The ScoutCast – Episode 137 – Precious

Every little point counts. With the mini-league gap between myself and co-host Granville widening by the week, my Mancunian friend can ill-afford to throw points aside in his bid to follow up last season’s victorious campaign.

In and around the usual ScoutCast regulars, Granville recalls the dilemma that saw him get away with benching Cesc Fabregas to the tune of just a single point. Will that prove costly?

We then join forces to run the rule over the accelerating Di Maria bandwagon, assess Rooney’s re-positioning and decide whether those steering away from Ramsey Street need to re-programme their sat navs.

Treasure this nonsense via this link or cling to these worldly goods via the handy player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Just sorted my scout picks. Just four the same as the community's this week. With just four points between us this week this looks a great chance for me to either pull away or slump into last place.

Got 1FT and 1.6m burning a hole in my pocket.

Could save it. Will probably use it.

    1) Larsson(SWA) -> 7.2m.

Possibly Hendo with a dodgy hip(EVE) or Chadli with a dodgy fixture (ars).

    2) Caulker -> 6.5m

    Any thoughts?

As last week...He won't do it but because it's becoming something of an emergency at the back

      DDG

      Rafa. Blind. Rojo Shaw

      Herrera. Rooney

That's how I would play it until I had some quality to put Rooney and Blind back in their real positions (January)...He's deluding himself that he can limp along with second rate CB's and CDM's who are always crocked.

Thats not actually a half bad defence is it? The reason I am so critical of United is because they have so many ordinary players (Evans, Jones, Smalling, Fletcher, Young, the list goes on and on and on) and people expect them to win games and trophies.

At least Rojo and Blind are actually at least half talented

        1. Dr Dream
          • 11 Years
          9 years, 8 months ago

Yep...I can see no other way of spreading quality right across the team than doing the above. The fact is that most teams in the prem wouldn't even want some of those players you listed...They really are ordinary...

They are far from top 4 material though surely? Reid and Tomkins are just as good in my opinion but West Ham don't have the expectation to finish top 4.

Well, I love those two. But I would prefer Jones and Smalling.

I would adore to have Young as well.

What do you see that sets them apart defensively Doosra ?...Bear in mind the noisy neighbours line up..

              Kompany Mangala
              Fernandinho Yaya

              Whilst United have

              Evans Smalling
              Blind

United's bench mark should be similar to the City defence and midfield cover...at the moment I'm not sure even Leicester would want those three...not the way they are set up anyway.

    Repost bottom of the page.

Will be making my transfer later. Annoyingly Forster went up but waited to see if I had any injuries. 1 free transfer and 2.6 in the bank

    Krul
    Clyne Ivanovic Wisdom
    Ramsey Fabregas Sterling Siggy
    Rooney Costa Naismith

    Elliott Caulker Marney Hutton

    A) Krul to Forster
    B) Ramsey to Di Maria
    C) Naismith to Ulloa/Pelle/Welbeck

Is using a free transfer on a keeper a waste? I want Forster for the long term and want to give Ramsey and Naismith at least one more wee. Thoughts?

    Guys,

I really want Downing in my W/C team, but looking at it, I will probs only play him for ' QPR ' fixture in GW7 (and drop Pellée to the bench). Should I just ignore and play Sterl, Siggy, Fab, ADM and my 3 strikers in all and just out Boyd (BUR) in as 5th midfielder? In short, do you think Downing will be a good option? I did read the stats article and it makes for favourable reading for the case to bring him in. Should I just save 1.1 million and do Boyd...?

    Any thoughts appreciated 🙂

      May aswell just go Boyd.

    2. Lucy.
      • 10 Years

I'd go for Boyd but I can see the temptation with Downing. However, I think it's really QPR's ineptness that is tempting me, more than Downing as a long-term pick. I bought Zaha in earlier in the season and realised that I'd only really bought him in because others had tricky fixtures while he had a decent one. It didn't work out and I tied money up in a 5th midfielder which I intended to bench most of the time.

      1. Big_Andy_GAWA
        • 12 Years
        9 years, 8 months ago

Yeah. 🙂 Almost brought Zaha in for what I think would have been the same time as that, as well. As you say, it is one fixture and he could easily not give me too good a return, anyway. Shall just go. Boyd and hope Downing is quiet in that particular fixture. Cheers 🙂

There has been quite a bit of discussion about the new pricing mechanism this year, and how this will increase or decrease incentives for early trades.

Some argue that the increased threshold for the second and third increases will make bandwagon players rise on Sunday (02:30 Sunday morning, i.e. the first change of the new GW), as their threshold is reset for the new GW, thus rewarding early transfers. Others argue that it gives us more time to ponder and that we might as well wait until Friday before making transfers. Leaving the discussion of whether TV is more or less important this season aside, I have sorted the 570 price changes so far this year and try to look for patterns.

Price rises happen most frequently on Mondays (17%) and Thursdays (17%), with Wednesdays (12%) and Fridays (10%) being the least active days. The rest of the weekdays fluctuate between 14% and 15%.

Price drops are most common on Sundays (20%) and Saturdays (18%), least common on Thursdays (9%) and around 13% and 14% the rest of the week.

All in all there is little evidence that the reset of rise thresholds at the beginning of the new week significantly affects the number of price rises, which should indicate that there is less need to jump on all bandwagons right away.

However, price drops are concentrated on the first and the last day of the GW, when transfer markets are active, so beware if you want to avoid those.

Quick question. In the comparison bit of the members area, there is a "successful corners" figure. Is this the number of completed passes from the corner? If so, does a completed pass taken as a short corner count towards this?

If you ignore the fact QPR got beaten 4-0 in consecutive away games, got no midfield as they're all injured, a defence that can't stop leaking goals, and a front line without a goal in open play all season I can't understand why everybody thinks the result tomorrow is a foregone conclusion.
