldn't go with both Aguero and RVP - it leaves a week 7th attacker. I'd just go with Aguero myself. How much does that side come to? It looks quite cheap (probably just the combination of RVP and Aguero).

Di Maria was the Dynamite of Losing Possession, to be honest.

My favourite joke was when people gave him credit for "assist" to Higuain against Belgium. In match in which I can't remember him one single time finding a team mate in the final third, one of his absolutely awful passes was kicked to Higuain by the unluckiest defender. he wasn't even looking for Higuain, ffs, he sent the pass to the opposite direction!

Agree with LMB, he's on the sidelines waiting for either rotation or injuries, not worth 6.0m.

When checking a rotation spreadsheet a while ago I saw their was a link to a fixture grid which had Europe on it etc. Does anybody have a link or have something similar?

Off by memory not many but there were a few punts, think you're safely within the top 3 tho!

After analysing the first 2 GW's, I think I have solved my attack 3:

Naismith - Chamakh - Vaz Te

    What do you think?

    1. Obi Wan Elokobi
      • 12 Years

Vaz te to Berahino and you're good to go

I don't think Berahino can keep up his form, though. Vaz Te is due to score, and 1.1 cheaper. And has a home fixture next.

But yeah, maybe Naismith to Berahino. Eto'o may be threatening his minutes and Everton has some tough fixtures coming.

All three are guaranteed starters, though, and are doing pretty well atm. 😉

Of course, have to search for captain elsewhere, but with the midfield it would give me, that should not be a problem.

Pick one please 😀 Season long game

    A) Ramsey + Lukaku

    B) Eriksen + Aguero

    Hi All,

What are everyone's thoughts on De Jong as a punt for next GW? Will he get 75mins? Have Mata and Eriksen, thinking will gamble on swapping for Mata as already have Rooney and will have 2 FT for the following week to sort out any issues.

I luv De Jong.. but i'm scared of the 59min nighmare.. 🙂 I'd wait for him to be fully fit to get him

I like that De Jong punt for other parts except for getting De Jong who I don't think is worth it.

He's trying his hardest to go from one of BR's favourites to the guy he can't keep picking anymore

I still think he'll start, but his time is coming for some bench warming if he doesn't sort himself out

He played well in pre-season, I understand.
Was also pretty good during the last half of last season, when Pool strung a lot of wins together.

    Morning everyone.

Struggling on what to do next week, any advice appreciated:

    McGregor -- (Heaton)
    Jones -- Caulker -- Naylor -- (Kelly) -- (Bardsley)
    Mata -- Ramsey -- Eriksen -- Fabregas -- (Marney)
    Rooney -- Costa -- Bojan

Obviously Bojan is the weak link. Was thinking a simple Bojan to Naismith.

I quite like my midfield, but guess I could downgrade Mata/Eriksen to afford a better striker. But what midfield/striker combo?

    2 FT and 0 ITB...

But if eto'o cones Naismith not a good pick

Mata and Bojan to Siggy n Jovetic

      Simple

Need a decent mid for 6.4 to replace Young - best I can think of is Downing or Larsson.

    got Siggy.

    Any suggestions kind scouters?

There really your only options; I'd pick Larsson of those 2 as his fixtures look good, but it's a bit jerky!

Young surely the one to be dropped with Di Maria coming in? Plus his price is dropping.

I've seen Hull being closely linked to Dawson. I assume that this will remove any remaining appeal of Bruce, but anyone have an idea of what it'll mean for Davies/Chester ?

Thoughts on the team...2 FT's awaiting! Would take 1 hit if you guys have any crazy restructuring thoughts! Would love to rid myself of Bojan...

    GW 3:

    McGregor (Gilks)
Cahill / Coloccini / van Aanholt (Dier) (Ward)
Hazard / Ramsey / Mata / Siggy (Marney)
    Rooney / Bojan Costa

After a goodish start the only pressing issues I have are in defense:

    Terry, Jones, VanA, Chambers, Hutton

What to do with this lot? I need to shift Chambers at some point but I'm in no great hurry. Jones is the one I'm umming & ahhing about... keep for a bit or drop & if so who for?

I'd drop him like a hot potato. Don't know who for though. I'd look at Sunderland and Villa fixtures and work from there. Debuchy is a good bet though.

I have sunderland & villa defenders & don't want to double up, particularly villa with their upcoming fixtures

debuchy not keen on either, i'd rather drop jones to a 4/4.5m defender if i can but the only ones jumping out at me are risky ones like dummet & yoshida

I'm keeping Jones for the next 3 games. If he (Utd) are still proving to be a waste of space then he's a goner.

Chambers is a much more pressing transfer......... I sold him this week for Clyne
