Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 3 – Sunday

Raheem Sterling is amongst the goals as Liverpool hammer Spurs at the Lane. Andreas Weimann earns a goal and assist as Villa get the better of Hull, while Nikica Jelavic and Leonardo Ulloa grab their second strikes of the season to strengthen our budget forward options. Alexis Sanchez nets for the second match in succession as Arsenal stutter to a draw on the road at Leicester.

Sterling Steers Reds to Victory
The Liverpool youngster bagged his second goal in three appearances as the Reds swept aside Tottenham at the Lane. Fielded behind front two Daniel Sturridge and Mario Balotelli, Sterling – despite failing to pick up bonus in yesterday’s win – has now outscored Sturridge by 22 points to 10 in the opening trio of fixtures and continues to look a real bargain at 8.6 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL). Owned by over 38% of Fantasy managers prior to yesterday’s match, he looks poised for further investment as the Reds brace themselves for a superb run of upcoming fixtures. Elsewhere in the Liverpool midfield, Steven Gerrard’s spot-kick duties helped the skipper gets his goal account off the mark.

Moreno on the Radar
The new boy atoned for an error against City on Monday with a superb showing against Mauricio Pochettino’s team. With Brendan Rodgers opting for a midfield diamond, the Liverpool full-backs were tasked with supplying the width from deep and Moreno’s raiding runs were a real feature of the Merseysiders’ forward forays. At 5.5 in FPL, he’s owned by just 0.2% of managers ahead of four home fixtures (AVL, EVE, WBA, HUL) and trips to West Ham and QPR in the next six.

Eriksen Hauled Off as Tottenham Toil
The Dane lasted just 58 minutes of yesterday’s encounter before making way for Andros Townsend. Overshadowed by Nacer Chadli and Erik Lamela in last week’s win over QPR, Eriksen now approaches the international break with just seven points to his name – given that Mauricio Pochettino afforded Chadli and Lamela the full 90 minutes, the Dane’s owners may well decide enough is enough. With just one shot on target over the full 90 minutes yesterday, the hosts are clearly a work in progress under the Argentine.

Villa Front Two Pick up the Points
After serving up back-to-back clean sheets in the first two Gameweeks, most of the Fantasy interest surrounded Villa’s defence for the visit of Hull. Both Andreas Weimann and Gabby Agbonlahor picked up a goal apiece in the 2-1 win over the Tigers, with the young Austrian also picking up an assist and maximum bonus points. Having also scored in Gameweek 1, Weimann is now up to third in the FPL forward standing on 22 points, but with showdowns against all of last term’s top five in the next five Gameweeks, few will be looking to invest in Villa right now.

Jelavic Form Continues
It’s two goals in the last couple of Gameweeks for the Hull frontman after he fired the consolation at Villa Park. Jelavic grabbed the opener against Stoke at the KC last weekend and is starting to suggest he could be another budget frontman worth our consideration – with West Ham, Newcastle and Palace in the next four, the short-term schedule is in his favour.

Sanchez Strikes Again
Having struck the midweek winner against Besiktas, the Chilean was in the goals once again for the Gunners. Handed a role on the left with Yaya Sanogo leading the line, Sanchez is clearly a class act capable of serving up the points, though at 10.4 to Aaron Ramsey’s 9.1, it’s difficult to currently justify the switch until the summer signing reaches full match sharpness. With City, Spurs and Chelsea in the next four, though, few will be looking to invest further in the Gunners until the schedule eases in Gameweek 8.

Ulloa’s Home Comforts
Leicester’s summer signing netted for the second match in succession at the King Power Stadium as Nigel Pearson’s side picked up an invaluable point against the Gunners. Ulloa also struck in the Gameweek 1 home draw with Everton, and while strike partner David Nugent continues to struggle, the Argentine has wasted no time in settling in the top-flight. At 5.5, Ulloa is another budget striker making a mockery of his price tag and has shown he’s more than capable of delivering against some of the most resilient backlines around. It’s also worth noting that Jeffrey Schlupp – a 4.5-priced defender – started on the left wing and provided the assist for Ulloa’s header.

    Amigos,

I asked this question this morning during the DZ so only got one answer.

After an horrible GW (36 pts), I am considering whether I should WC or not. To beat the price rises, I already took a 8PH to bring in Costa, Kun and Siggy (better late than never, right?)
    WC:
    - I took a 8PH so that would bring back those points.
    - I could bring in a few players that might rise in value over the international break (Ivan naismith sterling dyer)
    - I did 3 early transfers and over the break, some injuries are bound to happen. Whether it's one of my players or from another team, there might be some opportunity.
    - If I need to take another hit (for example if Kun get injured), then I will certainly WC to avoid the 12PH, so better to do it now and play the market.

    NO WC:
    - Can use it later for a DGW or a big emergency.
    - Playing the market does not look that attractive this season with the chaotic price rises.

    Help 🙂

    My team at the moment:
    Bego (Gilks)
    Cahill Bertrand Kaboul Coloccini Wisdom
    Ramsey Fab Siggy Hendo Marney
    Kun Costa Ade

    Thanks !

WC. You've taken a hit already and Sod's law would have it that one of the players you bring in will get injured, or you will want to jump on a new signing. Which will mean more hits.

That's exactlt what I fear. Ok my team looks good, but if I don't WC now, I'm afraid I will be forced to WC in a week when Kun gets injured or when they release Falcao at a 8.0 price (ok that will never happen but a man can dream)

We update at least twice a week. I'm doing one at the moment actually which should go live later.

We also do one every Friday to take into account latest team news.

I suspect there will be at least another this week as well to take into account transfer movements today.

neither get balotelli ;)..... you have to go falcao looks well suited to the premier league, unless he is ridiculously priced of course.

Just a question for you I am also in a draft league how do you run a waiver wire?

the way transfers work in our league is that each person submits a transfer each week and if there is a clash the person who is offering up the highest valued player gets priority

Isn't the point of this transfer that Falcao will be cover for RVP once he has knee surgery?

This was my thinking for once everyone is fit!

Irrelevant though - personnel will have changed again when RVP comes back after the January window. Just can't believe they haven't broken the bank for Vidal. Sign him and they'd win the league this year.

Vidal would be vital, lets just hope LVG can work his magic!

For non-wildcarders, how well have your transfers worked?

I took out Young for JWP for GW2, and took out Debuchy for Clyne for GW3. Both have been good moves so far.

      10pts --> 6pts
      1pt --> 2pts

      Pretty abysmal transfers do far!

I'm sure the question has already been asked but can't find it.

How much do we think Falcao will come in at? 10.5 like Costa?

      I reckon 11.5 or possibly 11

    Falcao-Rooney-RvP up front most likely?

Or Rooney or Mata moving deeper?

I think mata will be benched. Mata -> Sterling for me

Falcao and Di Maria partnership at Man U! This is what your WC is made for! You should always wait until Transfer deadline day and international injuries occurring! Not just because of one Costas 'injury'

I'm happy to take an eight point hit during a two week break like this, but more would probably be a WC.

Two poor GW's and this is the current team:

    Bego, Krul
    Ivan, Clyne, Caulker, Chester, Hutton
    Ramsey, Fab, Siggy, Larsson, Wanyama
    Rooney, Sturridge, Dzeko

    Good enough?

I've had a few decent weeks (got super lucky with Chambers this week) but now think I need to tinker a bit. Current squad is:

    Krul (Mannone)
    Shawcross, Jones, Clyne (Chambers, Wisdom)
    Fab, Mata, Siggy, Ramsey (Albrighton)
    Rooney, Costa, Jovetic

I FT and nothing in the bank

There's a few moves I want to do, Mata -> Sterling being one, and sorting out Chambers and the front line. Any ideas?
