Monitor – Morgan Schneiderlin

Arsenal and Tottenham were both rebuffed in their attempts to sign Southampton’s World Cup star Morgan Schneiderlin this summer and hanging on to the French midfielder has proven crucial to the Saints’ ascent under new boss Ronald Koeman.

The 10.7% of Fantasy Premier League managers who have backed Schneiderlin have seen a phenomenal return from the central midfielder, who has chalked up 29 points in his last three appearances, courtesy of a trio of goals and four bonus points.

In our next members’ article of the week, we turn to the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) tables in order to assess Schneiderlin’s progress from the previous campaign under Mauricio Pochettino.

For the unfamiliar, these KPI tables are designed to use a series of key stats to allow our members to track form or changes in player performance. By tracking the frequency of certain key statistics and comparing them over two separate periods of time, we can ascertain whether a player’s form has improved or declined. As mentioned in last summer’s introductory article, we’ve rolled out a preview movie which shows just how to get the best out of the KPI tables.

By comparing this season to last, we should be able to get an indication as to how he will be utilised in Koeman’s new-look side and determine whether his high points return so far could be sustainable. By also referencing the Comparison Tool and season totals, we get a better indication as to how he fared:

Which defense would you rather double up with:

    A) Liverpool: Moreno & Lovren
    B) Southampton: Bertrand & Clyne

Trying to find a replacement for Caulker as of GW6, but struggling in that 5.0-6.0 price range since the best options double up with my current options (Bego-Clyne-Lovren-Chambers-Wisdom). Not sure United is the place to go either, even though Evans could be a short-term stop-gap.

        Double-up on these:
        A) Liverpool: Moreno/Manquillo & Lovren
        B) Southampton: Bertrand & Clyne
        C) Stoke: Begovic & Shawcross/Bardsley

        Or pick one of these:
        1) Evans
        2) Rafael
        3) Curtis Davies
        4) N Taylor
        5) Janmaat
        6) Shaw
        7) Filipe Luis
        8) Dier
        9) Jagielka/Stones

not convinced by pva (as i described earlier in another post)

looking for a more regular defender than duff or moore as i have up to 5.9 or 6.0 to spend. I want someone who can play every game, or at the very rotate well with chambers in the next 3.

Its not so much an urgent issue though, but I need someone good for GW7 as everyone apart from Lovren in my defense has a bad fixture that week.

I suppose those 3 do make sense as they all have good fixtures gw6-7 when i'd need them. not many players with good fixtures during that stretch

Naylor, Moore, Duff and PvA all have good fixtures - although personally I'd go for Hutton/Vlaar - City at home wont be that bad if they continue this form, and they look really good defensively...

you never know when villa will have an off day though. City and Chelsea in the weeks i need a defender is the worst possible too. its bold, but not worth the risk.

if it was for guzan maybe i'd do it for the save points, but theres no upside for a defender who's gonna concede at least 1 (and possibly 5)

    Hi All,

Any help with my team would be appreciated: 0.3 ITB, 1 FT

    De Gea / (Gilks)
    Clyne / Pieters * / O'Shea / (Debuchy **) / (Caulker)
    Fabregas / Ramsey / Sterling / Siggy / (Schneiderlin)
    Naismith / Costa / Rooney

Debuchy obviously out a long time, and Pieters 75% chance of playing. Is there any glaring changes that I should make, or should I save the FT?

    couple of questions:

    1) Azpi least secure in Chelsea defence?
    2) Hazard continues to sparkle with little end-product (I know he got an assist) - Fabregas a better option now?
    3) Why was Kun benched?

    cheers in advance 🙂

      1) yes. most rotatable given that nobody gives the attacking returns ivan does for them.
      2) Fab is the best option imo. If you don't have him already though maybe the smart money is on hazard however. Fab will always get points from set pieces even when he's off form though.
      3) He's less effective up top by himself. Not much point in him running himself into the ground for 90 minutes when a target man was what they needed today

    4. Walsh

      1) yes
      2) baffles me, hazard should come good but when? can't deny fabs returns at this point
      3) city went into bayern looking for a point and played very defensively. pelle just resting him as he rightly saw the weekend prem game against chelsea as more important. were unlikely to get anything at bayern anyway and they should easily finish second in that group anyway.

i have the same problem. benching tadic probably. though its different for you since chadli has a great fixture. i'd probably flip a coin to be honest. Villa have been great defensively but city-chelsea could be another 1-0 game.

Probably 51/49 in favour of benching fabregas though judging by how compact city were toinght against bayern.

            Current team is:

            Dea Gea / Gilks
            Debuchy / Pieters / Clyne / O'Shea / Caulker
            Fabregas / Schneiderlin / Sterling / Ramsey / Siggy
            Costa / Rooney / Naismith

            WC team looks like:

            Foster / McCarthy
            Clyne / N.Taylor / PVA / Shawcross / Cissokho
            Fabregas / Sterling / Ramsey / Siggy / Quinn
            Falcao / Costa / Naismith

Can upgrade Naismith to Pelle with 0.0 left in the bank, thinking Aguero should come in after this game week, so if I leave Naismith this week, I can downgrade Falcao for Aguero. However, then I have no United coverage..

            Thoughts?

hmm its a real tough one - maybe you are better of wildcarding?

you can get a forward line of rooney costa and aguero and keep sterling fabregas sigurdsson and ramsey if you go for a cheap defence?

                    Interesting concept.

Costa / Rooney / Aguero front line does sound awesome, but would severely decimate the defence.

Perhaps to get that forward line, have to downgrade a m9.0 mid to a 7 or so..

He may or may not. Thinking is Green is on borrowed time and McCarthy was bought with an eye towards the future. Green also had a shocker last weekend against United.

McCarthy should start over Green imo. (see below)

If you're going with McCarthy, don't go with Schumacher(:p). Both keepers from promoted sides on a WC is dodgy. Go with McCarthy and Mannone/Krul. Yes, I know Newcastle are crap but they will probably have a new manager and try to play better.

            1. Piggs Boson
              • 12 Years

That strikes me as a psychological preference. I could get Mannone instead though. Rotation with McCarthy is okay. My main priority is getting keepers who can get save points. That's what makes keepers the best value players in the game.

Yes and no. That was the only reason I could think of at the time or type, but Newcastle should be able to get a few more clean sheets at home when the lower half teams visit. Imo, they are as good/bad as Hull.

Thanks 🙂 Schmeichel is apparently going to be fit, and I'd be surprised if McCarthy didn't start. He was superb last season and I got the impression he only came because Redknapp promised him football. He said he turned down City, Pool and Swansea after having a talk with 'arry.

I agree Dexter went downhill after season 5 but I think it had some of the best single seasons I've ever seen in a show.

That's why I rate it so highly. Hated the end, truly awful. Heard Showtime channel didn't let the producers kill Dexter off, or it would have been such a better ending.

Cannot just wash away the last couple seasons though which were nearly unwatchable in rating the show in its entirety. First few were great, mind, and I agree with your first point, but as a show it isn't even top ten for me.

Thinking for all the Hazard owners here; after watching Chelsea vs Schalke this morning, if Drogba started the first four games of the season Hazard would have been on the end of the goal scoring moves not the start. With someone as prolific at scoring like Costa, Hazard will be a creating machine but loses a lot of his goal scoring ability. All in all, if Costa starts Hazard will average 4 PPG, if Drogba/Remy starts he will average 8 PPG imo.
