Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 5

Our Monday afternoon regular is rolled out once again, as we scour the Premier League treatment rooms to assess the players who picked up injuries over the weekend action.

Aston Villa
The Midlands outfit were hit hard by a virus prior to the weekend home defeat to Arsenal. Paul Lambert confirmed Darren Bent and Nathan Baker missed out altogether, whilst Ashley Westwood also failed to feature – he was initially named in the starting XI but was forced to drop out. Andi Weimann was also subbed off at the break after struggling to overcome the same problem.

Burnley
Clarets midfielder David Jones was subbed off after 86 minutes of the weekend goalless draw against Sunderland with “a minor thigh injury”.

Chelsea
Ramires was withdrawn on 63 minutes having suffered a knee injury. Early reports suggest that the Brazilian could face a term of absence with the midfielder undergoing scans early this week.

Liverpool
Brendan Rodgers has confirmed Philippe Coutinho missed the trip to West Ham due to a groin problem, while Jordan Henderson is being assessed after picking up a hip complaint.

Man United
Jonny Evans was withdrawn after just 30 minutes of United’s loss at Leicester with a leg problem and, post-match, Louis van Gaal admitted:

“I don’t know how bad Evans is. We have to wait for a scan tomorrow but he is on crutches.”

Newcastle
Cheick Tiote will be assessed after limping off towards the end of Saturday’s home draw with Hull.

QPR
The problems are building up in midfield for Harry Redknapp. Joey Barton and Jordon Mutch were passed fit for Saturday’s home clash with Stoke after heading into the match as doubts due to hamstring problems – both players were subsequently subbed off with a recurrence of the injuries, whilst Sandro missed out altogether due to a knee complaint.

Southampton
Both Maya Yoshida and James Ward-Prowse were forced off with ankle problems in the weekend win at Swansea. New boy Toby Alderweireld missed Liberty clash with a minor hamstring problem but is expected to be back next weekend.

Sunderland
Steven Fletcher and Ricardo Alvarez missed the Black Cats’ trip to Burnley due to a calf complaint and knock respectively, though the latter has since been passed fit for tomorrow’s Capital One clash with Stoke. Gus Poyet has also revealed that Emmanuel Giaccherini was forced off on his first start of the season and will be assessed:

“Giaccherini had plenty of energy, going between the lines and I think he was one of our best players. That was the idea of playing him; to create that little bit more. He was thereabouts, so it’s not bad from him. Unfortunately, he took a big knock which we need to check today.”

Swansea
Dwight Tiendalli missed the weekend home defeat to Southampton with a slight groin problem.

West Brom
Giorgos Samaras missed out through injury as the Baggies picked up a 1-0 win at Spurs yesterday.

West Ham
Midfielder Cheick Kouyate is set to undergo scans after picking up a groin problem against Liverpool on Saturday evening – the summer signing stayed on the field after Sam Allardyce had made all three substitutions.

What's a better trade for this week?

    A) Krul > Forster. (Already have Clyne)

    B) Rambo > ADM

Deffo B in my opinion. Ramsey is good this year but ADM is basically almost essential.

lol--- As a 2week Balo owner, I can tell you there's no middleground to owning him. Either sheer joy or frustration, I never experienced to former and felt it was time to terminate our association and bring in a certain wind-up merchant who seems to be having a goal fiesta over at Stamford Bridge.

Just logged in to see 3 players I was planning to buy this week went up in price overnight. I'm sure I checked about 9pm and a rise didn't look likely. Loads of last minute transfers or just the calculation on tfpl being wrong. Very frustrating

@Davies and the rest saying it was a deserved victory for Leicester yesterday, what do you say to this?

    1. Ball was out over the byline before the Ulloa goal.
    2. De Laet should've been off twice. Prattenburg let Leicester get away with murder, kicking our players all over the pitch.
    3. Rafael was fouled before the peno.
    4. Was never a peno. Blatant dive from Vardy.
    5. Blackett fouled in the lead up to the second peno.
    6. Was never a red.

while the first penalty was seriously questionable, my problem is going back to last season United have shown a lack of mental toughness when things don't go their way

they were still winning 3-2 after the penalty, but they checked out mentally because of some emotional entanglement in a poor referee call

that's the sort of thing you expect from puberty driven emotional wreck teenagers, not professionals

And that the ball was over the byline and that it was a clear foul on Rafael and that it was never a penalty and that is was a clear foul on Blackett.

I suppose so if you define character as fouling the opposition at every turn knowing there will be no consequences then yes they displayed great character.

The referee is simply an external factor that cannot be changed, you have to make do with what a numpty with a whistle says, that's football.

What could've changed was the reaction after the decisions, once 3-1 up it should be plain sailing and the game should've been closed out, but the pen decision got to the players, the fans got behind Leicester and they fully deserved the victory, end of.

You can cry on about referee's all you like, the way both sets of players react is what really influences the game and we simply didn't control the game and see it through.

New job is a little exhausting but i am adjusting.

Well currently 38K. Disappointed i could not captain Costa for his hatrick!

38K is pretty well positioned for a run up as the season goes on

change is a bit tiring, but is also good and invigorating (and a heck of a lot better than being bored 😉 )

Leaning towards A, but afraid to not have Pelle this week.

    A) Krul -> Forster
    B) Rooney -> Pelle
    C) Rooney/Wood -> Pelle/Welbeck -4 (Benching Henderson)

Don't get the Pelle obsession; he's only scored in 2 games this season and is still very much unproven in my view. Also the way results have been going I'm predicting a QPR win at the weekend.

plan to save next week but it's sort of irrelavant for my plans other than the idea of having 2 FTs post international

4.5 for a nailed on Arsenal defender with those fixtures (from GW8) what's not to like?
